ACME is my local supermarket I have been attending on a weekly basis for about a year and a half. It is a clean supermarket with primarily kind, engaging employees. My personal favorite is Karen, a cashier who is talkative, compassionate and incredibly helpful. She is always offering an affirmation or compliment and is genuinely one of the most positive people I've ever met. The employees who work the deli counter always offer suggestions for different cheeses or deli meats I could try and are engaging/sweet. Some of the employees who work the floor restocking or assisting shoppers could not be bothered to help you. Depending on the time of day you're shopping... you could wait upwards of 10 minutes circling aisles trying to locate help. This is when the ACME app comes in handy! This place is awful. It's always dirty and understocked. I was in there yesterday and half the produce section was empty. All the coolers around the deli area were completely empty. In the dairy section they were completely out of heavy cream and a ton of other stuff. Sadly Acme is always like this. The place is a dump. I will say that the staff I've interacted with were nice. I do routinely come here for my grocery needs. Acme has an app where they have coupons available. Their chicken is a hit or miss. They do have deals. Customer service is not the greatest. There's parking available. Pretty good selection read more

Such a challenging and unfortunate experience. The establishment itself if clean, calming and large with easy to find access. It's the customer service that's struggling. There was a lane with a light on, no cashier. I assumed good intent with stepping away so I went to self-check out. The attendant was kind but also watched me take everything out of my cart including the alcohol and shared that I needed to relocate to the checkout near the Starbucks. I get there and the cashier had AirPods in, no engagement and left my items on the counter after asking it I wanted a bag. After checking out I noticed that the exit was blocked off. There were two store representatives walking directly in front of me and didn't greet, acknowledge or even assist with directing me out of the store. read more

I have several poor reviews over the years about this location. I was just here at 7:25a and as a staff member was walking in I am assuming to start her shift because they just opened at 7, she yells "IT MOTHERF***ING STINKS IN THIS STORE, WHAT THE F*** IS GOING ON". I always go to this ACME because it's right across the street from me. It is located on the second floor and it has a huge, free parking garage. Pros: 1. Great wine and beer selection. But separate check out for alcohol. 2. Surprisingly, the sushi is not bad and actually quite good for the price. 3. Free parking garage 4. Nice pharmacists Cons: 1. Very expensive, more so than Trader Joe's but doesn't have items unique enough like Trader Joe's. 2. There's always a homeless person at the bottom of the staircase that you have to take to get up to ACME. 3. Tonight I watched a Loss Prevention Agent throwing a fit. Very tall pale dude. He laid hands on this guy-- he was pushing this guy, yelling and swearing in front of families. Children nearby started crying. It was extremely uncomfortable to witness. I guess the victim was stealing? But what was he stealing-- food?? He was hungry??? So he was pushed and humiliated by an Acme employee? What a disgrace. When I was checking out, he noticed me looking at him and aggressively asked if I had any questions. I said no, and responded in a hostile tone that I (a regular patron) had a staring problem. When I asked for his name, he turned his back and walked away. The whole experience was very bizarre and when I spoke to the manager Anthony, he said the employee (whose name I never received) needed a cigarette. That response was reductive and dismissive-- if people don't have consequences for abusing people, they don't learn. Perhaps violence is a regular response to people reacting to poverty at the Acme Market. That LP employee is a danger. What a weird place. read more

Pharmacy Review: I was blown away to learn that Shelly in the Pharmacy is not a teenage desk clerk with a poor attitude, but actually a Pharmacist and not only that, is the manager. Her demeanor when interacting with patients is HORRIBLE. I have dealt with many retail pharmacists & technicians and this is hands down the worst I've ever been treated by a pharmacy staff member. She hurried me off the phone multiple times, spoke to me condescendingly, was dismissive to my requests, at one point literally cancelled my prescription instead of letting me transfer it to another local pharmacy. When my medication was out of stock, she didn't say "we can order that for you." Instead, it was "sorry, you need to go talk to the doctor again. I can't help you." When I called back to have her transfer the script to another pharmacy that would order the medication for me, she said "Oh, I cancelled the prescription because I suggested you go ask the doctor to send it somewhere else." Um, what? Surely she realizes that getting a script transferred to another pharmacy is easier than literally deleting it and making the patient ask the doctor for a new prescription. I had to go track down the doctor on the Telehealth system I used and have them call her to re-prescribe a very typical antibiotic for my 4 year old who needed to start taking it asap. She did not care at all to help me. She put up roadblocks instead. When I called back the next day to check if she had submitted the order, she said "I'm in the middle of inventory, call back later" and hung up on me. How is this person not only patient facing, but a manager? I will NEVER trust this pharmacy with my prescription again. Ever. Shelly should go work in a hospital setting where she doesn't have to speak to patients directly. read more

Acme is a total dump, they have rude people there especially that plus size lady with the bad hair and smart mouth who sometimes works one of the checkout lines and customer service, their prices are on the high side, the steps going up to the store are dirty and often there are homeless people looking for handouts. And let's not forget the elevators which are dirty and often have pee in the corner. read more

I am so disappointed with this place. They had a great self check out option but now it's only for small orders 10 items or less. I just had 3 employees be rude to me even tho I went out of my way to be polite to them. Been coming here for over 4 years since it's walkable but I think this is the last straw bc the staff's overall rudeness has definitely increased over time. Nothing about this place redeems it so I'm gonna walk a little farther to the giant heirloom down the street for my groceries instead. A basic grocery store, set up like most other ACME stores I've been to. They pack a lot into a smaller space, which I appreciate! Huge gluten free section, and the meat is always buy one get one free or half off, which somewhat makes up for it being slightly higher in price anyway. The fried chicken and rotisserie chicken are good for a dinner option, and the hot bar and salad bar are usually looking okay. Problems for me include the lack of hand baskets. They never have any at the front of the store. Also, the mini carts are never there. Pushing around a full cart quickly in the store if it's full isn't really easy. so I wish they took my advice (which i've mentioned) and collected the baskets more frequently from the cash registers. Apparently they recently got SELF CHECK OUT!! Much needed, since I'm often stuck in line with 2 items behind a family of 5 shopping for the entire season. read more

Although this Acme is conveniently located with great parking, it falls short in a couple of areas. Even though it's a large supermarket, the pricing is on par with convenience stores or gas stations. They do not have or are seriously lacking hand carry baskets. They do have a Starbucks inside crewed with an ACME employee who will give you the deer in the headlights look if you order anything non-standard (breve latte, etc.). I would love to see a Trader Joe's in Northern Liberties as there are limited shopping choices in the area. read more

Honestly it's too uncomfortable and exhausting to go to this grocery store because of how unprofessional the staff is. Not sure who does your hiring....but wow! While shopping in this acme one evening three employees cat called me from behind the deli counter. On a separate occasion two different employees (security guards?) greeted me and several other customers by literally SHOUTING at us from 2 feet away "Go! Go! Go! You've got two minutes!!" As we walked in 15 ministries prior to closing. I really can't stress enough that they were not telling us they were closing soon but screaming at us for being there at all. When someone said over the loud speaker while I was checking out that the store would be closing in 10 minutes the cashier muttered " No! we're closed now!" The entire staff here is consistently too busy having conversations that are usually not at all work place appropriate and almost always conducted in a scream to even acknowledge the customers. I had an incredibly negative experience here. I went to pick up a prescription and I was immediately given attitude stating "well we're about to close what's your name?" So I provided my name and then the pharmacist said "well it's not here" and I said "okay where is it?" And then she said "they need to order it. Then I proceeded to ask more questions because I did not understand what the issue was. I was then greeted with more attitude for inquiring about where MY prescription was. I dont know why I bother going to the Acme in northern liberties. Every time I go there are not any shopping carts you can use. It isn't because it's so busy but because nobody brings them in from the parking lot. Today only 1 register opened and self service 3 of them. Most groceries stores create a bit of confusion in their design to sort of force you to walk around and look at all the products. I'm fine with that. This store, however, is quite the maze. They place products all over the place. Front signs differ from back signs so its best to just walk up and down every isle until you find what you need. But even if you can handle the disorganization of the store, prepare yourself for a staff force that quite literally knows nothing. I've seen multiple customers just totally exhausted after asking multiple staff members where items were. I watched one guy lose his cool and just yell in the air, "does anyone know anything in this fu%$#%% place!" Quite the scene if you ask me. The sad part? This location is PRIME!!!! You have a nice part of Northern Liberties on one side, and Fishtown on the other. This place could be a cash cow for the owners! It's such a missed opportunity for the Acme brand. I will say this: if another grocery store opens up within walking distance to Acme... bye bye. I can guarantee no one is going to continue going to that mess of a place. read more

Outstanding Grocery Store for Food Shopping and other necessary Household needs....

I never thought that I would be Near a store the size of Acme And ain't it convenient, shopping here? Damn, some stuff's pricey. Makes me miss Trader Joe's But then I see it Kombucha sold in bulk I can't believe I lived this long Without writing an Acme song And ain't it convenient, shopping here? So I don't have a car but luckily live an easy walk away from this Acme. The prices and quality of meat are great, the ease perusing the Weekly Ads makes me happy, and the layout of the shop is amenable to my style of shop and stroll. It's great to have aisles 2-customers wide, and on crowded days, the lines still move fast. Prices for some stuff are spectacular, especially sales. Arrived at 7am today to shop during "senior hours" for my wife and in-laws [who are COVID + and isolating.] Background, 67y.o. male with a cardiopulmonary condition. There were about 30-40 people in the market - 5/6 of us were over 50! Mostly GenZ + Millenial couples stocking up. Is the Acme "senior hour" policy an honor system or just a marketing shtick? Management should be ashamed. And to the under-50's: get your heads out of your selfish, entitled Instagram mirrors and get into this world! I get angry basically every time I come to this supermarket - not exactly what they should be going for, I'd think, but hey that seems to be what the employees want. Let's start with the fact that Acme removed the self-checkout aisles to put in more employee-run checkout aisles that are NEVER OPEN. The lines are perpetually backed up into the shopping aisles, causing more traffic and confusion. Lines are uniformly LONGER than they were before. Are the employees helpful? Rarely. They usually don't know where anything is (which is a problem when organization seems somewhat haphazard) and aren't particularly interested in doing more than the bare minimum. Some are great but most... not so much. The food is overpriced and surprisingly often out of stock, when I can even find it. I would avoid ever going here if it wasn't a few blocks from my house. read more

Hats off to the nice lady who is a manager here. She fired her employee Danny on the spot for threatening me. It was the move that needed to happen. Her employee, Danny, threatened me in the parking lot after he was really disrespectful to me while trying to gather carts, as I was apparently In his way. Danny was very confrontational and threatened me with violence in the parking lot after following me outside when he decided that he wanted to make sure his ego was in tact after I dismissed him inside the vestibule. Anyway, I stepped back inside to complain, and she fired him immediately and had him leave the premises. It was a really good way for her to handle an otherwise outrageous situation. I'm a sucker for grocery stores that sell alcohol. Food and Liquor, that's a home run for me. Cold Cuts were the only thing on my mind after yinyasa. The store was dead of course. I probably got there around 9:30pm but there were few customers. The stores quite clean. This store is the "Whole Foods" level of Acme. Fresh Produce, wide variety of brands, you name it. The best Acme, by far. read more

Acme: I have no problem with you. I love your iPhone app and your sales. Everything is reasonably priced. This particular store is super convenient for me which makes it my go to. I can usually find everything I need. The staff at this store: you are my reason for such a low rating. I have never had anyone be mean, just rude or not always helpful. Now this doesn't apply to all of the staff because some of them are wonderful. I would say the majority are not though. My other peeve is that they have various checkout aisles however I have only ever seen like three open at a time. So yes, you're always waiting. I do have to stay they are trying to revamp the store. They moved and redid the pharmacy and they built a brand new Starbucks. Just need a staff improvement and this store is golden! read more

As someone who loves food (hence why I'm here on yelp) I also genuinely love grocery shopping. However, I hate this acme and will go out of my way to grocery shop just about anywhere else. The food is overpriced, the quality is poor, and the atmosphere as a whole could use some work. Although I'll give them some credit because they've added in a Starbucks and a bar, which I guess is cool if you're into drinking inside of a grocery store. The store is extremely low staffed. I rarely see someone stocking shelves and they only ever have two or three check out lanes open no matter how busy they are. read more
