Overpriced and rude service; it's better to drive to Sonora for Lowe's or Angels Camp for Calaveras Lumber. I needed two 1/2" PVC male adapters. The price tag was $1.59, over $1 more than at Home Depot or anywhere else, really. When I went to check out, it rang up as $9.99! I said, "That's an insane price; the tag said it's $1.59." This Flock of Seagulls ex-band member told me, "That's the price!" A simple price check would have resolved this without issue, but that was not in the cards, apparently. And anyone who knows building supplies would have known how insane that price was. Hire people who know hardware and building supplies. I had to track down a manager myself to get this resolved, which was embarrassing show of their customer service. For 10 months I've been paying their "mountain prices" for the convenience of them being local--no more. I'd rather take a 1.5-hour round trip than deal with rude service and inflated prices. TLDR; Go elsewhere. read more

This store has been on a downswing since the current manager took over! This guy is always on the defensive and attempts to make one feel like an idiot who is beneath him and asking too much of him. He also doesn't train his high school staff to be helpful, nor does he train staff to put items back where they belong. The store is not clean and items cannot be found where they should be. We have been in many Ace stores and the Gardnerville store has the worst attitude and presence of any. With the new store in Carson City Gardnerville has a lot to live up to. We actually travel to CC instead to purchase goods from Ace. At Wickstrom Ace the store is clean, the staff is knowledgeable and friendly. The owner of Wickstrom is on site most of the time and is very helpful with getting you what you need. The extra mileage to get there more than makes up for the many times one has to go back to the Gardnerville store for corrections. read more

Went to this store to find a inline drip filter. One was showing as in stock online, but when I got there the filter was nowhere to be found. No one was even interested in me, circling around the drip irrigation display. This item was listed a 18.99 but found it at HomeDepot for 13.98. Not ever coming back. I needed a chainsaw relatively quickly, after I did some research, I knew we were going to get a Stihl. After more research, the Gardnerville Ace Hardware had the one I wanted in stock. I took a drive from Spanish Springs to Gardnerville. I was amazed by their customer service! I had a conversation with the employee "The Chainsaw Guru", I explained to him what I was doing, he not only help find the one that would fit my needs, it was $100.00 less. Sure, there is a Walmart a mile a way, and, yes, there is a Meek's closer to HWY 395, but this Ace has been a constant in my life for over the 30+ years I've lived here. I order 3 things from the store in Gardnerville this morning. All 3 items indicated they were available for pick up TODAY. I received an order update indicating 1 item would be ready for pick up today and the other 2 would be shipped to the store with their next order, WTH! So now I have to make two trips to the store to pick up my 3 items. If something ends up not being available, per their website, It should be shipped to the customers home. I needed two transponder keys cut for my older Ford. I purchased the keys online for about $15 each off Ebay and then brought them to Ace to get them cut. The employee refused to do it. She said they would only cut a transponder key if the key was ordered through them, and they wanted $120 per key. That's not very customer friendly. So, keep that in mind when you go to this location. If they can't make maximum profit, they won't help you. And if you need keys cut of any sort, just go to the locksmith next door. He's extremely helpful and wants to provide quality service. He's in business to help people. He cut both my transponder keys for a very reasonable price. read more

We went to Ace Hardware to buy some exterior paint for an outside table. Jeffery was very helpful mixing the paint. Had to mix it twice since there was a problem with mixing. He mixed it in an upgraded paint at the lower paint cost. When we paint the small wood table, we found the paint did not match the paint sample. We discovered this after it dried. The paint was closer to the lighter color in the paint sample. I called and asked what could be done to help with the wrong color. I told him I had used some of the paint to paint the table. He was unable to help. I also found out from him the paint machine was down and they were going to have to contact the vendor to fix the paint machine. My question is, was it acting up on Friday when the paint was mixed. I told him I guess I will be purchasing paint from another store. They have lost my business. read more

My husband & I were in there on Monday Memorial Day. It was busy and the staff were all wearing their face masks. Thank you for that. Also the level of service we saw from every staff helping customers was really amazing customer service. Jacob helped me get some kitchen paint & was very friendly & professional. Great experience for us I just had to yelp about it. Also if I ever had a negative experience from a business I just wouldn't go back there. If you can't say anything nice don't say anything at all words from my grandma. The world would be a better place if people went back to this practice. read more

This is a Hardware Person's Hardware Store. It's located within an industrial park in South Gardnerville and also caters to the building trades. I had my short list of stuff to look for, and the only item I came up empty was an ice scraper (it's a Midwest thing). Otherwise, I think it's here and with plenty of helpful staff to get you going in the right direction. read more
