I have used Acorn Valley for three years . My dog Ash goes at least once a week for day care and we board him whenever we go on a trip. I am surprised to see bad reviews as Ash is a big strong dog and can be a bit to handle and I've never had any issues . he absolutely loves to come there so much that we cant even say day care out loud without him running for his leash and standing at the door. he is very tired after his days there but other wise happy and healthy. Don't trust this pet boarding facility. Have you ever heard of Rover? Try them instead. I'd give no stars if it was an option. I used to board my two dogs here frequently because they were "affordable." Ya get what ya pay for, a trash hole of a boarding facility. I got a phone call the day I landed to pick up my dogs with them saying there was an incident. Apparently the one dog had torn the pad of his paw without them having any inkling of how it happened. They wrapped it up and said he was good to go, no issues. Lo and behold, after going to the er, we found that the pad was detached and he had a broken leg. We confronted Acorn's staff after visiting Quakertown hospital and they simply had no answers for us. They refused to allow me to speak to the person responsible for the incident. This business should cease operations. Please, do not allow your fur kids to visit here. read more

I went in person to see about signing my puppy up for daycare and boarding. The person I spoke with scheduled a test day care day to make sure she would be ok with the other dogs. I checked her into her test day and the employee took her leash and food and explained that she would go into a pen until daycare started. When I went to pick her at 4:30 pm, the person I spoke said they were short staffed that they did not do any day care tests. She explained that my dog was in a pen all day but got out for 10 mins 4 times. I explained that the sole purpose of dropping her there today was for day care. I did not need her to be boarded in a pen, I was home all day. If I had known I never would have left her there. I asked the person why they took the day care test day reservation and she said I have no idea, we do not really have day care in the summer because they don't have enough people. She was rude an unapologetic saying she just got back from vacation and could not speak for what other people said. I asked her he owned the place and she said 3 vets from a nearby animal hospital. The place is so short staffed that they do not deliver on the services requested, I wonder what would happen if my dog actually boarded overnight or for an extended stay? read more

When we go out of town we always take our dog here. This is an excellent kennel that does not nickel and dime you with extra charges like some other places. They include outside playtime with no extra charge. One of the things we look for in kennels is our dog returning and acting the same as usual. She does that except she seems to be a little more tired that usual but that is to be expected. We love our husky and trust Acorn to take care of her when we are out of town. read more

We boarded our dogs at Acorn Valley and I am so glad that we decided to come home a day earlier than planned. When we were taken in the back where they were kenneled, much to our dismay our dogs did not have any water or food in their kennel at all. The day that we brought our dogs to Acorn Valley, we informed the staff at the front desk that we were supplying our dogs food because they are on a specific diet and they are free fed, as they only eat when they are hungry. When remaining food was returned to us, we could immediately see that the amount of food left was a ridiculously small amount. There is no way our dogs could've eaten such a large amount of food in less than a week's time. We also supplied a small blanket that our dogs use at home, which also has our scent on it. We placed it on the cot in their kennel. The blanket must have been taken away from our dogs immediately after we left, as we found it on top of the kennel. The staff who brought us back to the kennel on our return attempted to give us a rawhide bone, which does not belong to our dogs. We never give our dogs rawhide bones. We brought a chew toy for our dogs & had also placed it in the kennel with them. We did not get their chew toy back & it was nowhere to be seen. Finally, when we picked up our dogs, we were very surprised to see that they were not their usual happy, active selves. One of our dogs was hiding in the corner of the open extension of the kennel while the others were hesitant to come to us at first. As soon as we held our dogs, we also discovered that all of them would need baths when we got home, as they didn't smell clean & they all had been bathed before we brought them to Acorn. I have taken my dogs there at least six times and have always been very pleased with the care my guys and girls have received. Right now I have six dogs and all of them seem to enjoy their time at Acorn Valley. The staff is always responsive when I call to check on them. What impresses me is that they remember their names. I have taken all my pets to Acorn Valley, over the course of two decades (both dogs and cats.) I always receive great customer care from the staff, and they remember my pet's name each time I call to make a reservation. When we arrive, my dog runs TO the door to go inside. The staff at Acorn Valley clearly love my dog, Henry -- he is always happy and excited to see them. When we arrive, we are always welcome to take our dog to his kennel run. They are always clean and give me confidence in the care my Henry will receive. There is a menu of options to choose from while your pet visits, to customize your needs. My dog loves to walk, so I sign him up for extra walks. He also has special food and medication needs, and I am grateful that they are so diligent with his care. When I arrive at Acorn Valley to pick him up, my dog returns to me happy and just as I left him...ready to nap in the car! I am grateful to have a place I value and trust for the times my dog can't be with me. When I had cats, I also boarded them. The cattery is great, and my finicky felines enjoyed bathing in the sunlight there. I was nervous after seeing place, grungy feeling. Assured pet would be fine. Picked her up; no voice(she barked for 2 days.) Had awful diarrhea. Poor still all on her tail. Didn't return blanket-imagine it was a mess. Asked to Email me with updates. None. Left treats for 2 days. Only 1 given. It was a very bad experience. read more

We boarded our dogs at Acorn boarding for 9 days at the end of October. We had a German Shepherd and small terrier. The day we picked up our dogs, we were absolutely shocked about our shepherd. She had so much trouble walking. They told us they had to wash her blanket a couple times, it was stinky. We think she urinated on it. They said, you know, she is an old girl. All this was shocking, this was not the dog we left here 9 days ago. We got Chloe home and had to assist her just to stand up and she fell getting up our deck stairs. We called 2 hours later to see what had happened there. They said she was slow to stand up and we put extra blankets down to help her be more comfortable. We didn't understand, we left emergency numbers for a reason. She was urinating on herself, again this was not our dog. We were so upset. I thought we did this to her from the stress of boarding her. Her hind quarters seemed smaller, almost like she lost muscle mass. I ran to store to buy chondrotin and spent the night massaging her legs doing anything we could to help her By Monday I knew something was seriously wrong. We took her to the emergency vet. She had lost 8 lbs since her September visit. They told us she had free fluid in her abdomen and suspected an infection. We didn't know how bad it was. It could have been in her bloodstream. We just didn't know. So the choice was an very expensive surgery to remove the infection. With no guarantee if it had spread to her blood. I'm a nurse. I know exactly how deadly sepsis is. So our choice was surgery or let her go. It felt selfish to do surgery on a 10 year old dog.... that was for us, not her. So we decided to put her to sleep. So 36 hours after we picked her up, we put her to sleep. Devastated and heartbroken was an understatement. I called the kennel that Friday when I could talk without sobbing. I talked to the office manager. . And of course I started sobbing which made her cry too. Her responses felt very genuine. I told her, I didn't think this was intentional but I believe with all the signs and symptoms Chloe had, someone should have seen something was wrong. I believe you cared for my pets, but signs were missed. I asked if the kennel would be willing to contribute toward the vet bill. I knew for moral reasons, not legal reasons. She said she couldn't make that decision. But she would talk to the owner. She would call over to Quakertown vet and get total bill balance. 8 days later she returned my call. I had called a couple times during week. She told me that unfortunately with what Chloe had, it didn't show symptoms until it was too late and they said no to contributing toward the bill. I gave permission to get balance was unaware they reviewed her records. Then I found out from the manager the vet is somehow affiliated with Acorn boarding. I don't think this was the office manager's decision. decision. It was the owner's thoughtless decision. I'm sure for legal protection of the business. I still put my dog down 36 hours after I picked her up from your care. Really?? I made it clear, I wasn't looking to file a lawsuit. I'm not an idiot, dogs are considered property so it's not like I was looking for thousands of dollars, nor would I have gotten it. It wouldn't bring Chloe back. And we would never be able to put a $ amount on our love for her.it wasn't about the money. We felt signs of her illness were blamed on her age. This was about the principle of it. Overall I'm pleased with the care my dog gets when we leave him there while traveling. I did have one situation that I wasn't happy about and that was about the feeding. I had specific instructions on how much to feed him at each meal. Someone there took it upon themselves to change the amount written on the container. He didn't gain any substantial weight that week so I am assuming he was given the correct amount but it was a little disturbing at the time. They said they would look into it. We've been a seven year customer of Acorn Valley. We picked our dogs up today, and got home to find that our biggest dogs harness (full body one, she does therapy visitations) was very clearly cut on the strap that runs from her neck to the back of the harness. Cindy at the shelter told me they don't keep scissors in the building and outright claimed I was lying and that she "didn't know what to tell me". I offered to send a photo but it was declined. To make matters worse, one dog is running a very high fever and all three dogs are pacing, whining, and go out every few moments to use the bathroom. I feel that any establishment or person that will lie about little stuff will lie about significant things. The harness isn't a huge deal, if they had to cut her if she was caught for her safety I wouldn't be upset or expect them to replace it. But paired with the dogs voracious thirst and appetite (three bowls of water and home for three hours..) I'm wondering if care here has gone extremely down hill. Because of the accusation and the dogs appearance and health I won't be returning and I highly recommend that others do not as well. read more

We travel frequently and we've been using Acorn Valley for probably close to 20 years and I'll never go to any other pet boarder. Every employee truly loves your pet as much as you do. My Leonard (an extremely boisterous Jack Russell) literally runs to the door when we get there, and would take himself back to the kennels if he could. There is no fear or apprehension on his part. The caretakers work with every one of your pet's needs and idiosyncrasies and welcome him/her with open arms. Our former Jack Russell, Torie, was dearly loved at Acorn and in her last few months of life, when she had so many special needs, they carefully followed every one of my requests to make her stay as good as possible given her health problems.
