Service Selection and the value and every once in a while I gotta have the hot dog and/or pizza

I'm a fan of Costco, and the locations in KC are in my usual grocery rotation. We ended up at this one in Montana as we wanted to stock up on provisions for our week with family in Yellowstone. We had a cooler, bought some ice, and made good use of this stop. If you're familiar with Costco locations, this one is not unlike any others you'll visit around the country. They've got the Kirkland brand staples, though I was sad to see not very many local Montana things to try. It was busy for a weekday afternoon, but not as busy as I've seen Costco locations get on a weekend. Overall, not a ton to report here, it was clean, the hot dog lunch we enjoyed was on par with any other location, and we found what we came looking for. read more

Located to the east in the parking lot of the Costco Warehouse, this gas station is available for Costco members only. I've since learned that while my Pontiac/Toyota can thrive on cheap gasoline, my Mercedes can not. And yes, this is cheap gasoline. This is a basic no frills fuel station. Unless you're in a huge vehicle, you can pull in to which evern side of the pump has the shortest line as the hose is long enough to stretch across. Scan your Costco membership card, scan your payment card (no American Express here!) and fill up with fuel that is about 10 cents cheaper than the nearest cheapest gas station because it is subsidized with your annual Costco membership. Separate from the Costco Warehouse but I suspect that the Yelp machine will merge this into the main business and then I will need to request that it is separated again. I was just in here yesterday & thought, I should do a review. So, with that, here we go. Unless you've been holed up in a underground bunker, on the Hi-Line, for the last 27+ years, you've probably been to the Billings Costco, at least once. I've always been a fan of Costco. They have everything from Tires to Medjool Dates & countless goodies in between. Their expansion of Organic items, over the past few years, has been a welcomed addition. The Seafood we've purchased here has always been good. Only negative I have is the hours of operation. I would like them to be open earlier & stay open later. Especially around major Holidays. My monthly trip to Costco is like a Treasure Hunt. I almost always find a shiny new something to ogle. Although, I'm still trying to figure out how I went in for Hummus and somehow filled my cart with 27 other items, to the tune of $363. Sleep-shopping maybe? The layout of this store is maddening. Sample handouts in the middle of an aisle instead of at an end cap. Aisles wide enough to accommodate three carts, which should mean two carts, one on each side going up/down the aisle, and plenty of space to look at the products, but alas, three carts wide means someone is shoving their cart up the center, pushing you into the bags of rice. We have actually been hit by a cart (cart into body, no apology) and have had more than a few close calls that required trying to fit as tight against a display as possible like we were caught in the middle of a train tunnel with a runaway car barreling toward us. There is one particular area in the store where all the carts converge into one mass, like the little white marbles in a game of Hungry Hungry Hippos. It rivals Wal-Mart for the Let's See Who Can Be The Most Inconsiderate tryout location. If you can get beyond that... They offer a massive range of items, as you'd expect, but the plethora of organic products is most impressive. Even if you don't care about organic, the prices are reasonable, which means you don't necessarily have to actively avoid organic labels either. We aren't sure if other Costcos do this as well, but it seems that if you find something you enjoy here, you need to buy a lot and savor it while it lasts, because it won't last long as a store item. There have been a number of items which we've loved that have disappeared. (Please bring back the green juice!) It's a decent store. If you could shop here alone, you'd probably have a perfectly enjoyable experience and be able to pick up most of your list items. It really is the other customers who spoil the shopping. read more

Costco is Costco. It's awesome. Recently, it's begun accepting VISA credit cards rather than just American Express. Which in my opinion is a big improvement. Now I can buy on credit instead of waiting to save up to go to Costco. This customer service desk is not nearly as accommodating as other Costcos I've been to. This disappoints me. I've had trouble taking things back here, which should NEVER happen at Costco ever, anywhere, I don't care who you are. But alas, in Billings Montana it does. read more

Not bad at all...especially for a cesspool like Billings. Clean, decent organic selection, and excellent enforcement of Covid precautions. Limited parking and staff wasn't overly friendly. I attempted to use the "self check" to purchase a bag of ice. The female attendant says to me "what are you trying to do?". Perhaps she is just an abrasive individual and that's her way of addressing customers. read more

I generally only go in for contacts because well they are cheaper there. I will mention that somewhere are two replacement lenses that I had Bosch and Lomb send me. Somebody there signed for them but after that nobody has any idea where they went. Irritating to say the least. Why not take them to the eye vision center? Now going in for contacts is a risky move because then I think hey I'm going to get some chips and hummus and later on am staggering around with big boxes in my arms because I didn't think I needed a cart. As an executive business member and long time customer, we frequently patronize Costco because it is our favorite warehouse experience. Good food, great deals, friendly staff and it is so amazing that they brought in chocolate covered macadamia nuts. They have the best gasoline prices. Thank you to all the staff at Costco for making our shopping experiences with you wonderful! We especially love all the foods you bring in from Hawaii! We do our bi-weekly shopping there. We love that they have some of our favorites that include Kettlehouse Brewing Company's Cold Smoke, Korean beef jerky, pepperoni sticks, Cetaphil body cleanser, chocolate covered macadamia nuts, poke, Franz sandwich bread, wonderful cakes and so much more. read more

First off I love Costco . Had never gotten anything we did not like . Saying that ...we decided to try Kirkland chicken breasts . I tried 3 diff. ways to cook them and they were just plain tough . I can't give enough kudos to Costco. Folks are trying to convert me to the other warehouse shopping facility that I won't name but I'm sure you know the competitor. NO WAY! I am a COSTCO lifer now that I've joined earlier this year. My trips were always made with a family member over the years and because of my travels, I've found it worth getting my own card and stocking up on items that will last for my longer deployments. I don't just save my Costco shopping trips to my travels. I shop at home too. How can I not? This company is always finding different products to carry so you're always looking at new stock on the shelves. It's like kids who go to Toys R Us only this is the adult playground for shopping. They have the regular staples in the food department, eggs, butter, milk, cereals, breads snack items on a massive scale. The clothing always seasonally changes and you know you can always find in in the center of the facility. It's fun to go up and down the food aisles and get the sample food being given out by hourly paid temp workers who can answer questions about what you are sampling, where you can find it in the store, how to prepare the food etc. By the time you get done eating all the food samples, you've had your meal for the day. Just be careful not to hit someone in the back with your shopping cart. Space in between the food sample servers is a tight squeeze. Parking is never a problem but the lots do fill up and occasionally you have to park down towards the ends of the aisles..a bummer on rainy days. You always show your card to the staff who work the entrance. If you like it big, you got it big when the cross the threshold into warehouse heaven. Electronics displays with massive flat panel TVs greet you just beyond the door. You can just stand in awe of the 60inch colorful display so crisp and clear. Its always a better to deal to buy at Costco if you are able. They have the most up to speed technology at better cost because of the nature of how they buy in bulk and are able to sell to the consumer at a cheaper cost but just so you know..Costco will still make a profit. They sell to everyone's needs. Batteries, calling cards, lawn mowers and housewares and lightbulbs and furniture for indoor or patio, to fresh cut flowers, cell service, automotive repair and tires, to fresh baked pastries, packaged meats and rotisserie chicken, to frozen products, fresh produce, wine/liquor, books, clothing and on and on. It's really hard to go here and not easily drop $200. They sure do know what they're doing to make money all the while catering to our shopping needs and desires. I'm always satisfied shopping here. I'll be back at another Costco in the near future. read more

I can't believe they sell coffee beans yet don't have a coffee grinder to use. Every Costco I've ever been to has a coffee grinder for customer use, and usually 3 of them. At least they do sell gasoline here. read more

Great place for buying for a big family. Mutt wife prefers Costco I'm a Sam club guy. But the great part when we were covering the traveling cater wedding I could call ahead and they had what I needed already for me. Got a Costco membership to avoid Walmart and it is worth every penny. The sheer number of people in Costco amazes me every time. Friendly cashiers are always fast and efficient which gets you through a line of 10 people faster than you ever could in a line half that size in Walmart. If you cannot tell, I hate Walmart. read more

I purchased a set of tires in April 2021. Last week I get in my vehicle to see low tire by the end of my work day I could tell it was the back drivers side it was very low. I pulled up to the tire center they offered to go ahead and do the rotation that comes with the 50,000 mile warranty. After waiting over an hour I asked if it was finished the service man tells me they can't repair it as it has a nail in it they would have to order one and didn't know when it would come, then asks me if I had been having problems starting it.( it has never indicated the battery was low). I told him no he says we'll the battery is totally dead and they would hook it up to a charger. It still wouldn't start. I went ahead and purchased anew battery. I think something was done to my vehicle to ruin the battery. The counter person assured me he would call as soon as the tire came in they put the doughnut spare on. I called on Saturday to see if maybe the tire came in he said could be Monday. I called Monday afternoon this person tells me it could take 5 to 10 business days. They would call when it came in. They have my number and my husbands. I specifically asked the 1st person and the person on the phone to call my number NOT my husbands he leaves his phone in the truck during the day. On Tuesday I waited for a call. Nothing Wednesday I called to see if by chance it came. The person on the phone says it's here and has been since yesterday. He said they left a voicemail. Well neither my husband or I received a voice mail from Costco. I brought the wheel into Costco to have the new tire put on. I went to the cashier who tells me it will be $36.98 I asked her why the was a installation fee for they weren't putting it on. She say (we're putting the tire on the wheel aren't we). Very snarky and rude. I decided then I would just take the tire and wheel and have someone else put it on. I spent $900 on tires and should not have to pay anything being there is road hazard warranty or just the installation fee would've been fine with me. When I asked what the depth of the tire with the nail in it she did not know it wasn't on my paperwork I know there are policies and I sure hope one of them isn't treat people like crap. That was my whole experience with Costco not one associate apologized inquired on how to rectify anything apparently they don't care that I cancelled our membership. My so. Will do the same 2 customers lost in one day. read more

It is an average Costco. I have been to many. Worst lines I have ever seen at any of them - every single one is almost always 10 deep (yes, I counted). Employees are friendly but over worked. They really need to hire more because some of the checkouts are always closed despite the ridiculous lines. I hate that this Costco doesn't let you charge food court items at the register like others do. (Update: you can now swipe your card at the food court) The layout isn't great and there is not a good flow to it. I also haven't seen the cute Hanna Andersson clothing here that other Costcos carry - these are my little girls wardrobe staples. read more

I am so happy to find Costco in Montana so that I could get gas for a dime less per gallon than other places in the area. This Costco gas station was clean and at 9 in the morning busy but not insanely so, and easy to get to off the interstate. Highly recommend. read more

Customer service is absolutely horrible. I had brought in a backpack carrying my iPad & upon leaving the store after doing my grocery shopping, Julie who was checking receipts at the exit door asked me if she could check the contents of my backpack. After telling her she absolutely cannot she persistently pestered me to see in my backpack. I told her that law enforcement doesn't have the ability to violate my constitutional civil rights without just cause so she sure as hell isn't going to snoop through my personal effects & I won't be treated like a criminal & I then left the store. I then contacted management about the situation & he handled the problem much better. I asked him a rhetorical question if they check every woman's purse upon leaving. He agreed with myself & apologized for the issue & did say it would be dealt with appropriately. I hope so because it's highly offensive to treat a paying customer in such a manner as that. read more

I walked through Costco earlier today. Costco had a few products that I would have been interested in purchasing only I decided not to become a Costco member. I asked a few questions that could have been replied to with either a yes or no. Instead I was given a sales pitch and information on the business membership. The business membership isn't what I asked about, so I lacked information to my question. On my way out I asked for pamphlet information on Costco membership and I was given a plastic bag with pamphlets. In the end I chose Sam's Club. I found that when it comes to choosing which store to become a member with, it was best to research each store in order to weigh the pros and cons. In my case I couldn't find the same cuts of meat I found in Sam's Club, while in Costco I found a vacuum at a good price. I also compared the prices of products and memberships. With what I would purchase, Sam's Club is the best option for my family. I also learned that both Costco and Sam's Club offer a return of money at the end of certain time frames. On a positive note... Costco was clean, well organized, had a good variety of products, plenty of staff to assist, and spacious aisles. I may give Costco a chance in the future months. For now I am satisfied with Sam's Club. read more
