After a few phone calls with Wei, the designer, and a face-to-face meeting, I wrote the down-payment check, and it's one of the best decisions I made in my life. Now that the design work is done, my house shines through the furniture and decor. What's amazing is that the furniture/decor look as if they are part of the house, as if they are born together. My friends who visited are jealous. They don't believe that I could have such good taste. "It must be the work of a great designer you hired, right?". Yes, indeed, it is true! My wife and I thought we had a pretty good idea of what we wanted to do and how we wanted our renovated house to look, so our original intent was to work closely with our contractor to make all the design decisions on our own. In hindsight, I'm so glad we did not go that route. It didn't take long for us to realize we were in over our heads - as the saying goes "you don't know what you don't know" and that was definitely the case here. If you want a well thought out design, taking both functionality and aesthetics into consideration while ensuring a consistent flow throughout the house, you need an expert. Fortunately for us, we found Jeremy. From our very first interaction we were impressed not just with Jeremy's knowledge and experience in design, but also the importance he placed on getting to know our tastes, priorities, and the outcome we wanted. Over the course of our project we never felt pressured to make a decision that we weren't comfortable with or that we felt didn't fit our needs. That said, Jeremy had many insights and suggestions that frankly we would not have thought of that significantly improved the final result. For example, a small tweak to our first floor design netted us noticeably more room in our kitchen, giving us more cabinet and counter space, as well as improving the flow of traffic. Jeremy is also quite knowledgeable and resourceful. Having him work closely with us in all our material selections - lighting, floors, fixtures, tile, paint, etc. made all the difference. What would have seemed overwhelming became a manageable and coordinated process. He knows which features, brands, qualities to look for. He can also tell you which decisions are important, and which not as much so. This helped us focus on important decisions and not sweat the small stuff. Lastly, Jeremy is a true design professional. He worked seamlessly with our contractors to make sure they understood and followed through with our designs. Detailed and highly professional plans, e.g., RCP, floor plans, elevations, renderings, etc. exceeded our expectations and were very much appreciated by ourselves as well as our contractor. It takes all the guesswork and ambiguity out of the execution, as should be the case. They're also extremely helpful when visiting showrooms - we were often asked how we created the plans or who made them for us. And, Jeremy was always accessible to provide feedback and suggestions 'on the fly', providing a quick sketch or rendering to help us make decisions in real-time. Bottom line, you can tell when someone has a real passion for what they do, and Jeremy has a passion for design. He is a pleasure to work with, and he knows what he's doing - I would not hesitate for a moment to hire him for your project.

So happy we found this place as we've been searching for a new couch for years. We found the couch style we liked, picked a performance fabric, chose how many cushions, seat firmness, seat depth, chaise length and width. Literally everything was customized! I also love that it's made in California without any forever chemicals. I didn't want a prop 65 warning on our couch especially since we have a new baby at home. Daniel was so helpful in the store with all of our questions and he had great suggestions and made sure that we knew our options. We never felt pressured into anything and that's really appreciated. My daughter got me a couple of hours with Tamah for Christmas…read more After my session I sent my daughter this email: --------------------------------- Tamah Vega and I made great inroads into my garage, carrying all of the boxes of books from there to my dining room. We also filled 2 garbage cans with discarded stuff. And then we culled 4 boxes of books from my bookcases replacing them with books from some of the carried-in boxes. We also did some sorting books into types. Normally 2 contracted hours would buy 2 hours of her and a helper's time but she offered 4 hours of her alone the day after I contacted her because her assistant wasn't available. We worked well together and in fact when we got to the boxed books she dollied 2 boxes at a time into the house while I pulled them out for access. I'll be honest-we were pretty overwhelmed at the thought of doing a full makeover for our home. We…read moreknew we wanted a total makeover for our place, but trying to find a team that actually handles the 'boots on the ground' construction side and the high-end design is way harder than it looks. After talking to a few different firms, Kanika Design just felt like the right fit. Kanika really listened to what we wanted. I've always been a bit nervous about using bold colors, but she pushed us (in a good way!) for a deeper color palette in the main living areas. It looks incredible. Kanika found us so many unique, high-quality furniture pieces that you just won't find at a big-box store. The biggest thing for us was logistics. Once the design process completed, their team handled everything - architectural, permit headache, and construction. Anyone who has done a remodel knows things never go 100% perfectly, but whenever an issue popped up, they were on top of it immediately. They kept the contractors moving and kept us updated on the budget and what was happening next. It's a relief to finally be done after 2 years and have a home that feels like us but way better. The designed involved moving some walls and relocating fixtures, to create a larger bathroom that someone using a walker or other mobility assist device has a much easier time doing those Activities of Daily Living. Her team includes an excellent CAD expert, Francis, who drew up the blueprints and helped push the building permit process for us; and the Jill of All Trades, Sharon, who takes on all the many tasks to keep the project moving and the all the pieces in place.
