My girls chose to do the animal experience at the on site farm. Hands down, best part of our stay. Location is the best if you want to be close to the beach and zoo. The only concern I had was the requirement to buy their firewood.

Avalon Campground WAS a very nice campground. Since it sold after the 2023 season, it has gone…read moredownhill under the new owners, whom no one knows. The manager, Michael Slifer, is terrible. It is very obvious that he cares not one bit about this place. Organized activities have pretty much stopped. The game room is not open consistently, and half of the games do not work. People no longer pick up after their dogs. The grass is not cut regularly. The flower beds are not weeded and munched. People are dumping fire pits and leaves in the woods next to the campground, which this campground does not own. Signs state Private Property No Tresspassing and No Dumping, yet nothing is done after it was brought to the attention of management.​ The streets are not blown off anymore. The upkeep on the volleyball court and baseball diamond is no more. Grass now grows on the court and on the diamond. The pools were ripped out at the end of the 2025 season to make way for new improved pools! What a joke. Management promised new pools at the beginning of the 2026 season. Opening came and went, no pools. Then Mgr said Memorial day. Nope no pool. It is now into June, and still no pools. Emailing management does nothing. The manager, Michael Slifer just ignores the emails and complaints. If you do get a response from him, it is "You can leave". He is running this place into the ground. It is very sad to see.

They just stared and didn't offer to Move our cabin or any resolution. The person that I would need to speak to was "off" or "in a meeting" the whole trip. Mind you there were plenty of other open cabins on our street and the next street. I wasn't asking for money. I was asking for an alternative to having my children and myself essentially in these conditions during our vacation. My first night after seeing this all I wanted to do was go home. Would have been better off and saved 700$. We knew during the trip since it was off season we wouldn't get to use most amenities like the pool or lake or other things offered and we're looking forward for a nice cabin and couldn't even get that. I was particularly concerned about the comments made about cleanliness and customer service. When I checked in, I was welcomed so kindly by one of the young staff members. It helped alleviate my anxiety a bit. Although, I could tell that some of the other staff members were not as personable. We rented one of the deluxe cabins. They look exactly how they are photographed on the website. We walked in and the air conditioner was already on for us. Something so simple as that really made a difference. The cabin was comfortable, clean, and the beds were so much better than I expected. I would highly recommend renting one of the deluxe cabins. The only negative thing I can say concerns the pool. It's on the smaller size and gets so packed. After a while the water isn't very appealing. I really hope that the pool gets cleaned regularly.

We…read morestayed in cabin T31, we drove from SC and arrived a tad early we were told they would call that our cabin wasn't ready (the park was empty). We never got a call, checked in at 3pm and tried to shower around 5pm. The entire top of the drain was clogged full of hair. Looked everywhere for someone on site for help. The office closed at 4pm, emergency number called twice no one answered or ever called us back. Following morning: call office she says she will send someone over. Waited almost two hours, still couldn't shower called her back. This was her response: someone has to run to get drano yet no one even looked at our issue. Never heard from anyone again. We were on vacation and had plans so we pulled the hair out ourselves. This place has failed on maintaining the campground. It needs a ton of work done plenty of photos taken and will make a formal complaint as well. At 7k per annual permanent site you'd think it would be immaculate. I asked if my Daughter and her fiance made it in what would be required she said $20 per person per day even though we had a 2 bedroom cabin! Stay somewhere else...
