Realized Canadians don't use Yelp much so let me do a few quick reviews for my Winnipeg trip. We drove by this a couple nights ago so decided to stop by, unfortunately no time to play but just a coffee/dessert stop after our dinner. My feedback... - Our lattes were lukewarm so that's probably a 2-star on their own. GF carrot cake was pretty good. - Love the concept, everyone looks like they are having a great time which is 5+ - If I understand the pricing correctly, it's $10 per person regardless of how much food one orders. Feels like there should be some discount pending on the overall spending. - I saw a couple playing Uno, I did wonder why, I guess good for datenight. And looking at it a different way, you ate only paying labout $3.50 per hour. - All the staff we talked with were very friendly. - Hours are completely wrong on Yelp, check for the correct times on their website, they open late. read more

I loved the feels here! Plenty of board games and awesome food to try! The first thing you see when you walk in is a towering library of organized on shelves board games. There breakfast cereal smoothies were also so tasty! The captain crunch one was perfectly creamy and cinnamon-y. They even added caramel syrup to it! I had so much fun playing board games here with my friends. The staff can also help explain the board games to people when they don't know how to play exactly. Since there's so many games to choose from there's almost a guarantee that you'll find one you haven't played before. It's fun trying new things out with friends. : ) read more

Popped in for a quick drink and quick board game while we waited for our next appointment. Loads of board games to choose from, well organized by category and name and they even had an ipad you could use to search for the games and location. Menu was short, standard with coffees, alcohol and smoothies. We were informed our quick game would cost us $6 / person, so we declined. Seemed a bit steep to pay $24 for 45 mins of game playing. Instead we just had a drink and left, my chai latte was weak and not very interesting. An option to pay by time would be nice, as it stands now, there is nothing there to bring me back. My family and I went here for the first time last night, we had a great time and the atmosphere was fantastic. The staff knew all the games, our waitress was friendly and prompt, the food was great and very affordable. If you enjoy laughing and talking while eating your dinner this is the place. We will go back for sure!!!! read more

We went there today around 1:15. Management seriously needs to put more staff on. My daughter and I ordered a piece of cake each, a glass of milk and a coffee. We started to play the games (which are cool...some really nostalgic ones for me). Over an hour later...we still had not received our cake, and after asking had yet to receive a refill on my coffee. After an hour and a half we gave up....had to pay for playing games and drinks...but still no cake. Don't know if it's done baking yet read more

My husband and I saw this place featured on One Dish Winnipeg and were stoked to check it out. We arrived and discovered every table had been reserved for the entire evening, so we squatted at a table for about an hour before the reso began. We ordered the charcuterie featured in the ODW video, and it was ok; more meat than cheese and not enough crackers. The selection of games is quite impressive and the atmosphere is open and fresh. While we had a nice time, there were two things that irked us. First, despite spending $50 in food and drink, we were still expected to pay an additional $5 per person gaming fee. This is a policy we feel the owners should revisit, especially when you order a meal and drinks. Second was the constant reminders to vacate the table: 45 mins prior, 30 mins prior, and 20 mins prior. We get it, we are adults, we can tell time, we can read the reservation card on the table, and we already agreed to leave before the group arrived. It kinda felt like we were being shooed out the door. Pretty cool new place and would be fun for a group, just be sure to make a reservation. read more

Overpriced food, overpriced games and unprofessional staff. The food is ridiculously expensive for such small portions. I was looking to buy a new game but I took one look at the price and changed my mind. Way too expensive. The staff are quite unprofessional. Our server awkwardly hovered around our table off and on even when we didn't need anything. I can't believe I wasted my money on something I could do better in the comfort of my own home. read more

This is a really nice venue. Unfortunately, it's too loud for board games. There's a big selection of games to choose from, unfortunately the popular games are in poor condition. Serious collectors put their cards in plastic sleeves; Across the Board should probably do the same thing considering the amount of use they're subject to. I really enjoyed seeing a lot of the old games from the 1980s. The food was beautifully presented, but I didn't try it myself. I really want to like this place, but I can't shake the feeling that playing games at home would be more comfortable and convenient. read more

I have been here about 15 times , only got a table about 8 . It's just that kind of a place , so make a reservation if you want to get in after 6. I started coming here when they first openned ;there was no 3 hour limit but I wondered how they were going to balance making a living and satisfying the average 12 hour Risk fanatics. Looks like making a living won out so be prepared to be given notice more than a few times by your server. (They can't exactly go cold turkey on a gamer ! ) As for the food the Asian rice wraps have been on the menu from the start and have been consistently fresh every time I ordered . I'm also a big fan of the curry , especially with a game of checkers . There is not always a vegetarian option on the soups which can be disappointing but on more than one occasion the chef dug thru the fridge and provided options (an interesting apple squash soup was memorable ) and the effort was much appreciated even if the outcome can sometimes be a little wayward. I give this place 4 stars for effort. This is a genuine independent and sincere sort of place and I think they struggle with the success of having to turn away people and create interesting game nuanced food at a moderate price. But they appear to be in it for all the right reasons and hit more home runs than not. Best tip - Do dinner and a movie at cinematheque which is right across the street. Make reservation for 5:45. Buy tkts in advance for Cinema. Tell the server and game master you need to be at the 7pm movie. I've always had dinner on time including latte and dessert (pumpkin pie was very good ) and the game masters are fantastic at editing the hundreds (literally) of games to a fun few that will fit into your schedule . read more

So the girlfriend and I came here the other day. I want to like and support this place. The atmosphere is nice, the tables perfect for games, and the selection of games is out of this world. Everything from Scrabble to Settlers of Catan to weird and rare and challenging strategy games. You could go a hundred times and not repeat yourself. My only disappointment came when we were slapped with a five dollar gaming fee even after spending more than 40 dollars in food and drink between two of us. The food wasn't super spectacular and neither was the coffee. It's not a place I would go out of my way for in those respects. The gimmick of a board game cafe was what got me and what makes me want to go back. I understand perhaps a charge for folks who just spend a few bucks on a coffee or just want to play without food or drink, but I think dropping it for those who spend a little more cash might be a good idea. Aside from this, the staff was friendly and attentive, the owner seemed very involved and passionate, and the location is great! I'd recommend anyone to check it out. read more
