(5/2/26) Kudos to everyone who spoke out on here and was right! I recently spoke with someone in the escalations department at my insurance. They informed me that they spoke to someone in a position of authority at Access Medical and were told that their current business is CLOSED and they are CURRENTLY RESTRUCTURING. My advice to anyone reading this is: cut your losses, try to recoup what you can, make it quick and move onto another vendor. As for me, the folks at Access Medical strung me along and lead me on and straight up lied to me for over a year - leading me to believe that they were helping me get a new power wheelchair when they were doing not much of the sort. They even went so far as to fleece me for a $4,800+ co-pay - which I'll be attempting to recoup. I do have to give them props for one thing though - I DID get properly assessed for a new power wheelchair, and I DO have the paperwork from that, which I'll hopefully be able to pass on to a new vendor such that I can finally get the power wheelchair I need. As for the restructuring - I hope God intervenes and it doesn't happen. Neither the owners or executives at Access Medical need to be working with people in vulnerable physical and life circumstances, and they certainly don't need to be in charge of anything important like large amounts of money, high dollar assets, or owning or running an actual business. Their actions and behavior throughout this restructuring process prove that they need to go back to licking boots and stay there for a very long while. read more

I have been a client with them since July 2021. Today was a disgrace. I feel like a young man who has been stood up by a girl. I was evaluated for a new power chair in July 2025 I got approved but obviously with insurance you have to wait a little bit. I was told that the timeline was January 2026. The appointment has been moved twice now. It was rescheduled for today, April 17th 2026 I showed up today at the Murrieta California CCS MTU I waited in an hour. I couldn't get a hold of my technician neither could my physical therapist. I eventually have to leave with still no contact from the main office or my technician. I called again about 20 minutes ago finally getting through to someone just to find out that my technician was furloughed. This was not communicated to me or my physical therapist. Now they do not have a timeline for when i'm expected to get the new chair. Access Medical is a joke if you are a loved one are disabled and need wheelchairs or other pieces of equipment I STRONGLY RECOMMEND THAT YOU DO NOT GO WITH THEM read more

Out of business? I've been happy with Access Medical, but they've run into financial problems and can no longer buy parts from their suppliers. They lied for months saying that Permobil was backordered, then admitted the problem when I needed parts for another chair. They say they are on credit hold with their vendors so you should not put a deposit on a chair. If they go bankrupt before delivery you will lose your money. read more

If you it a wheelchair from here keep I. Mind they will not guarantee any defects on the wheelchair. We were sold a wheelchair whose tires started coming apart very soon after and have been battling getting this rectified. They want another $368 Also the drive they sold us has a defect and they told us they could not do anything about it. It has pushed my husband once into a crowd and once into the street. It is unfortunate that I have to write a report like this but for those of you people who received electric power chairs from ACCESS MEDICAL, in the Imperial Valley in the southeastern corner of the state of California, you have been screwed over. We were told today, Nov. 12, 2024, by a service rep in San Diego, that if we needed service done on our electric power chair, "it is your responsibility to get your power chair to us". For those of you who live in a metro area our issue may not be seen in this segment of the business. God help those of you who live in a rural area, like we do, because once the "new" equipment starts breaking down to the extent repairs have to be made on an ongoing basis, don't expect ACCESS MEDICAL to keep their doors open. Instead you are going to be expected to drive 120 miles or more one-way, drop your equipment off leaving your patient stranded with nothing to use in its place, until they get around to potentially "fixing it". Then their "fix" will last another one or two months before it fails again and you get to repeat this process all over again. From the time my wife received her "new Permobil" power chair in Oct. 2022, both of the electric motors driving each wheel had to be replaced. At least one of the motors driving the wheels was faulty when it was delivered so the unit was not "new" as indicated. Yet Medicare paid the "new" price. I contacted a supplier of PERMOBIL electric power chairs in Yuma, Arizona (45 miles east of us) only to be told that "they can't / don't/ won't service equipment that they did not sell/ provide to us from the beginning. I find it really convenient that even though Medicare paid for the equipment, we can't get it serviced by a company who didn't initially sell it. So many ways companies have been paid way too much money for equipment they provide that is not new. read more

Their customer service is terrible. I ordered a tilt-in-place manual wheelchair for my mom from this company last year. The chair requires modifications as my mom is not comfortable or positioned correctly. After more than six months with two different ATP's and dozens of calls and texts, they have still not taken care of the issue. I recommend finding another company that actually supports their products. read more

I have been using Access Medical as my medical equipment supplier since I got my first power wheelchair in 2013. Recently, it was time for me to get a new power wheelchair, so Access Medical called me and let me know that I was eligible to get a new wheelchair whenever I was ready. Seeing as we are in the middle of a global pandemic, I wanted to hold off for a little while until things weren't quite so crazy and I was fully vaccinated. They kept the lines of communication open in the meantime, and when I was ready to "pull the trigger" they scheduled me to see the Physiatrist and the Rehab Seating Specialist (KJ) just a few days later. The day after I saw the doctor, KJ came to my home to do a full seating evaluation and discuss what powerchair I wanted. He even brought a few different options for me to try out and see which I liked best. We decided on the Quantum Edge 3 Stretto with power tilt and recline as well as the iLevel power seat elevator. The nice thing about this chair is that it is narrower than my old Quantum Q6 Edge from 2013, so it fits through the doorways in my apartment A LOT easier! KJ is super friendly and VERY detail oriented. He listens to everything you have to say, and comes up with great solutions for things that could be problematic if not properly thought about or planned for (such as the width of my doorways or the way I plan on transporting my chair). A couple of days later the paperwork from the doctor and physical therapist were completed and ready to send in to Medicare for prior authorization. KJ ordered the wheelchair from Quantum which took NO TIME AT ALL (literally just a few days) to be built and sent back to Access Medical (not sure if Pride/Quantum is always this fast). From the time that we scheduled my appointment with the doctor to the time that my wheelchair was delivered, it was only a few WEEKS!! I couldn't believe how quickly this process went! I got my new power wheelchair delivered last week and could not be happier. KJ delivered and set up my beautiful new wheelchair so that it fits me like a glove and is super comfortable. He set it up from toe to head going one component at a time making sure everything was just right, then after reaching the top, double checked to make sure nothing needed to be adjusted a second time due to changes we made going further up the body. The only thing I am still waiting on is my new seat cushion, which had to be special ordered (it is not a standard size) and was not currently available in the warehouse...but that's okay. I am still using my old cushion for the time being. I don't know that Access Medical could have done ANYTHING else on their end to make the process go any quicker or smoother. The things that will slow the process down (such as insurance authorization, getting medical justification/documentation from the doctor and physical therapist, etc) are all out of their hands but they will (and DO) go above and beyond to make sure you get what you need in a timely manner. I HIGHLY recommend Access Medical, KJ and their amazing and friendly staff for all of your medical/rehab equipment needs. They are super knowledgeable and try to make things as easy on the consumer as they can. I will definitely be sticking with Access Medical for the foreseeable future. They took my money and held it for over a year and made mistake after mistake submitting my claim to Medicare. I definitely will not be working with them again. Casey Trotter is particularly nasty. Definitely will not be working with these people again. They have one or two people who are good in Kevin and Jana but the rest are extremely suspect. read more

Absolutely amazing service and staff. We are new to wheelchairs as our daughter had a seizure during a craniotomy that left her in a wheelchair. Tan first helped us select a portable electric chair which we needed for all of her therapy appointments. It worked great and my 77 yo husband was even able to lift it to put it in our chair. Then Tan worked with us to get a more sophisticated chair which is also amazing. It gives our daughter greater independence which is important since she had to give up her life in NYC due to this terrible disease. The young man, Moses, who delivered the chairs was so kind and knowledgeable and answered all of our questions, including those around ramps for our home. Everyone at Access gets it. They know this can be a very trying time and were sensitive to our needs and our situation. A superior company with a wonderful team working to assist their customers. We transferred from Handi Medical in Minnesota. After a year with Access Medical, I concluded that this DME vendor must be a mirage in the So-Cal desert : the guild seems to have magicians or magic working for them, as their mechanics are able to consistently keep all those power chairs continuously intact. When you account for all those parts that potentially come loose, and all the spaghetti highways that are in the way of their house calls, it is impressive that the mechanics deliver Hollywood's happy endings to their customers. Believing that the clinic is too good to be true, I have withdrawn my case. But, now, dear Yelp reader, You can benefit from their skilled and prompt service. read more

We recently purchased a complex rehab power wheelchair from these people and are very pleased with the process and the outcome. This is my wife's 3rd chair in the last 15 years and by far, this one (a Quantum 6 Edge 3 Stretto) is the best fit and design for her needs. Blaine Hunt was wonderful to work with (responsive, sensitive, and patient) and helped us try out 3 different chairs before settling on this one. This company is the only place in the Coachella Valley that does this work. They do it well, including knowing how to deal with Medicare and their very stringent requirements. read more

After a very rocky 3 month waiting period during which there was a LOT of miscommunication and chances to avoid a LOT of acrimony, the CEO of Access has made personal contact with me to assure an appropriate scooter will soon be delivered. I appreciate his concern and efforts to correct the problems The new scooter was delivered on Thursday, June 22nd at 945 am as promised. The scooter is actually the same model I requested way back in January before Access Medical was involved. I have to commend Blaine Hunt the CEO, for finally cutting through the myriad issues in the ensuing months. We discussed the problems and he appreciated learning about them so refinements can be made. I truly believe that is was a perfect storm in my case that caused all the problems. I was debating for awhile whether I wanted to leave it alone or delete my old review or add to it. I want to spread positivity in this world that we live in right now. But I also feel I rely on reviews and I cannot live with myself knowing I was not honest. Everything I said above was true at the time. Since then, I have learned more. I am not going to bad mouth the company because I have several disabled friends that use them and have had positive experiences so it must have just been me. I want to talk specifically about the individual I worked with. I will not be a returning customer here and I certainly will not be working with Blaine again. Sometimes it is hard to work with the owner because there is nowhere to go up above him. Maybe Blaine will be good with a cookie cutter patient that just needs a simple wheelchair with no specifications. I have SMA. Getting a new wheelchair is extremely hard for me. It takes a lot of tweaking, a lot of patience, and a lot of appointments. Blaine has no respect for time, at least other people's time. He always showed up at least 2 hours late. Perhaps that is because he is so busy but then you should plan accordingly. He told me false information. He would tell me who to contact for what and then when I did that, the person would have to check with Blaine about everything. Obviously, there is a problem with micromanaging. I would ask specific questions like, "Can I get a flat backrest" and he would say, "No, they don't make those for this chair." Then when I went to another facility to ask for help, not intending for them to contact Blaine, it was, "Oh of course. I can order them. Whatever you need." He is a completely fake human being. Two times, to even get a response, I had to involve other people because his precious ego responds to that but not to me. I have never taken advantage or texted him outside of business hours other than that one situation I put in the previous Yelp review. Blaine never told me to leave a Yelp review, but he emphasized how much that means to him so that is why I did it earlier. He is a great salesman. He was perfect up until the chair was delivered. After that, he is done with you. Most of my nurses found him completely inappropriate and creepy because of the things he would say directly to them. This is by far the most miserable chair I have ever had. I do not put that on Blaine. It was my decision. I went with a Quantum instead of Permobil. I understand they have stopped making rear wheel drive in Permobil but after all the problems and pain I am in, it would have been so much easier to learn how to drive differently. I will never leave Permobil again. I am counting the days. I have 4 years left until I can get rid of this thing. I do not recommend Blaine unless you enjoy having to involve other people to get him to listen. He has told me before to not reach out to certain people because of HIPAA and does not want to get in trouble. I am not stupid. He will not get in trouble for something I said about myself. It would only be if he said it. I just want people to know how frustrated I am. He also tries to make you feel bad by saying he gave you things that the insurance did not cover. That is sweet but an item that he said was crazy expensive I just saw on Amazon for $20. It is beyond kind to do things for people but not when you brag about it and want a pat on the back. Also, I do not think he has the talent to think outside the box like people have to do in this field especially with severely disabled people like me. The last time I met with him he was the most passive aggressive human being I have ever met in my life. He must have introduced me to someone 5 times making sure I have other numbers for the actual company not him. It was like a bad breakup with someone who cannot give it to you straight. Also, I will not name names, I do not want anybody to get in trouble because this post is simply for educational purposes, but every time I mention the company, I get nothing but good things, "It is a good company, I am sorry you had a bad experience." I highly recommend Access Medical. My son broke his leg and had a leg cast from his toes to his waist. We had to physically carry him every where. We fortunately spoke to Blaine and found out that Access Medical can build a custom chair for unique circumstances for any age. My son is 10 and Blaine helped him from just wanting to lay on the couch to being able to get around our entire 1st floor and feel like he had some independence while he was waiting for his leg to heal. They are painfully slow almost 2 months to get replacement parts and installed, maybe. The technician showed up park company van a little bit down & across the street, there were no vehicles parked in front of my house I offered let him do repairs in my garage where there was shade and the swamp cooler it was 100+ degrees Fahrenheit outside he was absolutely insistent on doing it outside across the street with the van blocking my view it's hard for me to get around and they know it so walking across the street was out of question. After 15 minutes he came back with the Electric wheelchair no difference except the controller looks use it's impossible to drive the electric wheelchair straight down the sidewalk. When he needed repairs back in December they put him off, said they were waiting for dr auth, insurance auth, everytime we called they put us off. February the repairs were approved. They put us off, put us off, put us off. April his insurance ended, the lady said to me with a condescending tone, "Sorry, he doesn't have coverage anymore. Good luck." BAD BUSINESS PRACTICES! I have struggled over a year for my stinking insurance to approve wheelchair. I have Multiple sclerosis I went from drop foot, single to quad can, walker which I need to fix from being so rough on brakes. Now wheelchair. I wasn't approved because I can walk a few feet. I try long distance and wears me out. I had to use standard wheelchair. Blaine worked this whole time and been through year of appeals and denies. I am so happy that I was chosen for the donation of wheelchair for last Christmas. Its Blaine by request came with buddy Will. They adjusted chair for 4 foot 10 woman. The other day I had a need for a WC for a nephew of mine. I wasn't sure who to ask or call so I contacted Blaine. He was very accommodating and aware of our need. It was on short notice and he really came through. My nephew was very comfortable in the chair and is now able to rehab properly. I can't thank Access Medical and Blaine enough as they truly came to our rescue. I recommend using them to anyone who has a need. When I needed a new standing power wheelchair, I had many choices of vendors closer to me in Ventura county, but two of my friends strongly recommended I work with Ben at Access Medical. From my first meeting with Ben at my home, it was clear to me that his greatest concern was that I receive what I need. Ben and several members of the office staff spent a great deal of time helping me get through the insurance pre-approval process, as well as multiple appeals, all the while showing no signs of fatigue or frustration. Their positive attitude and empathy helped carry me through what would have otherwise been a nearly intolerable situation with my insurance company. Once I received my new standing power wheelchair, it was clear there were problems that prevented me from using it the way I had hoped. With a great deal of help from Ben, Carlos, Griff (manufacturer technician) and Blaine himself (all of whom made visits to my home in Ventura county), a number of significant modifications were made to improve the comfort and usability of the chair. I have come to understand there are certain design limitations with a chair of this type, and what I got was the best of all available choices at the time. I am thrilled to have had these folks in my corner throughout this entire process. Besides being an absolute pleasure to work with, Blaine and his staff (especially Ben and Carlos) not only showed a great deal of patience with me and my requests, but they had a sincere desire to make me happy and comfortable with my new equipment. From the evaluation for a power chair due to MS through the Physical Therapy Dept at UCSD in La Jolla to the follow through after the delivery of my chair I have to say that Access Medical was top notch! Blaine has a wonderful caring, attentive, respectful, creative, and helpful manor. His personal story speaks volumes as to why this is way more than just a business to him. He visited my home to see just how the narrow halls and 90 degree turns would be managed by a certain chair. He suggested the smallest chair that would accommodate my slight stature as well as have all the bells and whistles that would make my life easier. There were a few additions to be made once the chair arrived and I have to say that his staff were very skilled and timely in making that happen. As Medicare will only cover a wheelchair once every 5 years it is important to look forward in the planning phase for future needs to make sure that you anticipate further disability. This company does not have expertise when it comes to what they sell. They are all about making a sale and know nothing about their products. Nor do they care about the people to whom they are selling. They literally had our product for several months (to fix inadequate product), and never returned it to us. My son had no wheel chair to use for his first day of high school. They didn't care. We still don't have the product, but we have a bill. We have no working equipment after months!!!!!! read more

My wife and I had the pleasure of dealing with Blaine and Sean for her powerchair initial fitment. Both were charismatic and understood my wife's needs and had suggestions to accommodate everything. We then worked with Carlos and Sean again and had nothing but positive experiences. My daughter needed a WC back when she was 10 and after off and on use for several years she no longer needed it. Fast forward 8 years and unfortunately, several months ago she needed it again but she had now grown quite a bit and it no longer fit her properly. We were referred to Rick Blanchard of Access Medical by a friend whose daughter worked with him to get a new WC. They recommended him based on his knowledge, his accessibility, his professionalism and his compassion. They were right on all counts. Rick arranged for a PT professional to meet us his office to evaluate my daughter so that we didn't have to make a separate appointment and he arranged to have the Smart Drive rep there as well to demonstrate the equipment - talk about one stop shopping. He then went over different WCs and their pluses and minuses, sending us home with lots to think about. He provided quotes for two different chairs the next day and after several conversations and e-mails between him and I we selected the chair and the add ons. Rick submitted a detailed request to our insurance company based on the PT evaluation and his vast knowledge and much to our surprise, insurance covered everything, including the Titanium upgrade and the Smart Drive. He also has an extremely good relationship with the different WC vendors and was able to fast track us so that we to the WC very quickly. When we picked it up yesterday, he arranged for the Smart Drive rep to be there again to go over the use of the Smart Drive with my daughter and to arrange for the WC to be fitted properly for my daughter. All I can say is that it was a pleasure to deal with someone as knowledgeable, professional and kind as Rick. I strongly recommend him to anyone who needs a WC and wants the best product for their specific needs, the best price and the best fit. Rick has your back. read more

There are lots of places where one can get a wheelchair. The difference comes in after sales support. I had some difficulty involving my friends wheelchair so I called Access Medical on a Friday at 4:45 in the afternoon and expected to talk to an answering machine.
