In my eternal quest to find the best grocery store rotisserie chicken in the world, Di Bruno Bros is the ONLY bird I have run into that had a dry rub... and I've eaten 76th different grocery store tissis as of penning this. I was initially perturbed at the sight of the dry rub, but after demolishing this entire thing, I began to question the rest of the country. Why isn't a dry rub more popular on a rotisserie chicken? It really works. It cost $12.99 and it ended up landing at 9/10, which currently ranks it 8th out of 76 grocery store birds I've tried. An ELITE bird. I was so hungover doing this review, and it damn near brought me back to life. You can lowkey feel that in the video. On an ancillary note, I love Philly with all of my being. There is so much soul down there. One of the most slept on food scenes in the world. I feel like I say this in every Philly review, but I will continue to say it until Philly gets the respect it deserves. GO BIRDS! For a full list of the rankings, head over to johnnynovo.com. Came here for lunch. Made to order turkey club which was toasted. Very good and Large for $12.99. Came with chips and pickle. Also got a shrimp roll and tomato and mozzarella salad. Both very good. Went upstairs where there were plenty of tables.

My main reason for stopping in at the Bruno's this time was the art vending machine. The small vending machines are located throughout the city You put a dollar in to get a small art print There are about 10 different prints Di Bruno's in Rittenhouse is a good place to grab a to go lunch or pastry in the morning. It has lots of different options like sandwiches and pasta. The cheese area has a big variety and you can usually sample before you buy. They have a seafood counter and a wine section as well as lots of Italian groceries you can buy. They also have fresh bread and coffee and pastry counter the staff are helpful and answering questions about different kinds of food, cheese and wine. It reminds you of an old time Italian grocery store.

Went for the mini prints, stayed for the food! I just had to swing by Di Bruno Bros after hearing that there was a vending machine of mini prints by Anastasia Inciardi. I wasn't sure what to expect when I walked in, but I was immediately surrounded by a plethora of delicious food, drinks, spreads, cheeses, and gorgeous floral arrangements. I didn't have too much time to stick around but while I was there I noticed a whole section of pre-made foods. Decided to get a Caprese stromboli and a toffee pretzel chocolate bar to go. Thoughts on the stromboli: a LOT of dough. It was very chewy towards the ends and the bread was thick. Not enough filling in my opinion but it was flavorful. Maybe I should have warmed it up longer to let the cheese melt a little more. The chocolate bar was average - nothing special. I wish the pretzels were more prominent than the toffee but it was still good. Prices are slightly expensive. It's a convenient and popular one stop shop for charcuterie board items. I'll definitely make my way back to try their pastries and get a bouquet of flowers.

I pass by Di Bruno Bros all the time but never went inside until Fabiola's mini art print machine was available r here. It's right by the register and a fun way to get affordable local art. I did browse the store and they sell a variety of different foods and drinks.

$9 for one cannoli is pure robbery! The cannoli was good, not great. Termini brothers is a better cannoli and $6.

Great sandwiches! Best Caprese sandwich I've ever had. Bakery looked very tasty, but I didn't indulge. Lots of seating and a bar upstairs.

My dining companion argued strenuously that pickles have no place on a hoagie but I ignored him lol. I skipped the mayo tho. Surprisingly Dan takes credit cards and Apple Pay, $5 min. He keeps long hours for such a simple sandwich shop. Dan's used to be a butcher & convenience store, maybe back in 1947. Now the shelves are mostly empty except for chips soda and milk, and the butcher case mostly has coleslaw and deli meats. It's actually kind of depressing if you walk to the back. Its a small old school deli that slices the meat to order and provides service with a smile. I was working in Fishtown and checked yelp real quick to see if there was a new spot nearby that I could try for lunch. Dan's had very good reviews and it was less than 5 minutes away. I think its a husband and wife that run this place but I wasn't 100% sure. I ordered a large Italian hoagie and woman behind the counter grabbed the roll from the clear bin in front of the counter and the gentlemen sliced the meat fresh for my Italian and added peppers, oil & vinegar and SPO. There are not many places that still operate like a true old school deli and I really enjoyed it. As she handed me the hoagie she asked if I had ever been there before to which I answered "no." She said well you'll be back. I loved the confidence and she was 100% right! If you are in the area and love a good Italian hoagie Dan's is a must try.

No disrespect at all to Heather Thomason, because this really is her brain child. I've loved following her for a few years now and was happy her kickstarter was backed. I really wanted to contribute and fought for it a bit, but it was backed before I made up my mind. I did wrestle with it for a bit, about what package I would get, but I knew it would be logistically hard to support. We walked in and saw a lot of interesting items. Duck Eggs really caught our eye, but we didn't want to carry them around with us. Decided to leave the store, go to ITV for a drink, and come back before they closed at 6:00 PM. Ordered a nice cut of flank steak and the duck eggs. Maybe for a Kangaroo burger later this week? I just love the idea here, where Primal wants to be more interconnected with farms. I'm really into better quality eggs now, for when we make pasta or things like that. Knowing what the animal ate, really helps make a better product when egg is the star.

I loved the stories and reputation that Heather Thomason set during her time at Kensington…read moreQuarters. And although I still haven't gotten around to trying it during that time, I was looking forward to her and Cecille May's commitment to make sustainable, pasture-raised meat more readily available to Philadelphia when they branched out on their own for Primal Supply Meats (https://www.phillymag.com/foobooz/2016/05/31/kensington-quarters-butcher-heads-out-on-her-own/). And when I sampled their offerings at spots like Stargazy, Garage, and Tired Hands Fermenteria it added up to some of the best meat dishes I've had. While they did an amicable job of providing their meats to restaurants and farmers markets, Primal Supply really needed a butcher shop of their own to better prepare Philly for the carnivore cravings that their meats illicit. And when I heard that they were set to open a few blocks away from me in the spot that used to house the old East Passyunk hardware store (https://www.phillymag.com/foobooz/2017/12/15/primal-supply-butcher-shop-east-passyunk/), it lead to some of the best sausages that I've had (and I say this as a Cappuccio's die hard! - https://www.yelp.com/biz/cappuccios-meats-philadelphia). the bacon & thyme pork sausage was sweet yet smoky and savory at the same time. And the pork Vindaloo yielded an ample amount of Indian spices and heat. Add in the ability to get beef, pork, chicken, liver, lamb, goat stew, and even pet food, and you'll find a huge variety of options. They also carry local cheeses from the likes of Birch Run Farms, pasta from Severino, and the oppotunity to join their pay as you go Butcher's Club meat program, making it another solid addition to East Passyunk!
