Ace Hardware has been one of my many go to places when I need supplies to repair general items. I have often found specialized parts there enough that I stop here before I go to a more specific warehouse. I have found the staff to be friendly, knowledgeable and professional at all times. I have witnessed their customer service with others and they are fair and consistent. I also shop there for my personal repairs and find that if they dont have it they can order it or they can pull from other stores in the area. Dave (Store Manager) and the rest of the crew there always greet people and ask if they are in need of assistance. Try getting that at a big box store Ha! Good luck!

Well I called nobody returned the call so I will tell you what happened.. took back a clearance…read moreitem a drill and when I got home I realized that the drill I got was not the one in the box.. so took it back and Ron was really rude asking me why would you bring back a clearance item anyway and I said I found a better deal on Amazon, which I did by the way, he said I was lying and there was no I found a better deal, called me a liar to another employee as I was walking out: I said fine I will take the drill. I felt the employees, especially Ron and some woman that claimed she was a manager, I showed her the deal I found and she was very rude saying you are getting 50 percent off and I should stop complaining. I wasn't complaining just wanted to show her the deal since I was being called a liar and being treated like I was running some scam with clearance items. It was ridiculous! I've never seen anything like the behavior that ace has, usually a business wants to have happy customers but not this store.

Again, this is a pattern, not a singular or rare event. Out of five times, four priced on sale, and the regular price was in the register system. When I spoke with the Manager, Mike, and took him around the store to show this, he walked away from me and went in the back to hide from me. Yikes!

These are firmly in the "tolerate" category. The smaller places, a mom-and-pop shop or even a place like Ace Hardware work well for me, seem to have what I need, and I can find an employee to help. These are the kinds of stores I like to browse through and find things I didn't know I needed. Who would have thought I'd need to exercise a budget restraint in a hardware store? Ace carries kitchen, grilling, and garden supplies as well as local merchandise like candles, soaps, and general knick-knacks, and a limited selection of clothing. When it comes to basics, I'm a fan of this Ace Hardware for being the antithesis of my experiences with the nearby big box stores.

I was most disappointed to learn Lowe's in Billings does not allow the military discount on…read moreappliances. We needed an electric dryer in a most desperate way. We also found that Lowe's was having a sale on appliances and the sale ended the next day. We did some research, found a couple brands and model numbers before we went to Lowe's, which is an hour drive one way. Good thing we did our research. They had two GE models we were interested in. The one we wanted wasn't in stock but the one with lesser features was. I found the salesman obnoxious in that he wasn't listening to us. He did everything to sell us a matching washing machine which we didn't need. He offered a delivery service which would add to the cost but we needed the machine TODAY and an added cost to remove the old machine in addition to the cost of the vent and cord. AND, he did sell us an extended warranty. Even with the extended warranty (which isn't a very good warranty) and the items to connect the dryer, we did save a little money.
