We hired Richfield black top and concrete for steps and a driveway section. First they tore out, then they replaced the steps 90 degrees off some how. Even though the crew had the company's drawing. They did tear these out and replace them but not without complaint and attempted blame shifting. Then they replaced a large portion of our driveway and it flaked, peeled, and spaled the first winter .No salt was used on it and it saw little actual traffic. They did replace 1/2 of this area at no charge however it is just as bad now. Again no salt and minimal traffic. They did ask us what we think caused it..IDK they are the "experts" They have instructed us to pressure wash and seal the affected area. This "concrete" is not solid enough to withstand much washing... In the end we wasted our home improvement dollars on sub par quality that will not hold up at all. A very poor choice on our part. Had planed on more word for them , but that seems like a stupid move.. read more

Living in Richfield for almost six decades, I wanted to support a Richfield based company. Unfortunately, my experience with this company was a nightmare. I learned a few things from it though that I would like to share with you. The first thing that you need to know about this company is that they do not have their own crew. They subcontract the work out. So the person who came to my door pretending to be the company that I called, was a subcontractor. When I finally realized this, it became clear to me why the communication that I had experienced was so poor. Let me explain. The initial bid was to replace old, cracked concrete steps. I was told that it was necessary to take out a small fence in order to not damage my driveway with their bobcat. In the bid it said that they would take out the fence. In October, I received a voice message from a man saying that he would like to come the following Monday, at 7:30am, and to call if I had questions. I had questions and so I called him twice and left messages. He didn't get back to me and so I called the man who gave me the bid but he didn't get back to me either. After not getting call backs or confirmations, I anxiously hoped and assumed that they would not be coming that day, as I wasn't living at the house and wanted to be there if they did show up. At 8am that morning, I received a call from my daughter telling me that they had been there since 7am. I hurried over and when I arrived, my heart sank. The fence had not been taken down and there were large cracks in my driveway where he had been working. I asked him why he didn't return my phone calls before he started work and why he didn't take out the fence before he took out the concrete. He said that he didn't need to, that he was able to take out the concrete without removing the fence. When I pointed to the cracks, he shrugged and said, "It was dark outside, I couldn't see." He came on a dark, cold October morning, so dark that he couldn't see. And now there were cracks in my driveway. I asked him what he would do about it and he shrugged again and said that I should call the office, that he didn't have anything to do with it. I was confused. I thought that he was the company. If this small fence had simply been taken down, ugly cracks would not have been created with the bobcat. Trying to create beautiful steps for my back yard now only added ugly cracks on the driveway next to the steps. And it was upsetting that he didn't really seem to care. Secondly, another man who gave me the bid wasn't up front with me on the true cost of the project. The bid was to replace old concrete steps with new ones. Cost: $4,500. BUT, apparently when concrete covers up an existing area, it's hard to know if it has footings. If it doesn't, it costs an additional $500 per footing. As I stood there, still heart sick over the new ugly cracks in my driveway, I was told that this project would require four additional footings that were not quoted to me in the initial bid process. That it would cost me an extra $2000 to put in the surrounding steps. I was quite upset. I didn't receive a phone call back from the office until the next day. Sure, they said that they would fill in the cracks at no charge. But the damage was done. The cracks not only look ugly but throughout the winter they have spread. And had I know of the extra expenses, I would not have replaced my steps last fall. I couldn't afford the additional $2000 for the extra step and so as you can see in the picture, this is what I had to step off of all winter. Finally, as you can see in the picture, a design was put in the step that I had not asked for. I don't like it and I wonder if it weakens it. Overall I felt extremely disrespected. I am an older woman. I do not know this type of work and I naively trusted them. I felt taken advantage of. Buyer beware. read more

Said they would be out several times before they finally showed up. When done it was sunk in the middle they said it will be fine in a year. We waited 1 1/2 weeks they said a week to park on the new driveway. We ended up with wheel marks in the asphalt. They said they would be out today to fix it and it's now 5:00pm. Waited all day no phone call saying they don't be coming out or running later nothing!! This company was double the cost of other companies but we decided to go with them because of the reviews! We are not happy with the lack of communication and promising to come out and then don't. And now the divots in the driveway. I've had to miss work to be hear (no pay) to have them not show up again!! I don't recommend this company and will be contacting BBB SOON!! read more

This summer I had Richfield Blacktop prepare an estimate to remove and replace a concrete driveway and sidewalk at a duplex that I own. In the estimate, they clearly mapped out which areas needed to be removed and replaced. They finished the removal and replacement of the driveway quickly, but never repaved the sidewalk area. I sent multiple emails to the manager, asking them when they would be able to complete the job. He never called me back, sent someone out to look at the job, or tried to make it right - he just kept sending me snarky emails about how "his crew doesn't work for free" and how they would only finish the sidewalk for an additional fee. After several weeks of emails back & forth with no resolution, I've given up. I paid for the job in full and only got a half-assed result and terrible customer service from the manager. I would not work with Richfield Blacktop again and would definitely not recommend them. read more

The communication was excellent from the moment of scheduling the bid to the completion of the final cuts in the concrete. Their bid was reasonable and I was able to replace an asphalt driveway with concrete. Due to a few rainy days, we were working with tentative dates and I was kept informed by the office. After they excepted my money for a down payment , they refused contacting me to tell me they wouldn't be doing my driveway. They received a phone call from my next door neighbor who threatened to sue them if they got any material on their property and that we had a property line dispute. These were lies by my neighbor, but they didn't have the decency to call and talk to me. I have survey in hand, but they didn't make any call to me and sent my check back . Very poor ! Would NEVER recommend this company . I give it one star only because it wouldn't let me post otherwise. read more

Richfield Blacktop & Concrete just finished doing our driveway last month and they did a fantastic job! Not only did they come out right away when I asked for a free estimate they scheduled our driveway installation for 2 weeks out and with all the rain kept in contact with us over that time to let us know things were still on schedule. They came out right when they said they would and finished the job exactly like we were told it would be done. Do not hire this company. Read the fine print on their estimates. If they cause damage to your property they are not liable. They damaged our driveway with their bobcat when they tore out our old back steps. They said they fixed it to what they deem appropriate. It's not fixed. When my husband called to talk to they operations manager, Tom, he yelled at him, actually raised his voice. My husband asked him if that's how they treat their customers and he calmed down a bit. But still! That is horrible customer service. On top of that some of the lines in our concrete are wavy. I left a review on their Facebook page. I'll be filing a complaint with the BBB as well. We have another concrete company coming out to look at their work and fix my driveway. If I have to replace any of what they did, they will not be getting the other half of my money. I find it really insulting that not only did these people wake up my family with zero apologies but then lied about it. The City of Minneapolis contacted me and they told them they didn't start until 7 am. The only thing worse than a business that doesn't care about the neighborhoods they do business is is a business filled with liars. Clearly they started before 7 am or I wouldn't have complained. The guy who was running the heavy equipment made it a point to tell me "they usually arrive much earlier." Don't use this business. This place is awful. Note to Richfield Blacktop: Please don't post any more lies. You didn't attempt to contact me. I gave you my cell phone number and it hasn't changed for 10 years. You never called and you lied about when the work started. I've heard plenty from your business. I won't use you and I will let everyone I know who is looking for services you provide not to use your company. read more

Worst place. To get your concrete work done, look for someone else. They don't know what they are doing. I don't even know how they got a+ at bbb. Maybe paying then off. The work they did break apart just after 6 months and still waiting for then to come and fix it after a year. read more

RBC is a highly professional outfit made up of family members and mostly long-time mature employees who take pride in their craft. These guys are a breath of fresh air in an era of over-priced, shoddy construction work. RBC is a well-oiled machine. They hit the job site and worked like a swarm of bees pouring my blacktop drive. They arrived in three waves: estimate, prep and pour. The scheduler worked with me to set times around other work I was doing. The prep crew was consisted of employees in their 20s and 30s with an older leader who kept everyone busy and ran the equipment with finesse. I was impressed when he jumped off his Bobcat to scrape dirt and rock off the alley. If you were a worker on the crew, you'd be embarrassed to be standing around doing nothing in his presence. In no time, they had my old driveway removed and graded. When uncertainty arose about whether they were supposed to prep a certain area, the lead man made a call and in less than 5 minutes resolved the issue based on what I had agreed to with the estimator. No bullshit whatsoever. When he was done grading, one of the workers checked the grade with a long metal "2 x 4", and it was right on. They cleaned up all the dirt and rock in the alley and neighbor's driveway with a Stihl scrubber. The pour crew was really something to watch. They flew around the drive, and had the blacktop poured in a jiffy and spent most of the time skating, tamping and rolling out the surface so it was level even to my graphic design trained eye. They gave me a booklet explaining how to avoid problems with blacktop while it cured and how to care and maintain it over the coming years. The pour crew also cleaned every bit of loose blacktop off of the alley, sidewalk and neighbor's driveway. And they put up yellow tape to keep people off the drive. In short, these guys deserve the great reputation they've built. As Yelp's five-star rating indicates: "Woohoo! As good as it gets!" Don't bother to call anyone else. They provide excellent workmanship for a fair price. read more

They were quick to response and come to give an estimate. After discussing several options for a patio and front steps, the representative was honest enough to tell us we could save $4000 by not replacing our perfectly fine front steps. He even gave us a referral to another company for a less expensive option to restore the steps. The guy on the actual job did a great job of prepping and pouring our new front patio. We did have an issue with the communication between the guy who drew the picture with measurements not being clear for the guy doing the actual work. They fixed it promptly prior to pouring the concrete. We also had a slight misunderstanding with the orders to fix the retaining wall they had to partially disassemble to make the steps from the patio to the driveway. In the end, my husband completed that job and the company gave us a discount. We are happy with the results and would recommend them, but with the suggestion that all is clear with measurements and instructions. read more
