For…read more26 years, they have hosted a magnificent look at small-town America, right here in one of the most liberal towns in the whole country. My two Australian guests could not get enough. Everyone in town gathers at the high school football field for a huge picnic: There are potato sack races for the kids (everyone gets a prize), a moon walk, food stands, a band, dancing, a flag parade, a raffle, an ambitious teenager leading us all in a jazzy, even MORE impossible to sing version of the "Star Spangled Banner," and best of all, fireworks. Not only is it a fabulous experience, but the Kiwanis use the profits to donate to their various local charities. I don't go every year, but I love it when I do.

I think having mandatory caddies really help with the upkeep. Our group's caddies were Keith and Eric. Each caddy manages 2 bags. I suppose you can get a caddy for yourself, but I haven't played in months. This was just a chance to hangout with friends that I haven't seen so my game was below average. We played from the middle tees which is 6,156 yards with a 71.0/138 rating/slope. Pretty respectable for member's tees! After the round we enjoyed a nice Riesling wine accompanied with cheese and various small bites. I recommend sitting outdoor so you can take in the spectacular view. Their locker room is top notch complete with showers, steam room, toiletries and friendly staff to clean your shoes. I hosted numerous business meetings and events there as well as friend & family meals. The Staff go out of their way to make everyone feel special and every need attended to. The members are very friendly and welcoming. The grounds and buildings are kept in impeccable condition. I would highly recommend this Club which has so much to offer for those who maybe like me aren't golfers.

The only thing that bothered me is their irrational decision-making process. The acoustics in the building are so atrocious that, if there's music in one event room, people can't hear the speaker or each other in the other gathering room. So I found some clean, undamaged foam boards and asked whether they'd like them. They said yes, and I brought them in to cover the glass door to one of the rooms. Then someone they'd known longer came along and opined that SEEING styrofoam would cause people to buy it, and they threw it into the dumpster. So now they still have rotten sound, and those foam boards will be leaching toxins into the ground until Earth falls back into the sun.

It's a great nonprofit with a whole lot of heart. They sell fruits and veggies to the public and on…read morea sliding scale. They organize opportunities for people to help harvest, extra surplus from peoples houses and then donate it to local food centers around the area. They also sell plant starts two times a year which helps fund their efforts. I have volunteered for them in their cleaning efforts and on their plant sale days, and everyone is courteous, kind and display the passion they have for being a part of a solution to needs in our area. My plant starts have always done really well and I like shopping with them every year, too!

I've seen a number of his works before at the Crocker Art Museum in Sacramento, but several of the pieces on display today were new to me--such a treat to experience different works up close. The gift shop is small yet thoughtfully curated, featuring items inspired by the current exhibit along with creations by talented local artisans. Admission is very reasonable, and students receive discounted entry at just $10. Donations are also warmly welcomed and help support this wonderful community art space.
