I chose ACT Asphalt Specialties Co. to replace my concrete driveway because of their 10 years warranty and their salesman told me everything I wanted to hear. After 8 years, one of my 8' x 8' driveway slab and a door step were broken. I contacted ACT Asphalt Specialties Co. They played their warranty policies with me. They did not give me their warranty policies before or after they replaced my driveway. They will not replace my broken driveway slab and door step. Roller marks, cracks, rocks, holes, depressions. 3 other companies came out and looked at it and said they've never seen a job like this before! we had our driveway and apron replaced by ACT 2 years ago. recently the concrete apron has started to crack and break and the edge of the asphalt has started to deteriorate. we have called and emailed multiple times to speak to someone and no one responds to our calls or emails. read more

Very disappointed with my driveway! The appearance is horrible . They did the driveway in a day of rain, and it poured when they finished! The results where lines, pits, patches, rocky edges! There was a particular patch in the center of my driveway which was mist concerning. The owner I will Say responds quickly, as he came to look at my concerns, however did not call prior or knock on my door to discuss. I had to chase him to get him to discuss concerns. He knew I was concerned and upset as I left messages with Barb who answers the phone and sent pictures. I was concerned with mainly the spot in the. Center of the driveway. It was pitted and looked like a swirl from the crew turning their roller incorrectly or something. I was concerned with water and ice breaking this up over the winter as well as the aesthetics! Eric did say much except they would fix it. Well the fix made it worse. Buy beware! Their little pamphlets, which I think as sent after all my complaints says their would be aggregate in areas where it was hand racked, it meantion over time the drive way will blend! Let me tell you - overtime of two weeks my driveway looks worse and worse! And to top it off they waited to long after prepping the driveway. We had a heavy rain. They first day the showed up and we're going to start , I forgot to propensity my garage. Well when I spoke again to Barb to see if they could return she said they could not on another job..... but said they waited for me to get off my meeting but had to leave. She said it was probably ya good thing because one of the guys said he was concerned because the dirt was still wet and muddy from the rain the well before!! So if I would have opened my driveway tgey would have put this down over a compromised base! Now after they tried to fix it, it look like a patched up parking lot! And all of the imperfections have become worse and obvious. I refused to pay my remaining balance and the owner Eric refuse to replace the driveway! His fix is to apply a sealer to hide the imperfections! A sealer on a brand new driveway? And honestly it won't fix the huge blemish in the middle - it will remain an eyesore! Maybe it could have prior to the patch job! What a mess! The owner Eric said I demanded it fixed! Of course I wanted it fixed, and he did not seem to disagree with my concern of the area being compromised as he did not offer any other solutions but to send his guys out!!! Maybe he guys should have talked to me a before this patch - which was heat up the area and smooth out with hot shelves ( my neighbor told me). Eric now sent me a letter and said this is what a driveway looks like and in the spring a sealer would help. He said I need to pay most of the remaining amount and then I'll withhold amount for a sealer, If I do not pay he will lean my house!! I called two other asphalt companies and had them come look one prior and one after- both agreed this is not how a new blacktop driveway should look. A sealer may have helped to fill the pits and with the lines, but the horrible blemish in the middle of my driveway will remain noticeable. And again confurmedca sealer is not need on a new driveway for years! Eric should fix this mess! Not charge me remaining balance of at all! I would not use this business if you want a new driveway! I would never reccomend this comapny after our experience. The saleperson Mike was not receptive to our concerns and blew us off when we had questions. We had our driveway replaced last June 2022 and today its February 11 and our roof is melting. Instead of the water running from drain pipe towards center and down driveway it runs backwards into landscaping rock. Not to mention the oil slicks left in the road and poor grading job. **This is a 2 part review. My wife and I were both negativity impacted by this company so they are getting 2 reviews. We have had so many issues with this company that I don't even know where to begin. We agreed to work with ACT on 8/2/18. As part of the agreement, we sent them a check for $3,475. Within a week of sending them the check, they cashed it & held onto our money for over a month before even beginning to work on our new driveway on 9/18/18. After tearing up our old driveway, there were a lot of days where it rained & so the driveway installation was pushed back until 9/29. The night before installation, there were freezing temperatures. When they arrived the next morning at 7am to begin installation, it was too cold to properly install the driveway. We didn't know this at the time, because we're not supposed to be the experts, but they continued with the driveway installation anyway. Because of how cold it was, they were not able to properly blend in the seams & our driveway looked terrible. There were seams everywhere that were very visible. In fact, we had 2 different groups of people come over later that day & both mentioned how bad our driveway looked. I even had 2 different contractors come out on different days who also stated it was not well done. On top of that, before the asphalt was laid, we pointed out areas where the rain had created erosion on the driveway base & asked that they be flattened out. However, the foreman insisted that no leveling was needed. However, the night after installation, it rained again & there was a big puddle of water where we had told the foreman about the erosion. We knew this had to be fixed because it would eventually lead to pot holes if it wasn't. The crew also cracked some tile in our garage while they were installing the driveway. Lastly, the sides of the driveway were not straight. They looked like a scribble instead of a straight line. Overall, a very ugly new driveway.      I brought this issue to the attention of Joe, who was our salesman. He promised me that a Service Manager would come out to our property the following Monday, 10/1. When Monday came around, I called the office who then told me that the Service Manager, Rod, wouldn't be able to come see us until Thursday. I told the office that if there was any way to have him come out sooner, I would appreciate it because of how much stress this was causing me. They told me that wouldn't be possible.     Once Rod came out to our house, he told me that he had stopped by on an earlier day when it was raining to check out the area on our driveway that was pooling water. I thought it wasn't possible for him to come any earlier? If he was at our house, why didn't he call us so we could talk to him then? Why is he trespassing on our property without our knowledge in the first place? Rod left stating that they would send out a service crew to try & blend out the seams, straighten the edges, & to patch the area that was pooling water. I asked him about getting any money back on the driveway, but he told me that he had no control over that & I would need to talk to Erik, the owner.      That same day, I called the ACT office & asked to speak with Erik. I talked to 2 people who both told me they would leave notes & messages for Erik to call me back. It wasn't until a week later that he finally returned my call. Even during that call, nothing was really accomplished. All he told me is that we would talk again once the repairs were completed. So I waited some more.     The driveway repairs were originally scheduled for 10/11/18. I was only told that they would be to my house sometime in the afternoon. So I cleared my schedule & waited around the house for them. At about 1pm, I called the office to see if we were still on track for that day. Barb told me that I was still on track & there were not issues. So I waited...& waited...& waited. By about 5:15pm, there was still no crew. I started reaching out to my salesman & the office to see what was going on. Joe texted me back saying that the crew ran into car trouble that morning & were 2 hours behind schedule. As a result, they would not be completing the repairs that day. First of all, why was I not informed of this when I spoke with Barb at 1pm? I had a very similar experience as Melinda's post. Delays, excuses, more delays and excuses. Then it was the last possible day due to impending cold weather and they did a so-so job, with seams and poor cosmetics. Now 2 years later, the driveway has a couple of issues that need to be addressed (including a crack across the entire width) yet they won't come out at all. I was told I would "have to wait until next year... I can put you down on the list for next spring, since we stop servicing past customers after Labor Day." Incredible that they would treat their best customers so poorly. I guess they are busy chasing the next sucker willing to spend $10k with them. Terrible. read more

**Part 2: The next morning I called & spoke with Barb who told me that the reason the crew didn't make it to my house was because it was too windy & the torches kept blowing out. Wait a minute...I thought it was because of car trouble? It's hard to trust a company when I'm being told 2 different stories. You would think that they would have made my repairs a priority. Instead, they waited another week before finally coming out for the repairs on 10/18.      When the repair crew came out, Rod (the Service Manager) was with them. He told me that Erik, the owner, had also been to our property without our permission to view the driveway while it was raining. In order to view that section of the driveway, you would have to walk up on our property...you can't view it from the street. I do not appreciate anyone walking on our property without our permission, especially when they know that we want to talk to them. The crew then worked on the repairs. During the repairs, I talked to one of the crew members from ACT who also happened to be on the crew when it was first installed. He told me that it was too cold that day & they probably shouldn't have installed it until it was warmer. He also told me that, since it was a Saturday, they had a smaller crew of people. Normally when it's colder weather conditions, they have 2 steam rollers so that they can blend the seams faster. The combination of it being too cold & having an understaffed team is the reason our driveway now looks as bad as it does.  When they were done, the seams were still there but just slightly different looking, the edge was straightened out, & the area with the pooling water was patched. Now, we still have a new driveway that looks even worse. On top of the ugly seams that are still visible, we now have a horrendous looking patch. I called Erik after the crew had left to continue our discussion, as he had asked for. However, he was still not answering my calls & did not until the following Monday, 10/22.      During our conversation, instead of offering apologies & solutions, he seemed intent on defending his company. He seemed annoyed that he had to deal with a customer. For now, he agreed to give me a free sealcoat the next year. When I asked him about also getting money back, he kept saying he couldn't do that without seeing the driveway first. I then asked him when he would be able to see it, & he responded with "I'm very busy but will get back to you sometime this week." I'm sorry, but no matter how busy you are, you should be making time for your customers in a situation like this. My wife & I have been extremely pleasant & flexible this entire process & I do not feel like the same respect is being paid to us by ACT. Since this conversation has taken place, I have tried getting in contact with Erik for multiple days & he has been ignoring my phone calls. I'm simply trying to get this horrible experience over with, but Erik doesn't think I'm worth his time.  ***7/31/19 update: I'm finally posting this review now that the sealcoat is done. Erik eventually came out to our house & agreed to a minor discount, which is the only reason that they're getting 2 stars instead of one. However, he still wouldn't admit that the work was poor or that the company did anything wrong. I remember asking him, "Would you post this driveway on your website?" He scoffed & said he would. Go look at those pictures & compare them to mine. Based on our experience, I would never recommend this company. read more

Buyer beware, they send out rude and unprofessional personal to do their bids!! I received a visit from (Kent I believe) -he was fresh out of business cards. (No surprise) I told him what I wanted done, then he asked me what my other bids were (none of his business) but I told him one at $3500-$4,000 and the other $7,500, of course he went on about how special their concrete is; they use it on bridges. He said that my estimate would be around $5,500; I stated that I would probably go with the lower bid, but I was going to research each company and the materials, then make up my mind. I asked him for some paperwork and he ripped a corner of paper off what was suppose to be my estimate and wrote $5,500 on it; I said, "Where is your company name and number??" he told me that he wasn't even give me a estimate if I wasn't going to use them! I stated again my plan and then he said he doesn't even want my job after talking to me because I wasn't right for their company.. He goes on to say, "If you want cheap work and cheap concrete call Joesph's Concrete in Saint Paul." Oh, I will surely give them your recommendation, Kent. I changed my plans to meet this whack job at my house, wasted my time and was he completely rude; I've never came across such a unprofessional company like this before! Please share my statement and give Joesph's concrete your money; he did mention that they had 50 years experience.. even though they use cheap concrete with no warranty. Had a driveway installed by A.C.T. in 1997, and it has been such a great investment, in 2017 we hired them to blacktop our one-tenth mile driveway road. The product may cost a bit more than other bids, but you get what you pay for. The road is thick, the edges are beveled, and the workers were very knowledgeable and conscientious. read more
