Visited Barth's on the recommendation of a friend, and I'm so glad we did! The prepared foods, meats, and seafood were outstanding. We couldn't leave without picking up the breaded chicken cutlets, humongous meatballs, pasta salad, burgers, and fish -- everything looked delicious. The ambiance was very nice with a pleasant, welcoming atmosphere. Although it's a small market, it has a wonderful selection and very friendly . Parking in lot or street parking if full. This spot is our go to for meats. We love the prime rib eye steaks and the jalapeño cheddar sausages. They do have sections for everything from fruit to cold appetizers, hot appetizers, meals, deli meat, meats, to desserts-- fruit, ice cream etc. The staff are exceptionally friendly and helpful when delivering your choice of meats and at check out. The location is a great spot. It does get busy so plan accordingly. Highly recommend! read more

When I visit my sister in Chatham she always buys cold cuts and cold salads from this place. The roast beef, perfectly rare, almost melts in your mouth. We recently went on a trip and she brought their hot dogs. Everting I have had from Barth's is over the top delicious. Best ever! read more

This is a very nice local market. It has great food options ranging from sandwiches cold cuts, hot dishes, ready to eat. You can also get your steaks and pork chops from the fresh butcher shop. I usually go here to grab a sandwich for lunch. The service is pretty attentive and quick. It's overall a nice spot. I think the prices may be a little high for the steaks and stuff from butcher, but it is a small business so it's expected but likely a better option than larger supermarkets. They usually don't let me edit the sandwiches, which I don't understand why but I guess it's because they're premade. Usually, I just want to add a few things onto the top of it, which requires taking off the top piece of bread, but they always tell me no. read more

I ordered the sauerbraten and red cabbage and gravy last week from catering. The meat was sliced too thick and there was very little gravy. The meat was tough. It would have been much better if it was sliced finer and drenched in gravy. The red cabbage was good. read more

I love Barth's. If you want a good cut of meat, fresh seafood or upscale deli, this is the place to go. I also have Thanksgiving and Christmas catered by them with great satisfaction as to quality and flavor. Their pick up system is outstanding-- efficient and without room for error. The only concern I have is that their parking lot can be difficult to enter and leave during busy times. That challenge can be solved by parking at the mall across the street or parking on the street (if you can find a spot) and walking off the calories you're about to consume. read more

Ordered crown roast of lamb for Easter, beautifully frenched and tied, trimmings were saved/ground. Cooking was easy with instructions included; followed Alton Browns recipe for seasoning. I really wanted to like Barth's Market because of its local charm and long history in New Providence. Unfortunately, it has changed, and my experience was very disappointing. While I was waiting in line--right where the sign said "Line Starts Here"--many people were served ahead of me as if I were invisible. I was the last one to be helped, and I can't help but feel it was because I'm Asian; everyone else was not. On top of that, the prices were shockingly high for just average-quality food. I bought a few things there on Sunday. The jelly donuts were stale even though the freshness date still had a few days left. (We've had them before, and the previous ones were always fresh and delicious.) I purchased cole slaw. I noticed a couple of the items in bowls were behind the wrong sign, but I watched her scoop out the correct cole slaw, put it in the container, and print out a sticker. I guess I should have checked that she labeled it correctly, but I figured she knew what it was. When I got home, it was labeled and priced as cucumber and red onion salad, which is more expensive!!! I know she knew it was cole slaw, so there is no excuse for the overcharge. People really need to use some common sense, and actually pay attention to what they are doing. Barth's Market has been my #1 food resource since I first reviewed it in 2008, and right through the pandemic. Prices have risen, especially on beef, but you see that everywhere. Meat here is almost an art form. Some of my favorite items are the melt-in-your-mouth beef tenderloin, ribeye steaks, brisket & short rib burgers, and peppercorn-marinated flank steaks. A large variety of cuts are available cryo-packed in marinade, and will keep a few weeks in your fridge. Of course, like any quality butcher shop, they will cut or grind any meats to order. Barth's also prepares seasonal specialties, like saté skewers and brochettes for summer grilling, corned beef and hams for the holidays. Many customers come here for their wide variety of German sausages and homemade cold cuts. I love their Virginia ham, olive loaf, and leberkäse. Their chicken is very fresh. I buy their thin-sliced chicken cutlets a dozen at a time, and prepare them at least once a week. Barth's seafood is excellent. The pastrami smoked salmon is fabulous on a bagel with cream cheese. I also bought some fresh swordfish yesterday that was out of this world. I roast it in the oven @ 400°F with olive oil and herbs for about 15 min. It was perfectly juicy and delicious. Most of the deli salads and prepared foods are good, with a few misses. I like the apple three-bean salad, red potato salad, baked beans, sauerkraut w/caraway seeds and smoked bacon, and mac salad. The cucumber salad w/red onion needs more seasoning. Their rice pudding is inconsistent, sometimes too gummy, but nobody's perfect. Everyone on the staff has always been helpful and reasonably polite in the scores of times that I've shopped here. It is impossible for me to pass up the Manner wafer cookies and huge variety of Ritter Sport chocolate bars, which are on the far rack near the end register. read more

I'm a newcomer to Barth's but can see myself becoming a regular. Barth's has an extensive selection of prepared food, fresh lunch options, and (of course) deli meats. From my few visits to Barth's I can say that the entire market feels and appears very clean. I've personally tried the Jersey Boy breakfast wrap (10/10), the Italian sub (8/10), and a few of their prepared sides like their macaroni salad and bruschetta (both 10/10). Barth's is about 20 minutes from me, however their quality prepared food and large selection of fresh meats makes it worth the drive. My only wish for them is that they would carry wild caught salmon- they only have farmed. All in all, if you haven't heard of Barth's or stopped in before, I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for some new prepared/take home options! Though I e always been pleased with the items from the meat counter, especially the fresh chicken I can't say the same for the baked items. Purchased sliced sour dough bread and apple streusel on Thursday. On Saturday morning the bread was already showing mold and the strudel was dry. I used to go here as a little kid when it was Barth's Pork Store. Now it's a market. The bratwurst is excellent fresh out of the case. This past weekend I purchased some burgers. I wanted grass fed and bacon cheddar. The butcher recommended Peter Luger burgers with scallions and Peter Luger bbq sauce in them. I told him I'm not a fan of scallions but I'll try them. He was right. They were game changers. If you're hesitant about these don't be. Get them. They are fabulous. They remind me of White Castle burgers but with better quality scallions and beef. Last time I was there, I sampled their dried wurst and loved the recommendations. They are all so friendly and offer recommendations. The ambiance is that of a German inspired market. They have vegetables, cold cuts case with salads, a quick prepackaged section, frozen items, poultry and the beef section. They also have noodles and other shelf stable items. This is my new found Saturday shopping spot. I recommend you try them out. I'm not disappointed with anything. You won't be either. Sorry no pics. Just go and try them. read more

On 2 different occasions both the meat and seafood counter tried to charge me the wrong amount that was listed. The shrimp cocktail was undercooked.. I have been going to Barths way before they expanded their store. I love their baby back ribs, steaks, roasts and veal chops all my favorites along with everything else they have here. Top notch. Now, the reason for the 4 stars instead of 5?....Well, maybe it's me or I am getting on in years but I can recall the days here at Barths when the help behind the meat counter was excellent. Not so today. It seems that on my visits here about every 3 weeks to stock up they have some young snot nosed, no smile kids at the meat counter. The help here is always changing...never the same kids. Now, don't get me wrong there usually is ONE seasoned professional butcher there but for the most part these young kids act like they're doing you a favor, never a hello, never a smile. If I were the owner this "help" would be gone! ....uh, other than that I love Barths. I guess on my future visits I will just wait for that seasoned professional butcher to fill my order! read more

For at least the past two Easter seasons, my older brother has been ordering a fully-cooked dinner package for the family and the quality and taste is incredible! The spiral ham is particularly delicious thanks to the spices used. The sides are always a hit, with their Brussels sprouts being my favorite (bacon and onions ). The mashed potatoes are always perfectly seasoned-just the right amount of salt and free of lumps. I also love the homemade stuffing with sausage! The prices are certainly more than fair!
