I am updating as even with a complaint to Health and Human Services this company only became worse. I requested my records, care plan and schedule. Was given different phone numbers to call although I put in an FOIA and RTK request. One is a Texas number while the other is a California number. I live in PA. One was a request to measure my leg, the other a discharge request and another a therapy session (after the discharge maybe). Really a confused bunch and honestly never felt any empathy or concern although I have a serious issue. I had other companies before and always had a care plan and schedule. With them you get nothing but phone calls while they try to muddle through their own mess. Or avoid things altogether. read more

Accent Care - Hospice was a big disappointment. First of all, when the "sales" representative for Accent Care-Hospice introduced herself, she said that their Hospice company would take care of EVERYTHING. They did not. Stomach tube had to be replaced after starting hospice. APPARENTLY, they had no protocol for immediate outside help which was needed to maintain hospice philosophy of 'Keep him comfortable." The very kind and diligent nurse assigned to us eventually was able to get appointment to take care of that. Because my husband was not able to get into a car, Hospice arranged for transportation, from approximately 100 miles away. Closer to us would have been 50 miles, which is where the doctor is. Hospice could/would have coordinated with local EMS, distance would have been 2 miles to our house. This was charged to Medicare. Due to their mistakes, I was not able to spend enough time with him, to hold his hand and talk with him, before he died. Instead, I was on the phone with hospice office, trying to figure out why they sent medicine I did not request, including meds that were on his allergy list. Took days to get the right medicine. Also, they limited incontinence supplies. Then, later on, oversent supplies, based on their 2-weeks at a time maximum. Did I have to pay for the supplies? No, except when I personally had to buy supplies to have enough. Actually, yes I did and so did you the taxpayers, because Accent Care-Hospice billed Medicare. Most nurses were wonderful and competent and caring. However, when one nurse was given questions, she deferred several back to me and non-medical caregivers. Our response was 'You are the professional. That is why we asked you'. Worst scenario was when one nurse came; we asked for her help in changing his briefs. She was rough when she started to turn him; he groaned. She rudely said "We have to be proactive." Then, when she started to turn him again, he groaned from the pain; she roughly said, " We HAVE to get this done!" Had I known she would continue in that manner, I would have told her to stop and the rest of would take care of it. Needless to say, when he died I called Hospice as instructed. They said they would send a nurse. I told them not to send ..., that I not want her here. They complied. What a horrible memory. read more

After 3 months they still had not done so. we had to get our Medicaid case manager in on this to try and hurry them along. They finally got things set up to pay our mothers caregiver but refused to pay her for the 3 months that their inefficiency caused. The administration was rude, did not return phone calls and did absolutely nothing to get the ball rolling for us. needless to say we left them and went with another company who has been absolutely amazing!! AccentCare in Northridge CA has staff that are the most compassion lacking uncaring individuals Ive ever had the displeasure of interacting with. I would not recommend them if they were dog sitters. Norvella, if thats how you spell his name, was assigned to come to our home as our mother was prescribed home health care. At The same time my family experienced another emergency situation that had to be handled as well. We were juggling a few things at once. All we needed was time to deal with both situations. We had to push our appts back a few days for the nurse to come to our home. Thats it. On the day, yesterday, that we chose for Norvell to come to our house. We chose a 2-3 o'clock window. When he called saying he was in route. My sister asked that he come closer to 3 oclock. He made a huge deal as if we asked him to walk to another country! My sister was in the process of cleaning our mother for his visit. She nor I wanted him waiting outside or in our home while our mother was being prepared for his visit. He was rude, robotic and condescending! His supervisor, Teresa made it NO BETTER. She never offered an apology nor did she extend understanding. As a matter of fact she did not hesitate to make sly empathetic remarks. Kristal, their liaison for AccentCare and UCLA medical center is no better, either. She lied to us telling us that they processed an order for our mother's air mattress which was untrue! I called the facility who furnished the medical equipment. They said they have NO recorded of an order placed by anyone for our mother. As I stated, I would not recommend this facility for any of your family's needs. They come across as bias, leaning to racist. Norvell, the home nurse, spoke to my sister in a condescending tone from the first day he called. His supervisor, Teresa mirrored the same if not a worse attitude. I wonder if we "looked" like them would they had of demonstrated compassion that they certainly lacked with our family? Many of these medical facilities need to be investigated for unfair treatment when it comes to non-white patients. It's a crime to discriminate against persons based on color. We had one emergency and they were going to contract out to someone else to come, but they were unavailable. We headed to ER and then when we were there someone showed up at house without calling they were on the way. It took 3 weeks after she got out of rehab to be seen the first time. The reviews on here are correct with being bad. We will not use Accentcare out of San Antonio again. Too bad I can't give zero stars. read more

WATCH YOUR BILL! If you choose to use AccentCare keep a log of the dates, time and persons name. They tried to charge me $510.00 for a caregiver on January 1,2023. I was with friends that day and never had anyone from the agency. They did reverse the charge, but it wasn't an easy process. I think there may have been more incorrect charges, but unfortunately I didn't keep a complete log. Also, if you need someone for 24 hours try to get them to send people in 8 hour shifts. Once you go into overtime it gets very expensive. Getting Candice on the phone or to return a call was next to impossible. It took more than 3 months to get a correct bill. I had one great caregiver named Grecia. The rest ranged from ok to horrible. Unfortunately, these people work for more than one agency, so you can get them from anywhere. My advice is find one you like and keep that person. Some of them need to be watched very closely. Lock up you valuables. read more

My mom is in Hospice and I was referred to this company from a list given yo us from her Hospice Social Worker. I called, got it all set up, papers signed last Thursday for the care for my 91 bed bound mother for 2 weeks on Monday, Wednesday and Friday for 3 hrs a day, because her usual girl is off for 2 weeks. Thought it all set then at 6 am this morning 2 hrs before they are supposed to be there, Maria calls and says the girl is not coming, and do I want her to call someone else? This is the first day, haven't even met the girl yet, does it matter who it is? Just someone professional. But no - didn't get a call back - had already planned on being at my mom's to help since it was the persons first day so I took care of her. Called Ludovia's number, left a message about this - told her to cancel our contract with them and if they charged her CC to refund it. Less that 5 minutes later someone called me but I was on the other line So called them back and they patched me through to Joe. I told him that this was totally F@#ked up and, if they charged her card, to refund it. He apologized but what does an apology do when they renege on their contract and left me and my mom without anyone to help us. When a family is stressed out and trying to cope, the last thing they need is BAD hospice care .. My sister needed continuous care at the very end which is a service of hospice.. however, her case manager did NOT even know the rules and told me if they come for 24 hours, and it's not her last 24 hours , than you're on your own .. I found out this was not true and we had them for a few days until the end ..our case manager was not knowledgable enough .. they had the WRONG diagnosis on the death certificate .. insulting that they did not even know what was wrong with the patient .. If it was possible to award minus stars to this purported healthcare organization, I would give a minus 5. My adult daughter had extensive surgery and was released from UCLA hospital after four days of hospitalization to recuperate at my home. The AccentCare nurse arrived on schedule the following day to check my daughter's status. The nurse appeared to be very competent and noted four items of concern, including an allergic reaction to pain medication, possible pus coming from a wound site and certain skin rashes and irritations. The skin rash was deep red, moist, bumpy and itchy - very angry appearing. The nurse took photos of the suspicious sites and advised that the photos and concerns would be transmitted to my daughter's doctor. The AccentCare employee advised that we would be called later that day and would be called again the following day regarding on my daughter's medical problems. Based on the nurse's representations, we did not immediately call her doctor as we otherwise would have. For the remainder of that day we did hear anything from my AccentCare or from my daughter's doctor. That afternoon we began calling AccentCare for response to the health issues presented but despite being advised by an operator that our messages would be forwarded to an AccentCare health care provider, we received no calls back. The following day we called AccentCare numerous times but never received any return calls. My daughter called her doctor directly (and sent our own photos of the problem conditions) and was advised that no information or questions about my daughter's medical condition or concerns had ever been transmitted by AccentCare to the doctor's office. Based upon my daughter's condition, her doctor prescribed a change in her medications and added medication to to treat the now extensive rashes. The following day a purported health care person from AccentCare came to my residence to see my daughter. This was 48 hours after the initial visit by an AccentCare employee and the first time we had any response from AccentCare in 48 hours. The AccentCare employee had no idea of my daughter's condition, medications, medical issues or even the nature of her surgery. When we asked if there was some reason that she did not have that information, she advised that she simply hadn't read the chart or patient file. The AccentCare employee had no information regarding any of the medical concerns noted at the first visit. She took my daughter's temperature and blood pressure and looked at her surgical wounds. This was done with such temerity that it occurred to us that my daughter was the first patient she had ever seen. The AccentCare employee attempted to wrap a dressing to the surgical site but we had to help her and when she left the dressing had to be reapplied. A third AccentCare visit was scheduled to occur three days after the second visit. No AccentCare employee ever showed up and no call was made to us by AccentCare. AccentCare failed to contact us in any manner about the health concerns noted at the first visit and failed to contacted us in any way after the second visit by the uninformed employee. We did not contact AccentCare for any additional visits for obvious reasons. read more

Hi Mike Chan the best home health Physical Therapist I could ever have hoped for!!! I had a total knee replacement and he helped me so much. He came on a regular basis. Physical Therapy is very hard work for me. He is a great motivator and was careful to not push me past my limits but he did get me motivated which is what I needed. He was always respectful. He never made me feel bad for having a messy house LOL he always took covid precautions which I really appreciated. Very friendly guy in a professional way of course. I had my other knee done a couple of years ago and gosh there is no comparison to the quality of service I received this time from Mike Chan at Accent Care. I had a knee replacement and needed physical therapy at home for two weeks. AccentCare assigned Mike Chan as my home therapist who came for a total of 6 visits. Mike is by far the best therapist I've ever been to and believe me, I've had many sports injuries over the years! He was kind, very encouraging, which really matters a lot when you have to push through rehab, despite being in severe pain, and also extremely knowledgeable about the rehab process. I so looked forward to Mike's visits and each time he left felt I'd made great strides toward my recovery. I was also seen twice by a home nurse, Marina. She was lovely and extremely professional as well. I believe AccentCare employs great people and I'm very glad to have found their service! read more

The extra star goes to the nurse and therapists, which generally were attentive and did a decent job. However, you may not want to engage services from AccentCare in Northridge from the sum of our experience.... When discharged from a hospital, in earlier days a patient was given a list of home health agencies and told to pick one. These days, when a patient is discharged from UCLA hospital, a patient and his/her family is told that agencies were vetted for quality, and that several of them are recommended above the rest for premium quality. When we asked questions about matters of concern to us - primarily, quality of care of the visiting clinicians, and responsiveness of the agency, we were given UCLA's seal of approval for AccentCare in Northridge. When we researched further, we saw that this AccentCare office and UCLA had formed a joint venture for post-discharge at-home care, under an LLC that included both entities. This was all pretty encouraging. So we went with UCLA's recommendation of AccentCare. Over the course of several months of working with AccentCare, we found it extremely difficult to communicate with them, as noted by others on this page. When we asked for clinical progress reports, we received comments like doing OK or progressing fine, but with little support. When we pressed for more information, we did not receive it from the visiting clinicians, who clearly were oversubscribed and had to get on to other work or appointments. When we called the office, the folks picking up the phone reflexively directed us back to the visiting clinicians and could never provide us with additional information about progress of care. When we asked to speak with the supervisor or administrator, calls back took an exceptionally long time, if they came at all. When we pressed for better communication, the supervisor - who we were told usually worked at an office in the Inland Empire but who had purposely been brought in to fix deficiencies with office organization and service delivery - suggested that, as a one-off measure, he assemble a roundtable of all voices involved in care for a wide-ranging discussion with us. This was a good idea, as it led to a fulsome discussion and the chance to ask questions. The problem was that the suggestions that came out of it, in some part having to do with improved communication, were left at the drawing board. AccentCare could not see the irony in patting themselves on the back for a good discussion that they constantly emphasized was being done as an accommodation to us, and would not be systematized as an exercise in better communication with patients and their caregiving families, would not be generally offered across patients, and would not be repeated for us at intervals. The administrator put it concisely -their office simply had too many patients to build patients and families into regular discussions about the progress of their care. That was left for the visiting clinicians to do - who, as noted, were not doing it well. This all came to a pretty foreseeable conclusion when, against the force of the "doing OK" and "progressing fine" comments we were hearing, AccentCare unilaterally decided to discontinue first occupational therapy, and then physical therapy, without explaining why or offering supporting records of how progress of care had leveled off or "plateaued." Simply put, AccentCare did all that it was going to do, and was not going to arrange more therapy. As a transitional care agency, we were told, that was all they were supposed to do, without further explanation to us, and we should simply be satisfied with what we received. No, we replied. Care decisions should be made by process of dialogue with the patient and family, with the chance for re-evaluation afterward. No less than this was promised at the outset of home health agency care at hospital discharge. There was no lesson learned about better communication. When we next raised that a nursing visit, confirmed in writing two days earlier, had been missed, the response was retaliatory -- to end the delivery of services at our family home, precisely during winter break, when it would be impossible to enlist a new agency. I note that I tried to raise concerns internally, through AccentCare's local office, and then through its corporate compliance office. The compliance officer we reached listened attentively and expressed some measure of agreement, but never got back to us following what was to be a hard look at the problems presented. Her boss, the chief compliance officer, similarly did not respond to a message indicating that we had not heard back from the subordinate compliance officer over months. Proper communication - so key to success - failed us again. If you engage AccentCare, be forewarned that services do not come with a side of regular communication, even when something goes wrong. You and your family deserve to be routinely partnered in care decisions. read more

NO FOLLOW THROUGH, terrible customer service. I have an elderly mother with Alzheimer's in a memory care facility that gets visits from a psych nurse. Her insurance changed first of the year and they dropped my mom after giving me a major run-around to pick up notes from the doctor, etc. Then they flat out LIED to Anthem and said all they needed was the new insurance card, BS! they NEVER even asked for the new card or number. They knew all about the new plan and told me that it did not cover psych visits, etc. how on earth did they have that info if they didn't know the new plan/number? Now they are booked up (supposedly) and totally left my poor mom in the lurch with no visits. Totally UNETHICAL business practices, management, psych nurse Suzanne Thomas, and office staff who answer the phones. Very disappointing experience. DO NOT USE this company. read more

My PT, Alisha, really helped me to get out of the pain and made me stronger, plus she was so sweet and professional. I found PT Dr. Marine was just what I needed when I came home from hip replacement surgery. She is a professional in every sense. She assessed my situation and gave me exercises that addressed strength training for my new hip which improved my overall walking performance and posture. I had a total hip replacement done by Kent Marangi and their office scheduled service through them. Having no idea what to do after surgery it was important for them to come and give guidance. Allison called on Friday and said Nora Reyes would contact me that day and schedule and appointment for tomorrow. At 11:30 when no one had called I left a message on her mobile telling her that. She didn't bother to return the call. For that matter she still hasn't. Nora called at 4:30 and said she would set it up for tomorrow (Sunday). I asked her if her office didn't tell her to set it up for Saturday and initially she explained she had 24 hours to do so. I told her she had avoided my question and asked it again. Reluctantly, she admitted they had. Apparently it wasn't that important to follow the offices direction. I insisted on a different group since they seemed to care so little and the surgeons office set it up with St. Joseph's Home Health Care. The contrast could not be more different. Dwayne contacted me immediately and followed up asap. Clear direction and helpful. I have no idea why Marangi's office uses accent when such a superior service is available. It might have just been an anomaly but looking at all the other reviews for the home services - its seems to be the standard operating method. I would highly recommend you insist on another group. After something like that you want the best service possible and accent certainly is not that. read more

I had the same experience as many of the other reviewers. I found AccentCare to have serious organizational and communication problems. And yes, they lied to Anthem and me, too! After 2 months, AccentCare suddenly stopped providing my 92-year-old Mom services, without letting her doctor or me know. When I found this out, I called AccentCare and the intake told me they stopped services because they no longer accepted my Mom's health insurance. I checked with Anthem, which confirmed AccentCare was still in their network. Anthem called the same AccentCare intake, who denied mentioning to me anything about insurance. She compounded her lie by telling Anthem that she had previously informed my Mom's doctor and me that AccentCare stopped services because it did not have sufficient personnel to provide them. The Anthem agent also suspected that the intake lied to her. So, I learn from my mistake. Look at Yelp before you get in home health services for your loved ones. I know I will. read more

In November 2017, I had surgery and for the second time used the 'in home care service'. Everyone that came to my home did facilitate great care each time they visited. Because I needed so much help regaining my balance and ambulatory status my Physical Therapist, Marine, was instrumental in providing the guidance and daily motivation I desperately needed. She was wonderful! Therapist Marine was patient, knowledgable, & caring. At the end of the 'in home care', I missed the convenience of this program and the caring delivery I received. Same issue as the other review, these people don't give an ounce about you. They never showed up for 3 days, until I finally called and had no idea about my case. Told me they lost the paperwork, promised to be there next day and they would follow up, nothing. Called the " urgent nurse " hotline, and they would just say " go to urgent care " uhhhhhh that's what my insurance paid for? A recommendation to drive my bed ridden dying father to urgent care?The nurse that did arrive once in 3 weeks was very nice and skilled, but the management is horrible, and would not send a nurse when I requested one. They told me to just go into the ER cause they didn't have nurses available. I said I needed one to come by in a few days at least they said, no. So what in the hell do they do anyways? The evaluation nurse didn't even look at my dying father, no one helped me change his bandages or take his vitals or anything. I had to learn and do it all yourself. Worst possible place I've ever dealt with. They did absolutely nothing 2 set up, register or assign a nurse 4 my grandparent. I had 2 literally call them dozens of times 2 follow up & find out if they were going 2 even send anyone out. No one ever returned my messages. At the last minute, after constant attempts 2 find out who or when anyone was going 2 come out (I even had 2 escalate it 2 someone higher but mofos refused 2 give me management's info.), they finally assigned some random nurse (who btw was horrible....can't even comprehend how she called herself a veteran nurse). The so called "skilled nurses" they hire are extremely incompetent. Not only was it pointless 2 have the incompetent nurse come out, but idk wat is the point of the 24 hr nurse call service they have. The "nurse" who took my call after hours did not even have any knowledge of something simple! Wat is the point?!? The other staff there are no help either & have no professionalism at all.
