I stopped into Trader Joe's while staying nearby for business. The location is close to one of the hotels and makes it a good option for some healthy food options. The interior is nice and bright and the aisles are wide enough to easily navigate. I appreciate the tofu and faux meat selections they have at TJ's and this one is no exception. One thing I did really enjoy and haven't seen at other TJ's was the frozen tofu bim bap. I got a couple of those and enjoyed them later when they thawed. Super tasty and portable. Very convenient to have TJ's located not far from where I was staying while in Philly. Came here looking to pick up some snacks while here and ooh the new large cooler bag that was just released for the summer. The black and red one - perfect for keeping food cool while traveling with ice packs of course. Luckily it wasn't crowded when I was here but it was toward the end of the day. Store was clean and staff was stocking the shelves. Easy to find what one needed. Most of the TJ's have similar layouts. Check out was quick and staff was friendly and helpful. I'm glad to see that TJ's opened up closer to where we stay at in Philly! I wasn't looking for anything in particular as what I really want is only sold during the holidays (the sweet & salty snack mix). But, because we don't have TJ's in Hawaii, I wanted to mosey around. Easiest 5 star I will write all month. I've become a super fan of the grocery chain and Philly did not disappoint one bit. I actually was not even looking for TJ, but stumbled upon them on a walk. An inner city store may be more rare I believe. So I had to check them out. The walk up was clear of debris and store shockingly clean and organized for a busy city location. Dependable staff like mine in Virginia Beach were friendly and answered questions. I found a few products I had not seen before like boiled eggs. Shelves were overall stocked well. This is one of our go to's in Philly. No visit is complete without a stop to Trader Joe's to load my son up with food... Yes this is a Motherly thing. It is conveniently located to his apartment building which is great. Lines can be long but they move people through quickly. This is a larger store so they tend to have a larger selection and most of the viral favorites. Pricing at TJ's is great especially in a downtown area of a major city. This visit my son was working so went in for the viral totes for Spring. Staff there were friendly and helpful. First time going to a trader Joe's ever in my life and it happened to be in Philadelphia since it was the closest walking grocery store.. Very clean and friendly store. While the staff here for the most part are stellar, and great prices, plants, fresh flowers, yummy packaged foods etc. Buy produce at your own risk. I wasn't paying attention and bought a bag of rotting, slimy, beat up, green onions! They should have been pulled and trashed but they weren't. The nectarines taste like nothing, Pay attention in the produce department it's hit or miss! I didn't bring them back to exchange or refund which I just didn't feel like going back. Beautiful. Beautiful. The ambiance of this location particularly is truly beautiful, quiet, calm and the items are easy to find. I appreciated the spacing of the lines, aisles and areas in the store that were spacious and clean. This venue smelled clean and radiated that it was being taken care of. I went in for ONE item, ONE and ended up leaving with multiple Lol. Their flowers were remarkable and many patrons were in the area contemplating on which bouquets to buy. Staff were friendly and helpful here. I spoke to a few during my visit, things were easy to find and staff were everywhere. My cashier was very kind as well. I pass by this location often and I don't think to go in. I will be back as it is easy for me to get to while running my errands and catching the train! This is a great Trader Joe's. I'm always impressed by east coast Trader Joes locations, well.. most of them seem to really have their act together. I was only stopping in for a few pre marathon brekke supplies that I realized I hadn't secured an hour or so before going to bed. Well stocked every time I go, clean and organized. I came in for some tomato dumpling soup after seeing it all over Instagram. The line wrapped all the way to the back of the store. One of the newer Trader Joe's in the city, thank god. Otherwise the line at the other one on market street is going to be ridiculously long. This is not a bad location; as it's near the reading terminal and Chinatown, giving them a bit of competition and bringing Trader Joe's lovers to places they might not visit as often. The only problem with this location is the parking. If you come after 5pm you get a hour of validation by the garage, otherwise you better hope for a loading zone or a regular street pay parking. The store itself has one of the cleanest bathrooms by the back. Loads of good stuff including the most recent item I never seen before at all stores: mussels! Fresh and frozen, $2.99 a bag, recommend getting 2 if you're feeding more than 2 people. Doesn't have alcohol yet but I'm very hopeful it'll be soon read more

Came here because I was in the area heading to the Reading Terminal Market (see my review!) and I had been watching the construction going on for a long time. I have to say they did a rather decent job of putting together this supermarket which has only been open maybe a week or so. I hope they keep it as nice as it is now. There is just about everything you could ask for in a compact space which seems more spacious once you enter. They have all the regular sections of any full-service supermarket like dairy, produce, meats, fruits, and the like. They must have a small kitchen because they were giving out free samples of "fake" chicken Chicken Tikka Masala which was quite good and also free samples of Halloween gummies, which I did not take. The store had a whole wall of packaged and prepared soups and salads like pasta salad. I ended up purchasing some of the soups (pictured below) and had some of the Chicken Soup for lunch today. Not bad at all. All staff interactions were pleasant and accommodating. Quick, too. I'm taking one star because the store did not have non-grocery products like Tupperware or utensils. No drugs or paper here, either, that I didn't see. Maybe the TJ philosophy is not to have these products? Anyway, I like this place. read more

I finally got the opportunity to shop this Trader Joe's after wanting to go for quite some time but the lines to get in were always very long and it was cold outside. After leaving the convention center I saw no wait and happily went in. This store is soooo much better than the old one on Market Street and such a welcome addition to this part of downtown and bonus for me, it's on my bus route. This is a fantastic and absolute game changer if you live in center city. When I got the notification, I expected a small, hole in the wall Trader Joes satellite spot, but boy was I pleasantly surprised. This Trader Joes boasts an amazing selection of all of the classic Joe's goodies, with a large and semi free parking lot (I think it's the first hour), and overall spacious walking spaces. The flowers are incredibly fresh, the roses beautifully trimmed, and all of the fruits and vegetables fresh and picture perfect. Of course, this is the grand opening review, and I'm sure that once the news spread around, more people will come, but let them, cause this place is amazing! read more

First poor customer service experience at TJ. Woman at the front door scolded me for moving one eucalyptus to another pot. Only reason I did that was because the stems were all tangled and the pot was full so I had a difficult time pulling them out. After finding one that I wanted, I forgot to put the one eucalyptus back in the correct pot and was scolded for that along with other flowers that I did not even touch. Interesting how I'm being watched by this staff member behind me the entire time and others were not. Ended up being too annoyed by this experience so decided not to even buy it. read more

This is my favorite Philly Trader Joe's. It doesn't feel cramped walking down the isle like at Acme. The produce here is fresh and the meat is good at a decent price. I love that they have different yet good products that you can't find at a Sprouts, Safeway or Acme. The Trader Joe's brand foods their self are great as well. It can get a bit busy with a long line around 4:15 pm. But for me it's within walking distance from my apartment and the staff is very kind and helpful. I am new to Philadelphia and during checkout the clerk gave me suggestions on places and restaurants to visit. But my favorite is the fresh flowers. I love fresh flowers in my home and refresh them in my apartment weekly. They have a pretty good selection of undamaged and beautiful flowers. read more

5 stars for the COVID precautions and how seriously they take the integrity of the ongoing pandemic guidelines. 5 stars for an always helpful and upbeat staff 5 stars on a reliable and consistent pattern of food, prices and seasonal specials. In terms of TJ faves: -I like the Arch street location better as lines tend to be shorter -For Thanksgiving they offer a good array of different sized Turkey and Ham, they have a delicious cranberry sauce, their vegetables and fruits are always quite cheap, usually priced per unit rather than by weight. -I usually end up getting their -Some nice spices/supplementals they offer: Harissa sauce -The Vanilla Ice Cream large carton is to die for, it's rich and creamy, but not overly bloating. I love it so much. In terms of COVID safety: -They take mask-wearing precautions seriously and will enforce this. They have plexiglass at checkout, they have marked spots to stand and separate patrons from each other and from cashiers. -They sanitize their push carts and spray your hands upon entering. I'm hesitating writing this review because I selfishly don't want the word to get out... this Trader Joe's location is far superior to the other Center City location. Let's be honest - all TJ's are great - but this one is much more spacious than most... maybe it's the high ceilings? Idk. Things are easy to find, and staff is kind and helpful (as if that really needs to be said). Even during covid, I can count on one hand the number of times I've had to wait in line outside this one. It's a Trader Joe's, so it gets stars just for the product selection. My entire gripe with the store is related to staff and COVID protocols. In the most recent incident, I was standing behind the taped-off area that creates a social distancing perimeter around the cashier. However, I was not explicitly standing on the sticker that's also on the floor. Yesterday evening a manager approached me and asked that I stand on the sticker. My response was "OK, but please tell my cashier to stop touching his mask while handling my items, and scratching his nose through the mask." The manager's response was to essentially run away from me, while muttering "OK" and refusing to look me in the eye or have any further discussion. That's absurd. The manager should be managing the employees and monitoring THIER compliance and behavior, not just playing social distance gestapo with customers. Sorely disappointed. Other issues... panhandlers sitting outside the store begging people waiting to get in for money, and crazy homeless people who go around the store picking stuff up, putting it back, and trying to smash products. Oh, and the cashiers with the big beards whose masks clearly do not fit and do nothing. Anyhow, the store has more to worry about than whether I was standing exactly on the social distancing sticker or not. I'm wearing a KN95 mask that's on the FDA checklist, so I'm doing my part. The fact that I love Trader Joe's is no secret. Big or small, here or in California, Trader Joe's is very dear to my heart. I knew this Arch St. store had recently opened and a friend who lives and works close to it said he'd been here more times than he was comfortable admitting for healthy-ish microwaveable meals. He added that his trips here, no matter what time he shopped, were hassle free. Several days ago, another mate and I met for lengthy catch up dim sum lunch, complete with gallons of hot tea in Chinatown. Since I was 2 blocks from this new store and wanted to walk off some of the soup dumplings I'd inhaled, a look see at the most recent jewel in the Philly TJ's crown seemed in order. By now it was getting close to the dinner hour. The idea of jostling elbows with probably hangry shoppers dampened my enthusiasm slightly but I pressed onwards into the dusk. Besides, it's always a happy thing for me to walk around my city so I reminded myself 'there's no place like home,' adding to that 'people with low blood sugar and crappy attitude be damned.' Well, as Gomer Pyle used to say, "SURPRISE! SURPRISE! SURPRISE!" The store was busy but not a hypoglycemic house of Bedlam. I picked up a basket and started to stroll. There is nothing new in the way of grocery items you can't get at other Trader Joe's stores but the feeling I got as I took my time going from one aisle to the next was of spaciousness and calm. Unlike TJ's shopping trips in other locations where folks park their carts in one spot then travel around the store, hither and yon, furiously stocking up on and grabbing at their 'Precious' from which ever aisle it resided in, going back and forth, back and forth with strict purpose and a kind of vengenance, everyone I passed was browsing and picking items in what felt like a serene head space. No scarcity mentality vibes. No planted carts and warrior ant like marching to and fro. Ah! Since this was merely a reconnoiter expedition, I only picked up a few things and did more walking and looking than buying. After I felt like I had covered the entire store, I made my way to the line for check out and found it to be moving so briskly and efficiently, there was no time to make impulse grabs of the sweets items that tempt one as the lines move to the registers. And that was a-okay with me. An extremely upbeat young woman on a pedestal of sorts (high up simply so she could be seen) was the Traffic Officer who sent shoppers on their way to a ready cashier. We passed the time of day, complimented each other on individual items of each other's apparel and et voila!-I was being sent on to register 8 to check out. The pleasant checker and I talked about our wish for a snowy Thanksgiving and within minutes of putting my basket on his counter, I was out the door, groceries in hand, heading into a Center City sunset. I slowed my pace about half a block after I left the store, inwardly marveling over such a splendidly painless, easy TJ adventure. Once again, I breathed a long 'aaaahhhhhhhh.' Oh happy days.
