I had an extremely frustrating and unacceptable experience at this veterinary office during my first visit, and I will not be returning. From the start, things felt off. I was brought into a room and clearly explained all of my concerns to the vet tech--my dog has been itching excessively, scratching at her eye, and constantly licking her rear. I specifically came in looking for answers, guidance, and recommendations, especially regarding possible allergies. When the veterinarian came in, the interaction was immediately uncomfortable and unprofessional. He didn't greet me, didn't introduce himself, and didn't communicate at all. I was left confused on how to even interact with him--I even briefly wondered if he might be deaf or have some kind of condition affecting communication, and I want to be clear that I would have been completely understanding if that were the case. But there was zero explanation. Instead, he pulled out his phone and used a translator to say "ear infection"--before he had even examined my dog. That is completely unacceptable. How do you diagnose anything without even looking at the dog? Shortly after, the vet tech came in, restrained my dog, and performed an ear swab that clearly made her uncomfortable. The vet then left the room without explaining a single thing. The only information I received was from the tech, who said my dog's anal glands were full and recommended expressing them. That is the ONLY thing I consented to. No one addressed the main reason I came in. No one discussed her itching, possible allergies, or any kind of treatment plan. I left with absolutely zero recommendations or guidance, which is the entire purpose of a vet visit. To make matters worse, I noticed what looked like a used needle and asked if my dog had been given a shot. The tech initially told me no. Only after I pointed it out did she go check, and the veterinarian came back and admitted he had already given my dog an injection--without my knowledge or consent. That is completely unacceptable. I made it very clear from the beginning that I wanted pricing and approval BEFORE anything was done. After the anal gland expression, I was moved to another room and told someone would come speak with me about pricing and next steps. I sat there waiting for about 20 minutes, only to be taken straight to the front desk to pay--still without any explanation of what was done, what medications were given, or what I was being charged for. Once I complained I asked if she had an ear infection or not and the vet changed his mind and stated that she did not have an ear Infection like he said she had before. My bill was nearly $180, and I walked out with no answers, no treatment plan, and a dog that was stressed from the entire experience. When I voiced how upset I was, the veterinarian tried to offer a 30% discount on the shot--but that does not fix the complete lack of communication, consent, and professionalism. This was one of the worst veterinary experiences I've ever had. I felt ignored, disrespected, and completely out of the loop the entire time. I would strongly advise others to think twice before bringing their pets here if you expect clear communication, transparency, and basic respect. read more

The visit to this clinic was due to my senior dog some walking issues. The appointment was easy to make and person on the phone was extremely friendly and pleasant. I came in the same day, and I wasn't charged a vet fee, due to it being a first visit. Upon arriving for the appointment, we were quickly put in an examining room, and the vet tech was helpful, extremely nice and informative. So far, a promising visit, however... The vet wasn't informative, did not really communicate, and took about less than 10 minutes in the room with us. Then, he recommended some trail medication and that was that! I had to ask the tech to tell me what my dog had and about the medication. The cost of the medication for about two weeks was insanely high, and no other options were discussed, until I asked the tech what else could be done. She asked the vet and gave me his answer. Now, my issue is not with the amount of time the vet spent with us, although I would have appreciated a bit more of a bedside manner, nor with the cost of medication. Such is the life of a pet owner. What I did not like was the lack of discourse and care shown. At the end, I left dissatisfied, without a thorough explanation of my pet's ailment nor a real idea of what to do. I went here with my elderly pup based off a recommendation from my mom. She said it wasn't fancy but it was quick and cheap. Well, it was quick and cheap, but I didn't love my experience with the vet. The vet tech was awesome! Talked to me, listened to concerns, cut my dog's nails, and was the communicator and interpreter between the vet and I. The actual vet barely said two words to me. Didn't ask any questions. Didn't really address any of my concerns. It was super awkward and unhelpful. 5 stars for the vet tech, 2 stars for the veterinarian. It was definitely affordable but I don't think I'll be back because I felt the vet was super unhelpful and didn't provide any solutions for us. read more

I've been meaning to write this review for a while...but this vet saved my cats life. We found her by a dumpster, and took her home. Her first week she showed signs she was sick. She was a kitten and not running around. I'd leave for work and she would be in the same place a left her when I got back just waking up. After a few days she didn't want to eat or dink water. My bf took her to a different vet clinic and they gave us a price of $1200 to keep her over night and in there words "if we wanted to give her a fighting chance" angry up set, and depressed me and my bf made calls to a lot of vet places. We were recommended to Ace Veterinary Clinic my a separate vet clinic we had called (they had no opening appointments and suggested we call ace) made the call and had a good gut feeling. We took her in and they checked her temperature and a few other things while asking us questions about her condition. They gave her a shot, and the cat equivalent to and I've bag (I don't know the correct terminology, but it was injections liquids and we had to be extra careful with handling her) and some take home antibiotics. The next few days it was a day and night difference. She was eating again, and moving around. She was in the antibiotics for 2 weeks and completely recovered. Where she was bed ridden, and not eating; after 2 weeks she was now stealing unattended food, and scaling our window blinds. This vet clinic saved my cats life, while also being adorable. Thank you. Had thought this clinic was an inexpensive and safe clinic for puppy shots and welfare checks, I was wrong. I took a 12-week-old German Shepard puppy in for shots and a wellness check. 10 days later the puppy died of parvovirus. Parvovirus has a 5-7-day incubation period. A friend took her poodle to the clinic for shots and wellness check and a week later had to take their dog to another vet for treatment of distemper. In both cases the puppies either contracted the dieses at the clinic, or their conditions were missed during their examination. If you value, your pet's life do not take an animal to this clinic. Clinic is old and run down, needing a good cleaning and new paint to at least give the appearance of a safe antiseptic location. It takes days to get someone to answer the phone to schedule an appointment. The staff are friendly however the Vet is distracted and has no interaction with the customer. read more

Great service and wonderful prices! My dog gets very very nervous at vet clinics but the staff are patient and try to help. The vet techs arnt very knowledgable (except for one girl and I don't know her name) and sometimes they get confused on who you are lol. To sum this up: You are paying A FRACTION of what you would pay at another clinic. I have never seen prices like the ones at ACE and I honestly don't know how they get them that low. I don't expect my feet to get kissed, but these people have absolutely NO concept of customer service. I needed a refill on my pet's necessary meds (he was going to run out within the next few days) and the vet refused to give me even just a little bit to keep him medicated until I could make it in to get his bloodwork done. Went here for complimentary initial visit for our pit bull who was limping. We saw the vet the same day we called. He examined Gracie told us to put her on a diet for her growing pains in her legs made recommendations and it didn't cost me a penny. I've already referred others here. When I called about my mom's dog who was having eye problems they were so honest and said you should probably go directly to the eye hospital because they would be able to do more. I had made an appointment for last Sunday. I cancelled it that morning but realized I was able to keep it .I called asking if I could still bring in a very sick kitten. The person at the front desk Diana I believe told me I would have to wait and I understood. However on 2 occasions staff members came out asking about the patient I was bringing in. I'm giving this location 4 stars, but they are definitely close to 5 stars. I took my Doberman here after he had been having 6 months of skin issues. We recently relocated to Texas about a year ago from Oregon, and ever since then he has had skin issues. After seeing a previous vet, who gave him an allergy shot, but it did not clear up his skin issues, we went to this vet for a second opinion. Dr. Lan walked in and immediately figured out the issue, and put him on a combination of medicines that cleared up the skin issues WITHIN 24 HOURS. My Doberman finally got some relief after months of issues. I am extremely grateful to him and his staff. My only reason for not giving 5 stars, is he didn't have the greatest bedside manner, but honestly, I don't care much if he fixes the issues. Which he did! I get the feeling he is extremely knowledgeable and I will be coming back here. In addition to that, for my Doberman to get the allergy shots, they said they wouldn't charge me the office visit when I come in every month. Which is more than I can say for most of the other vets in San Antonio. And the pricing, in my opinion is really reasonable here! Sooo grateful, thank you! read more

TLDR: This clinic may be inexpensive on general exam prices and simple surgeries, but they charge an arm and a leg for prescription medication and vaccinations. They charge to send Rxs elsewhere. My questions were rarely acknowledged and not answered clearly. I will not be returning, and I will encourage others to avoid this clinic. Full review: My roommate and I brought our dogs in at the same time; hers for a post-adoption checkup, and mine for his teeth and skin issues. My dog has three bad teeth that are likely to be problematic in the future, so I figured that I could bring him in for an evaluation and estimate for the future dental work. On the dental front, I could get no clear answers out of either the receptionist/assistant or the veterinarian. I asked three separate times, "How much would it be to have these teeth removed once they become a problem?" I received the responses "He doesn't need a dental cleaning," "The Dr. only removes loose teeth," and "$15 a tooth, but pain medication and sedation is extra." I asked for the prices for pain medication and sedation, but was given no specific answers, just "extra." The rest of the visit was rocky to say the least. The veterinarian, Dr. Hao Lan, examined only what I explicitly mentioned, without first checking the eyes and ears as is commonplace in both people and veterinary medicine. They made no attempt to make my dog comfortable during the limited examination. The hallways and exam rooms were dirty enough that I didn't want to let my dog explore the room by himself, which is what vets usually encourage for making pets more comfortable. The biggest kicker of them all, besides the veterinarian and assistant being impossible to get straight answers out of, was the exorbitant prescription prices. Although I came in for the free visit for promotion, and their normal exams ARE cheaper than any other place I have been to or researched, they stick it to you with the medication prices. They also charge to call in prescriptions to a different pharmacy. All in all, Ace veterinary clinic may try to save you money on the initial visit, but will overcharge you for any additional costs incurred during a visit. My roommate was equally as unhappy as I was with her visit. She wanted more testing than ACS provides with adoption, and general information about heart worm, flea, and tick prevention. She felt her questions were not adequately answered and that this particular clinic was not pet friendly. Sure, they see pets, but don't do a good job of trying to make the vet a place that isn't scary for them. They also recorded our dog's breeds incorrectly, and sent the wrong name to the pharmacy I sent medications to. (It was still cheaper to fill Rxs at my normal pharmacy including the $6 "calling in" fee than buying medication from this clinic) read more
