Dont come if its been raining heavy, the layout is spartan with dirt access road that turns to mud. If you're new, head toward the weight scales in the back , before you climb the scale, a slow right to the yellow steel beam unloading area where regular folk unload their aluminium cans into one of their scale barrels.

So…read morewe grabbed our half-filled lawn bag of crushed cans and brought our boys along for the experience. It was a busy summer Saturday morning (note they close at noon). We drove up in our sedan among trucks, trailers and towers. You saw everything from school buses, to bikes and wheelchairs and even the kitchen sink! The drive thru line was long and it's posted "no walk-ups". We waited a good 10 minutes before being instructed to walk up anyways. In the yard, we saw piles and hills of the scrap being stacked and compacted. It reminded the boys of the movie "The Brave Little Toaster", except that it was all industrial. We walked right up to the scales and put our bag down. Then we went inside to present our id to the teller. He gave us another receipt to take to the cashier. There was a bit of a line to see the cashier, and it was super hot, but it was just more for the kids to observe. The folks treated us well, maybe because they're not used to seeing families. In total, we had half a trash bag, about 10 pounds, of aluminum cans. They paid us 50¢/lb. The $5 covered the gas but the experience was pretty neat for the boys to experience first-hand the eco-concious and economic advantage to recycling!

They did, I went…read moreover, the oven and refrigerator that my nephew and I wrestled into the truck were adroitly yanked out with care (no scraping across my truck bed) by just one (1) of their workers and hoisted onto a scale. A few extra bucks in my pocket later and we were off to the nearby Waffle House. No muss, no fuss, we got paid a little to deliver it ourselves instead of paying a lot for someone to cart it away, and everyone we met at Spring Scrap Metal Recycling was enthusiastic and kind. 5 Stars all the way!

I've brought odd bits like metal table legs and old cast iron pans and they've accepted them without issues. You can also choose to sell your metal per weight, so I've seen others bring giant bags of soda cans or even a truck bed loaded with old bikes. The area is a bit rough around the edges, but the people are friendly. You can drive through their garage for them to unload, but just park on the side of the street if your car low / not a midsize or truck. The owner asked me if I was selling and I said no (just hoping they can recycle the metals I drop off!), and she said the proceeds would go to her workers-- sweet! :D If you have metals to dispose of want to sell, definitely check them out!
