Emma took time to carefully test the new hearing aid, adjusted all the parameters, reinstalled the Signia app, updated the settings on our phone to make sure everything was working perfectly. 1 star -- The worst customer service I've experienced…read more I've been given the runaround for over 6 weeks trying to replace a hearing aid that stopped working. It first took over a week just to get someone at the local office to answer the phone. The corporate office couldn't answer any questions and kept redirecting me back to the San Francisco location. When I finally reached the office, I was told they would simply order and ship a replacement so I wouldn't need to come in. Three weeks later, I still had nothing. I had to repeatedly call just to get someone to answer the phone again. At that point, they claimed there had been issues with corporate getting the replacement sent out, but assured me it would be shipped immediately. Two more weeks passed, and I discovered that wasn't true either. After leaving yet another voicemail that was never returned, I finally went into the office myself. That's when I was told the replacement had never even been processed because they supposedly needed the broken hearing aid first -- something no one had told me during the previous 6 weeks. So after being without full hearing for over a month and a half, I'm now being told it will still take at least another two weeks if I'm lucky. This level of disorganization and complete disregard for a patient's wellbeing is unacceptable. The only reason I used this location was because it's the only provider covered by my insurance in San Francisco. If you have other options besides HearUSA, I strongly recommend avoiding this location.

In contrast, the audiologists at Sound Speech & Hearing Clinic are both knowledgeable and dedicated to following up on any issues. Melissa Beer is highly competent and friendly; she worked with me extensively to fine-tune my devices over several sessions. An additional benefit is the pricing, which is much more affordable than the Stanford Hearing Institute for the same hearing aids from Oticon. Even though I live forty miles away from San Francisco, the travel is well worth the effort.

It was such a relief to talk to him, as he was so kind in explaining my options for hearing aids, the insurance coverage and especially advice on how to adjust it to my lifestyle. I have worn hearing aids for years and as a "not elderly" person who has needed hearing assistance, I have seen numerous professionals in the field. From private insurance/health care organizations to private hearing centers. I have had hearing aids that were top of the line at the time cost over $6000 for the pair. I was looking for an upgrade to newer devices with Bluetooth capability and easily able to connect to my iPhone. I was also paying out of pocket, so hoping not to spend $6000+ again. Although the Costco in SF was closer to me, I could not get an appointment for weeks, so I called the South San Francisco location on El Camino Real. I was able to get in within days and the 1 hr initial appointment was **FREE**. Really. Just show up with your Costco card to get in the door and done. You do need an appointment, they do not handle walk-ins. All of that makes it great, but the quality of service, efficiency, warmth, and professionalism are what made a simple hearing appointment into a truly remarkable experience. The testing and later adjustment and fitting of the hearing aids I bought, was truly beyond what I have experienced with all other hearing tests and fittings. Jocelyn explained the readings on the tests and how that would feel with what I was experiencing daily in my hearing challenges. It was really a huge affirmation as I had heard from other professionals, that "your hearing is not THAT bad". Maybe not on paper, but in daily life it was debilitating. Trying to get my devices cleaned I left many many messages with no response. Eventually I decided to go to the South San Francisco office which needs no appointment. I received prompt service. Then while on vacation I lost my hearing aid charger. I went into the SF Costco store. The attendant was very rude and told me I needed an appointment to talk to him. He was standing right in front of me. When I told him I had called over 10 times with no one returning my calls he seemed to be unimpressed. When I spoke to the front desk at customer care they simply said he must have been having a bad day because of the hot weather. The follow day I called the South San Francisco office who offered me a loaner to charge my hearing aids until the new one arrived. And told be I didn't need an appointment to just show up. Bottom line: Costco hearing aid centers vary by location. Avoid the San Francisco center and go to South San Francisco location on El Camino Real. You will have a much better experience.

Given my situation and needs, I came to the conclusion that I needed a hearing aid. Dr. Huson provided me with several kinds of hearing aids to research and try out, among different costs and sound quality. My academic background is in linguistics (phonetics) and so is Dr. Huson's, so I appreciated being able to discuss my needs from this added, valuable perspective. In the end, I chose a higher-end model to help me better distinguish higher-frequency sounds like "th", "f", "s," and "sh." Dr. Huson clearly walked me through on how to best calibrate the hearing aid,operating the various features, and the proper maintenance and cleaning of it. In addition to Dr. Huson, his office staff and his technologist are also superb and are very helpful! All in all, it has been a pleasant experience being in his care and I strongly recommend him to any prospective patient in a heartbeat! :-)

Advised Jeffrey of this at first fitting but my concern was dismissed. At second session, the process of replacing the wires was complicated by a massive collection of wires, some tangled together. He struggled but could not provide wires that fit properly. I can see why he dismissed that request when I first made it. But that was not the worst of the experience. When I got home, the hearing aids required repeated pairings which was a long, laborious process ending repeatedly in failure. I could not access the Bluetooth function. Another technician tried to help me by phone, as Jeffrey is available only 3 days per week, so better have your problem Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday. The phone tech confirmed, upon my suggestion, that the apps from my two prior Costco hearing aides were still on my computer settings and interfering with the current hearing aid app. I mentioned this to Jeff at first fitting, but he dismissed my concern once again, amazingly reaffirming his doubt at the second fitting despite evidence to the contrary that should have been documented by the Friday tech. These hearing aids were impossibly complicated, having dozens of options, several of which were not easily or intuitively accessible via the app. In addition to the above problems, I believe Jeffrey is not adequately schooled and/or updated in the Apple operating system. I give this company two stars, as they did provide a phone tech when I called on Friday, so I did not have to wait until Jeffrey returned the following week. This unfortunate and very time consuming experience at SF Audiology made me appreciate the services offered by Costco immensely, and I will gladly return to them. They charge far less and their techs are extremely knowledgeable about the Apple system and manually dexterous in making adjustments to the hearing aids.
