Sadly, this meant that we had precious little time to get these trees taken down before the beetle spread to the neighboring trees. I made a few calls around the area for a tree service, and settled on Matt's for several reasons: 1) His crew. All local guys. All insured & properly trained (one guy is even a former Forest Service firefighter) 2) The equipment. Matt has a gigantic chipper that can handle 18" diameter wood. This meant that they could just feed the trees directly in, without having to cut them into smaller pieces first. Saved a lot on labor. 3) Honesty / attitude. Matt was very up-front and honest about the charges and estimate of time. In fact, he over-estimated by a little, so it turned out cheaper than he said. These guys worked SUPER fast. In about two hours, they had cut down five trees, hauled the wood up the side of the mountain to the chipper, chipped the wood and spread it over the mountainside (kills the beetle, and is great fertilizer), and thoroughly cleaned up all the sawdust and scraps. They all looked like they really enjoyed what they do (probably why they worked so fast). I'd highly recommend them to anyone in the area.
