Head there to do your weekly grocery shopping at 7:30 on a Saturday morning and this will be your experience every time: walk through the produce department filled with wilted and often moldy vegetables (see photo -- not a one time thing, it's the norm), navigate sale and digital coupon signs that are inaccurate or out of date, find no one to help you if you have a question, and then check yourself out because they literally have NO cashiers working while they're open at 7:30 on a Saturday morning. Sometimes you're traveling in a strange city. It might be in the beginning of your trip, it might be in the middle, or it might even be near the end. In my case, I had flown from Portland, Oregon to Newark, New Jersey the day before, and was starting a two-week road trip. I needed some provisions, but also some basics such as insect repellent and sunscreen. It's my daughter's fifth birthday, and I totally forgot to buy her a birthday cake! Luckily, Acme has the same service in their bakery as its predecessor A & P had before them. I was sad that they didn't have the Disney-theme cakes on display for purchase like A & P used to, but the bakery chef was sweet enough to decorate and personalize my daughter's cake on the spot. She added Hello Kitty rings for my daughter and her sister to enjoy and a couple of extras for them to give to their friends. The cake came out pretty in pink with matching Hello Kitty decorations that looked like Mommy ordered it weeks ago. Life saver! And for only $7.99. Perfect. I was also able to get the blueberry muffins my birthday girl asked for just for today. I also bought a rotisserie chicken and other grocery store items for the week, all in 30 minutes. The selection and prices here are great. I just miss the big and fancy display cakes in the bakery. But the staff made up for my lack of planning on my daughter's birthday. And I appreciate it. P.S. I went to Acme this morning, just picked up a handful of things and asked for $100 cash back. The poor cashier gave me a look of dismay, realizing that it's still early(8:30am) and that he only has his "starter" money in the draw and would be left with almost no change. I offered that he could cancel the transaction for the cash. He called the manager on duty and she shrugged her shoulders and said that he must give me what he had because she has no money either and proceeded to walk away. He gave me the $100. It seems that he will be left on his own when a next customer wants cash or needs change. I was most definitely NOT IMPRESSED with the manager's reaction and flippant attitude. This IS her problem. I think more and more people assess companies based on how they treat their employees - I am definitely one of this people! read more

I just had a horrible experience in the ACME Market in New Providence with cashier Beth at register 10 at approximately 4:45 pm this afternoon. I had my items on the conveyor and was ready to check out. The gentleman in front of me was completing his purchase. I stepped into the next aisle to pick up a candy bar and when I returned she'd taken the next customer. That was fine. However what happened next was not. When I came back to the register I said "I'm right here." She then yelled "You left the line and you were on your phone." I stated calmly "Don't yell at me. How inappropriate. I am your customer. You are being rude." She said "Well you are being rude to me by being on your phone." Two items one, I had my phone up to my ear but wasn't speaking on my phone. Two, regardless of whether I'm on my phone it is completely inappropriate for her to chastise or attempt to discipline me. I'm not in a position to be disciplined by a cashier. I stated "You don't know what my circumstances are. You have no excuse for your behavior. One person being rude does not equate to another person being rude. I'm your customer. But that's okay, I'll discuss your rudeness with your manager." What an epic fail in customer service. Life is complicated enough without the cashier at the supermarket attempting to add to it. Now I have to take the time to ensure that the situation is handled. You come to the market to have a pleasant shopping experience. That is certainly not what I encountered. To management, please instruct Beth that it isn't appropriate to yell at your customers, regardless of what happened. We aren't here to be disciplined by you. We are here to be served by you. On a side note, I was listening on the phone not using it, because I'd walked to the store from the New Providence Fall Festival and my husband and baby were trying to find me. I realized I'd missed three calls from him when I went to check out. On the next call I answered and he was already speaking to someone else, so I was waiting for him to finish speaking. read more

This acme I go every morning before work to get the premade yogurt with fruit and a banana. The yogurt is very good. Before it was acme they had more yogurt flavors which was awesome but that came to an end when the switch happened. But my major complaint is in the morning it gets busy with people buying a few items and there's only one register open at that time. And you know everyone is in a rush. I wish they would have more registers open so people can get to work. read more

It was a few days ago when I was in ACME planning to get some Mac and cheese for my New Years party. I was greeted by an employee named Mark who was short and had red hair. My wife and I were followed around by Mark for a total of 10 minutes. He told us to step away from the pasta because he needed to take inventory, and then proceeds to ask us if we're stealing. It was a little confusing because we thought it was a joke, but then he cursed us out and told us to leave. I will never be returning after my experience. read more

I had a TERRIBLE experience with a cashier named Linda G. I normally shop at this supermarket as it has normally been fine for me and the selection is not too bad. However, I do not think I will come back. It honestly surprises me how Acme could hire such an animal for a customer service job. In my order, I had a bunch of glass items. As Linda was scanning my items, she continued to let all the glass pile up on the other side, falling all over the place. Then, she proceeded to bag 2 of my 10 bags and looked at me to do the rest. I normally would help bag, but she just stared me down in such a mean way, as if expecting me to do the job SHE IS BEING PAID TO DO. So, I politely asked her to double bag the remainder of my groceries. This woman had the audacity to roll her eyes at me, mumble "I guess" and then threw my stuff into bags. Literally could care less that there were glass items that she was throwing. Still, I tried to remain positive. I paid for my bill (which was close to 100 dollars might I add) and waited for my receipt. She took out the receipt AND THREW IT ONTO THE CONVEYER BELT IN MY DIRECTION. Any normal human being would hand you the receipt, yes. But no, not Linda G! Linda G is clearly unfit for the job and acted like an animal. Wait, it gets better... I then try to tell her to smile a little. I don't know, maybe she was having a bad day? SO she responds to that as I walk away saying, "REALLY...? MAYBE YOU SHOULD." Now, Linda, I smile all the time. Unlike you, I am not 80 years old bagging groceries at a supermarket for a living. I find her place in life to be quite sad, to be honest! Overall, I will never recommend this supermarket to anyone from now on. If you need to go there for some reason, just stay away from using Linda G. as your cashier at least. Don't worry, she is easy to spot. She is the old, ugly lady with short grey hair who looks miserable and like she hates her job and life in general. Convenience no longer outweighs poor customer service. I've been a customer since the store was an A&P location but I'm voting with my feet and taking my business elsewhere. Recently, I've had more than a handful of items that were marked with a price that was different in the system and had to engage customer service. Meh, a hassle but nothing more than a slight irritation. In general, their employees exhibit a shrug of the shoulders to most issues whether it be in regard to price or their "assistance" while checking out (oh, how I miss the self checkout!) but today was the final straw. I searched for a product online and the ACME website indicated it was available; however, I could not locate on the shelf. I mistakenly went to Customer Service for help. I was met with "I've never heard of it" and when I asked for the employees to check the system as I had the SKU on my phone they flat out refused. In contrast, I visited the King's just over the border in Summit and, while they did not carry it, they went out of their way to make sure before I left. All I'm looking for is to feel valued as a customer and I've never received that at ACME in New Providence. Really a shame. read more

Staff is great, pricing is much better than A&P and everyone loves qualifying for the sales without having to be a member and/or needing to have a card etc. I would easily of made 5 starts if not was for the horrendously horrible lines, there literally can be 20 different customers spread out in just 2 lines, worse thing that has happened is not having the self checkout any longer that A&P had, if you go in for 1 item at the wrong time, expect to wait easily 15-20 minutes online, it's ridiculous. They're not slow neither but more lanes need to be open. You would think hire more, open up more lanes, but then again, I see the same at every ACME. read more

I just had a horrible experience in the Acme Market in New Providence,NJ with cashier Brittany V at 11:16 a.m on 1/20/18. I went in all excited to do the clorox deal(buy 5 and save $5). I attempted to do a transaction when I handed her my coupons she stepped away from the register to consult Maddie, Mgr. she came back and told me that I could only use 4 so I said ok. I paid for my 1st transaction and was on my 2nd transaction, she had the coupons laid out on the register from the previous transaction to make sure they all had unique codes; after I realize what she was doing I told her they were all unique. I finished my transaction and went to customer service to do missed coupon and spoke to Maddie, Mgr she yelled over to Brittany and asked why she didn't take the 5th coupon. I'm not sure what Brittany said but it prompted Maddie to step away from the customer service desk and walk over to Brittany. Maddie, Mgr came back and told me that I can't copy coupons and 4 of them all had the same number. I told her that was impossible because I had 10 coupons and all 10 had unique numbers. She went back to Brittany, while the line had now grown 6 customers waiting in line and the Gentlemen that was held up complained to Maddie, Mgr and she said, "don't you see me with a customer give her a minute and she will get to you." After they laid out all my coupons Maddie realized that Brittany had indeed made a mistake by accusing me of copying coupons. I told her that I was offended and what they accused me of was coupon fraud. She said it was a simple mistake nothing more. I was humiliated, embarrassed and hurt by and left without an apology. I informed Maddie, Mgr and Brittany, Cashier that I would be reporting them and they were very nonchalant about it.
