This location for Ace is fantastic! The guys there are so very knowledgeable and always super helpful. If I have questions, or need help, I know I can count on just asking them questions there in person, and leave with what I need. However... we need to talk about the 1 star experience with the young females you chose to hire lately, usually to work at the front desk. They have bad attitudes, and seem to have no product knowledge, they also seem to treat customers like they are somehow beneath them. I was struggling with my 2 year old during checkout the other day, and the cashier girl kept giving me bad looks like I was holding up her day plans or something. And I think her demeanor was a bit contagious for the customer in line behind me, because it ended up with me feeling a bit put-out at my favorite local Ace! So management. If you read this, please retrain or fire the bad attitude girls. Please and thank you. lol! read more

Hardware stores -- There's no middle ground for me. I either like them or tolerate them and that depends on what I need. Forget the nearby big-box stores, I don't have the patience or the time to find what I need and before I even get to that point, I can never find an employee. These are firmly in the "tolerate" category. The smaller places, a mom-and-pop shop or even a place like Ace Hardware work well for me, seem to have what I need, and I can find an employee to help. These are the kinds of stores I like to browse through and find things I didn't know I needed. Who would have thought I'd need to exercise a budget restraint in a hardware store? Ace carries kitchen, grilling, and garden supplies as well as local merchandise like candles, soaps, and general knick-knacks, and a limited selection of clothing. When it comes to basics, I'm a fan of this Ace Hardware for being the antithesis of my experiences with the nearby big box stores. read more

Great staff, there's just enough really fantastic employees here to get your project list done Their dog aisle is tops!! This is always a must stop location when we are in Billings, our puppy loves to shop here and she picks out her new toy to the delight of the staff. Usually this is a five-star business. This time it was a one star so I'm going to average it. The sack says ace the helpful place. I was in the plumbing department today and purchase 210 foot sticks of three-quarter inch schedule 42 three-quarter inch 90s PVC. And I asked the young fella tall dark-haired dark beard where the packing was. He gave me a blank look so I explained it was for a hose bib you'd remove the hose bib and put a wax like string in and put reassemble tighten and it stops leaks. His eyes widened and he told me oh that's in gardening. I ask him to ask an old timer as he clearly did not know what he was talking about. He lost an opportunity to learn something and failed horribly at being helpful. He could have stopped what he was doing found the same person I did found the packing material learned what it was what it was for taking care of his customer but he chose not to.I felt like he treated me like I was stupid. Epic fail today in customer service. read more

Just bought a yellowjacket trap. I followed the instructions and then went to hang it in a tree. It slipped out of my hand and dropped about 2 feet to the ground. It burst pen and spilled the contents on the ground. I feel it was obviously defective but Ace refused to replace it and expected me to pay $7.99 for another one. read more

I can't say enough about the Ace locations on Zimmerman Road and on Central Ave. For years we lived near the one on Central and always received excellent service and they generally had what I was looking for. We moved a few years ago and so now we shop the location on Zimmerman Road and once again the service is fantastic! As a bonus, the Zimmerman location offer postal services. The service received at these locations eclipses the service offered by nearby hardware stores and the box stores. I still have to go to the box stores now and then but I refuse to go to the other nearby location because there is a noticeable difference in the service and more importantly friendliness at Ace. Clean store. Great customer service.. This seems like a big ACE hardware store. I like how they have fountain drinks and a post office.

Worst customer experience ever. Manager of store was verbally abusive, threatening and not in control of his really vicious temper--all because I asked him why he kept customers waiting in 20 degree temperatures rather than letting them in the store a couple minutes early when he walked by seeing all of us. I think you really learn a lot about a business by the way they handle a problem. I had an issue with a lawn mower I purchased and everyone at the store, including the owner, went out of their way to fix the issue for me. My wife and I frequent ACE for their great service and helpful staff but they really went beyond with this one; even delivering me a replacement mower. I recommend anyone who shops Home Depot or Lowes to give ACE a try. read more
