I was diagnosed with bilateral posterior tibialis tendonitis and was limping. After my first visit to UPMC REHAB SERVICES with Alisa Miller, PT (who is the best therapist I've ever met), I was recommended to go to Achilles Running Shop in the West Erie Plaza, Erie Pa. Alisa said; "Go there. They're really great. I just bought my stability sneakers there two days ago. Tell them I sent you, and I believe they give you a discount." Well, I was never a runner and never heard of the place, even though I've been to the Plaza many times to other stores. Previously, both my husband and I were loyal customers to Erie Shoe Fly/Meeker Marshall on upper Peach. My husband gets his steel toe work boots there, our sneakers, and my orthopedic S.A.S. shoes as well. These S.A.S. shoes were NOT helping this time at all with stability, even with my Powerstep blue insoles I got from there. I am a very active, 60 year old, retired Registered Nurse, who has worked in direct bedside nursing for 36 years, and have chronic, constant joint pain in my hips, a prior lumbar fusion, and now this affliction! Ouch. Needless to say, I was skeptical someone would be able to help me. I'm no "runner" or athlete". I'm a mature, retired person. So, I looked imtheir store up online and read their reviews. Frankly, some were not-so-great, dating back to 2017. But since my PT recommended the place, I decided to go. My friend and I went into the store on February 26, 2025. Right away, we noticed the store was immaculately clean, and had a ton of really attractive looking shoes. We were immediately greeted by a younger, warm and friendly associate named Kim K., who saw me limping as I began to tell her my story. She immediately knew what to do, and set off bringing me at least 10 to 12 different pairs of shoes. I needed special insoles too, and she brought me these orange colored, Powerstep Plus insoles with the "met pads" for metatarsal relief for my fallen arches. Ooh, those feel nice! A big drawback was they didn't have my size in stock for the insole. Apparently, the most popular women's size is 9-9.5 and they sell out quickly. I ended up purchasing a pair of Hoka Bondi 9 stability sneakers. They are SO attractive with all black cloth uppers, white logos, and a thick white bottom. I am so used to my "old lady shoes"---the S.A.S. shoes, lovingly termed by me, due to all smooth, leather uppers and the rounded toes. I always feel self-conscious when wearing them. These shoes are very nice looking and feel PHENOMENAL. I am also going back to get the Hoka in all white, because I need a second pair for summer that will be able to stay clean. These sneakers are easy to wipe off and stay clean. I hate wearing shoes that stain easily and look dirty. My PT told me I am going to need to wear these shoes all day, every day, for the rest of my life, due to my fallen arches. That is why I am getting two different pair. I am very impressed with the padded running mat that circles the store, which made it super easy to try out your shoes. And, they have this incredible, huge, arc shaped bench, with a thick, "temper pedic" style, gel cushion on the bench. With my back issues, it was extremely comfortable when my feet were in such pain. Thank you very much to the person who designed that mat and bench idea. Kim K. was so compassionate and patient with both of our questions, and was just determined to get me some relief. Sorry, Shoe Fly. Besides my husband's work boots--- you probably lost two loyal customers. Go to Achilles Running Shop in the West Erie Plaza in Erie, PA. Yes, they are over one hundred dollars, but so are all the support shoes at Erie Shoe Fly. They are WELL WORTH THE MONEY to help with pain. Also, they DO offer a 15% discount if you're are sent there by your physical therapist or doctor. They also offer a 15% active military and veteran discount, which my husband is. It's really comforting to know there are caring and knowledgeable staff right here in Erie to take care of our runners, younger athletes, AND us older folks with injuries and pain issues. Very disappointed... We didn't come in to be treated link crap by the manager.... Come in to buy some shoes and open sign was on and there was actually a customer just leaving as we were coming in... soon as we come in the manager barks orders at us that they were closed and do we know what we want, do we know they are closed, again do we know what we want etc. over and over which I reply with a "yes" I replied... You don't need to belittle me, you don't need to yell at us, you are in the wrong! If your closed, then turn YOUR SIGN OFF!!!! & LOCK THE DOOR!!!! If your in retail and your sign is on and have 3 employees standing there then what is the issue... We walked across the parking lot a football field to get there. If you don't want to help people buy 200.00 pair of shoes and 2 people are buying them which equates to spending 400.00 in your store then guess you don't need our business.... Shop local? I think NOT, we will spend our money else where and gladly be helped and treated by much better that even some high school kid at Dicks or Finish line.... Went into the store for the first time today on 3/12/16 to get a new pair of good running shoes. Andrea the gal working there was AWESOME and very helpful, she brought out three different pairs of shoes that she thought would fit me, and I did buy one of the pairs she had me try on. Also she instructed me to walk toward and away from her and run also to get a feel of how my body moves with both motions. And a HUGE selling point for me is they give a military discount to veterans, not too many places give us veterans a discount, definite selling point for me to bring me back. Was in the building for 15 min and was ignored. Obviously showing interest in trying things on but with no posted prices and no customer service was unable to even try shoes on. Won't be back and it's a shame because I would rather buy local. read more

First time in store was Oct 2016 for my son to get running shoes. He was between sizes and the store only had the larger size, so manager said they fit and we bought them. Large tear in mesh (top) happened in January 2017, all other parts of the shoe had very little wear. Had receipt and took them back to ask what could be done. Manager said this happens all of the time and it's just "normal". He then fitted my son for the same shoes (newer model) and he got a new pair one size smaller than the original! Were the first ones too big, could this have caused the strange tear? Finally before I purchased the new shoes I asked the manager if there was anything that the manufacturer would do in a case like this. He said they NEVER work with the store and I could try, he would give me the number. Well, he never gave me the number, but when I went home, out of curiosity, I googled the Muzino customer service number and called them with my receipt in hand. The person was super and within 15 minutes and emailing 2 pictures of the receipt and shoe damage, he arranged a new pair of the new model to be sent to my home in my son's size and we could choose the color! I know that I had 30 days to return the pair to Achilles that I had just bought, but decided not to as what would they do with these used shoes? However, very disappointed that I was first sold a pair of shoes that may have not fit properly and then had a problem and was told there was no other recourse....not true!
