Coming from a Baltimore and DC native (I've lived in both cities), I think the Acme is an adequate grocery for the heart of Wilmington. Sure, it's true that the "fresh" fruits and vegetables are overpriced, and certainly the selection is not as great as something like Whole Foods or Trader Joe's. The Acme is a store of bare essentials: those poptarts you wanted for breakfast, a nice bottle of gatorade (only $1 for the 32 ouncers as of this posting), a loaf of bread, et cetera. Also, I have never had to wait in line to check out. Not even for a minute. With three new self-check out stations, I think that issue has been fully resolved. Pro-tip: There is a dirt path on the 14th Street side of the Acme that leads to the train tracks. It's a cool place to drink a beer. read more

I love Acme. I went to 14th & DuPont Street in Wilmington Delaware. Brought some groceries & when I got home & started putting my groceries away, I seen that the cookies that I brought was opened & half of the cookies was gone. It's only 8 cookies in the bag. I was so upset, & couldn't go back to the store. I'm not surprised because while I was there a lady came to the customers service desk & stated that it was pin holes in her cup of yogurt. How do you go back to a store with a half of bag of cookies & say this was opened. I started thinking that maybe the cashier switched the cookies. This is sad, I've never had a problem with Acme. Please make sure you check your items before leaving the store. I finally got customer service & was told to bring it back & they will give me another one. Well let's see if it will be that simple. ACME is a rip off. Prices are too high. And now they have a scheme going that you need to clip your coupon for the turkey before you spend your money. But It only says it in the fine print. Prior years spent your money coupon popped up You're good to go. I just spent over $500 in the past 2 days and I can't get a free turkey because I did not activate my coupon prior to shopping. This is unfortunate that I am leaving yet another bad review. Leadership does not look into anything. I am reaching out to report my recent encounter at acme 1401 N Dupont St Wilmington, DE 19806 United States at 5:35 pm et on 5/19/24 . This is my second bad encounter. I will be reporting the manager and employee at self check out . Who did not give me his name nor did he have a badge. The managers name is Wayne who would not give me the employees name. At self check out he accused me of not paying for my back which I did. Them proceeds to scream and yell and defame my character. Then Threatens me and tries to fight me. He was a black young male at self check out , and the manger just let him act crazy. He did whatever he wanted and I will be taking law acting if this does not get addressed because he defamed my character and screamed and yell. This review is only focusing on the Deli product FRIED CHICKEN 50 PCS WHAT A DISSAPOINTMENT AT LEAST HALF THE CHICKEN WAS SO DRY AND OVER COOKED/DOUBLE FRIED Or old , IT COULD NOT BE SERVED IT HAD TO BE THROWN OUT. The chicken at the top of box was eatable actually, but the bottom of the box was filled with obviously either old or refried or over fried. We had to make an emergency run to substitute with BJ's roasted chickens $4.39 each. DELICIOUS. Hong Kong takeout Trolley Sq also has excellent chicken wings. Love the staff at the N. Be aware of expired products on the produce section. At least their fish section doesn't smell bad. It is the closest market I have to do groceries but it is my last resource as well. I can believe other Acme look so much better than this one, the difference is very noticeable. read more

Acme on Concord pike is by far the worst store I've ever been to. Nobody greets and everyone has an attitude when you ask for help. I feel sorry for the few good employees that work there. They are swimming against the tide. Most, especially managers are clueless and rude. Unfortunately the store is 2 blocks from my house and only grocery near by. My most recent experience is not unlike many many others here. I went this evening at 9:45. Without question one of the worst supermarkets I've ever been to. My wife calls this the "Russian Acme." Even in a pinch, I will drive to Giant on 202 or SuperFresh on Philadelphia Pike to avoid going here. In fact, I have gone hungry, rather than venture to this Acme. This "Smack - Me" (as we all like to call it) is kinda run down. To shop at this location, you need to accept the following things: 1) There is almost never any decent produce. Get used to buying not-so-fresh stuff. Or consuming the not great selection of their frozen stuff. 2) All of the employees in the service departments (deli, bakery, etc) hate their jobs. They act in such a manner. You will get used to being scowled at when wanting to buy cheese or a cake. 3) Be prepared to spend half an hour waiting to check out. Sometimes you will only wait 10 minutes and sometimes you will wait close to an hour. There is no such thing as an express line. Don't worry; you will get used to it too. Eventually you will realize you look as beaten down as the people waiting in line with you. 4) If you like organic food, don't expect much of it. In fact, don't expect much of anything besides the standard Campbells and Kraft stuff. You will learn to like the yellow kind of macaroni and cheese ... and then hate yourself for it. 5) If you are a vegetarian, please expect to find the tofu on the shelf next to the scrapple. After extensive practice, you will learn to mentally block out the scrapple and similar items. 6) They will often be sold out of what you're looking for, regardless of whatever it is you may be looking for. This is true unless you are looking for scrapple. They always seem to have lots and lots of scrapple. Basically, if you live in the Trolley Square area, just drive to Giant on 202. Or even better, a little farther to Trader Joe's. Generally speaking, you don't leave either of those stores feeling completely demoralized like I do when I have to come here. This is the worst grocery store in Delaware. This place is really small so they don't have a lot of items that a typical ACME would have. I understand that space is very limited here but they don't even have essentials that almost every other store carry . If you buy produce here it will goes bad so fast, I have no idea what they are doing to it but it only last a few days before mold starts growing on it. The absolute worst part about this place is the staff. Almost all of them are completely useless. I've actually been at the deli counter here and had the person working it just leave while I and 2 others were standing there. He said he was going on break and would be back in 10 minutes and just left. Another time at the deli counter there was a guy standing there but he said he wasn't doing the deli counter and just stood there. No matter what time of day you come here you will have to stand in line at check out because the staff is so incompetent that it takes them forever just to check few customers they have out. Absolutely terrible customer service. Every employee i've encountered has been either extremely rude or completely helpless. There is never anyone at customer service and I always wait there for 10+ minutes until I finally go over to self checkout, where the employees just linger and lean against the register obliviously, only for them to still make me wait. One of the employees constantly makes passes at me and I make it clear that it makes me very uncomfortable but he proceeds to say the same things every time. If i could give negative stars I would. Limited selection, unappealing presentation, and a general rundown atmosphere make this a place to avoid. This store is just fine. I do shop here sometimes because its convenient which I really appreciate and I can get the basics but I don't love it. Often they don't have exactly what I'm looking for, the wait for checkout is usually pretty long and its significantly more expensive than stores outside the city. I walk or ride my bike typically. Unfortunately they do not have bike parking suitable for properly locking up despite what their Yelp page says which is fairly surprising and mildly irritating given its location and the massive parking lot they have. read more

I ordered A Thanksgiving dinner a week early from the Deli. We made a date on 11/21/17 at 10AM to pickup which I got there to get. It was not ready and they could not find any of the items that were suppose to be in my kit. The seafood employee and another employee went walking around the store to find the items. The lady employee told me that everything was in my cart. I checked it before heading to the cashier and discovered that 4 items were missing so the lady employee once again looked for the missing items. I found a green bean casserole in the store and was told it was the wrong one and the employee said that she would have to find it and dig for it in the backroom. Then she told me I could have that green bean casserole and I asked about the roll and she handed me Acme 12 pack large dinner rolls. She brought me the pumpkin pie and we checked to make sure everything was there. I got to the cashier and she made me walk back to the deli to see if the order was right and no one seemed to know. We went back to ring up the Dinner and the cashier at customer service did not know how to put in the code. Another employee called the Deli and they did not and could not find the code numbers. So the cashier finally put in a deli order and said she would fix it later. I felt very upset and stressed out having to look for my own items and not being able to get rung out. I called the corporate and they were very nice. The manager from the store even called me to apologize and it helped me to feel better and he said he would look into it and have a meeting and give me a refund. Seems like there were misunderstandings and miscommunications. I hope they straighten this out for the next customer. read more

(First ever zero star review) What can you say about this place that other reviewers have not? This place is insane on so many levels my blood pressure begins to soar every time I drive by the place. I have had so many WTF instances in this Acme, aka the Crackme, I begin to lose count. From the whacked-out ghetto customers (seriously they make Walmart customers look normal), to the surly rude disinterested staff, to the layout of the store, to the lack of normal grocery items, this place is the epitome of the word FRUSTRATION. Very rarely can one make a quick grocery run, and get in and out in a few minutes. There are always lengthy waits, especially for the 10 items or less line, and the ridiculous self check out computer/scanner almost always overprices an item in my group when it's scanned. I freaking hate self check out. I am doing someones job. "Please scan item" No. "Please robotically eff yourself" And guess what? I should receive a discount for doing it. Take a percentage off my total. Give me a discount on a future purchase. Something. Now, after countless visits, whenever I am in there, and an item is overpriced by the self checkout, or one of the brilliant staff, I ask for it for free. It usually works. You should too. Then maybe they will calibrate their effing machines correctly. I would LOVE to wear a heart rate monitor when I am in the store. I am sure my BPMs are through the roof. It's like my heart is a DJ pumping out shitty techno music. Countless instances I have been so close to a full fledged Tourette Syndrome break down, I don't know how I have restrained myself. I've been merely microseconds away from a litany of four letter expletives so wrong and horrific that anyone over the age of 60 would keel over, and hold their head as blood begins to ooze from their ears. If I had the telekinetic power of Carrie from the Stephen King book, pig blood would rain down and flood the aisles. Shopping carts would take on a life of their own running over managers and employees, smashing everything in sight. Produce would fly off the shelves smashing windows, and senior citizens. Maybe I have anger management issues? Maybe I have seen the same look in others eyes as their frustration thermometers begin to rise, and the thermometer begins to crack? Maybe this place was shat out by Lucifer himself? I usually avoid the Crackme like the plague, but the 3-6 times a year I do go I always wonder why someone has not leveled it, and rebuilt. It has a huge parking lot that is never filled, and sits on some prime Trolley Square real estate. Make it bigger. Sell off some of the land. Force the re-re Greenville cycling crew that parks across the street that takes up every single parking spot in the lot to park there. I seriously implore you to go to this Acme. Don't take my word for it. Just go. FEEL the frustration. Savor it. You can use it as a barometer to judge everything else in your life. Kids are melting down in the back seat, and little Johnny just shoved 14 Cheerios up his nose and can't get them out? Shit. You'll be laying on a Caribbean beach with a tropical drink in hand in your mind compared to that one time you went to Satan's grocery store. You're sitting in 5 hours of beach traffic and you haven't moved in an hour. No worries, MATE. Just go. Please. I dare you. read more

I've never been the kind of guy to wake up on Sunday mornings and write reviews about grocery stores, but I have to make an exception for this dump. When you first walk into this Acme location, the first thing you'll notice is the lack of baskets and smell of bad produce. Next, you'll find that they have placed items on the shelves in the most nonsensical order. I can walk into any grocery store in the continental US and be +/- 2 aisles of the product I am looking for, but not at this Acme. Finally, you'll see that they do not carry a lot of items most would would categorize as essential. They do not have canned spinach, any kind of herbal tea, or brown mustard. Do you like being your own checkout clerk? Good, because at this location you will have no other option. Trolley Square Acme Market has the most incompetent staff I have seen at any business in my entire life. If I had to buy groceries here or just not eat, I would starve to death. My experiences this past Sunday and the week before have made me give up on this place for good now. Their recent hires are some of the laziest and rudest people I've ever encountered here. This is the worst supermarket that I have ever visited. The prices are higher than its competitors, the selection is far worse, and the customer service is terrible. There is no reason to shop at this store. Sometimes it will run out of very basic items (i.e. one time it did not have butter). Also, do not park in Acme's parking lot, even if you are going to the bars from across the street (or Acme for that measure), you know, those bars that make Trolley Square popular and allow this terrible business to stay afloat, because you will get towed away. Avoid this store, either remain hungry, go to 202, grow your own food. But don't shop here. I wish I could give it zero stars. Wow, all you hipsters are harsh! I really do dislike this store, but its not nearly as bad as everyone lets on. pros: huge parking lot, right down the street from me, small size allows for quick trips cons: small size means little selection! its a pain. yes, there aren't many lines for check-out, but i've never had any real problems. one time i had to wait ~15 mins, and that was irritating. but that's happened for me at other stores, too. whomever said they waited an hour is clearly exaggerating. the staff has never been anything but friendly. i have had questions while shopping and haven't been able to find someone to help, though- but that happens at other stores, too. and to those of you complaining about lack of organic products- no shit! its a tiny freaking acme! get over it, go to trader joes (which is a hike from here and constantly mobbed). for the record, i buy some organic produce when i can, and i have found a bit here. pretty standard stuff like greens for salads, etc. if i'm shopping for more than just a few things, or need something really specific i usually drive down to shop rite on the riverfront. meh. read more

Even though this grocery store is close enough for me to walk to, I never go there because every experience I've had inside of that store has been awful. I have felt dirty every time I leave there. It wouldn't be so bad but the staff was perhaps some of the most rude people I have met since coming to this state. On top of that I had the security guard following me around like a shadow in the store acting as though I was stealing. (To management's credit - they did have to hunt him down and redirect him to people actually steeling) Talk about being insulted.
