    A charming creek side hike!
    Sabrina A.

Like hiking? How about wine? Then Active Wine Adventures is what you're looking for. This last weekend, my husband and I opted for the easy hike which lasted about an hour and forty five minutes. It followed along a charming creek and Sorel was a great guide, stopping for breaks, tidbits of knowledge and photos. After, he dropped us off for lunch at a beautiful restaurant, Brasswood, which had great food and even an art gallery in the back. Finally, Sorel took us to an organic winery (almost reading my mind!) which was amazing. The location was scenic and the wine was incredible. So much so, I came away with a few bottles (rare for me), but with almost all of the proceeds going to charity, it was another reason to buy more delicious wine. Overall, Sorel was a personal guide with excellent taste. As a couple who travel to Napa about once a year, this was a wonderful way to experience a different side of Napa.

Booked the art & wine tour with Active Wine Adventures for my birthday celebration with my boyfriend and we had an amazing time! Loved that it was a private tour and Sorel really made it feel like a VIP experience. The car was very clean and he had safety shields up and sanitizer after every stop. We went to 2 beautiful wine tastings and had a really yummy lunch. It was hassle free because he set up everything for us and sent over the itinerary before our tour so we knew what was going on! We even had a little bit of extra time, during which he took us through Yountville to see some of their art walk. It was also a nice touch that he took photos of us during our tour and emailed them to me after. I highly recommend booking one of his tours if you're looking for an upscale experience in Napa for a reasonable price. I will be booking one of his other tours in the future!

We booked Active Wine Adventures for a 1 day tour visiting 3 vineyards. We were blown away!!! Truly such a fantastic experience. From the beginning stages of planning, Sorel was quick at responding to emails, very easy to talk to on the phone, and patient as we filled out our paperwork. He planned a truly unforgettable day for us and we were smiling & laughing the entire time. He offers so many tour options and we cannot wait to book some of his other experiences next time we are in town. A+++ in our books. THANK YOU SOREL!!!

We had an amazing experience with Active Wine Adventures! We took the Napa Ultra Adventure #2 which was an 8 mile hike, lunch, and private wine tasting. Everything about it was top-notch! The tour guide and owner, Sorel, was amazing...very knowledgeable and friendly. He makes all the arrangements, you just show up and have a great time!

We had no idea what to expect going in, but we were extremely happy to see such a cute and intimate set up! The host, Jennifer, planned this night SO WELL. She had macaroons, cookies, coffee/tea for us to enjoy, with relaxing music playing in the background. Jennifer also had a massage therapist, Anna, join and offer each of us a massage (amazing!). As for the activity itself, the watercolor painting was really fun and relaxing to do. We were able to turn our watercolor art into cute bookmarks. (Stickers, hole punchers, and tassels were all provided!) On top of everything provided, we even got a small gift bag to take at the end of the night. What imagination and creativity! I loved photographing each one. There was one house with tons of artwork. The entire front yard is adorned with them and I wondered if this is where the artist lives. Sure enough there were pamphlets near the sidewalk and that's when I learned that the artist is Patrick Amiot. His spouse, Brigitte Laurent, paints his works of art. He calls his creations Urban Folk Art. Some are quite huge but all are very unique and original. What an entertaining way to reuse metal. For feathers and scales, we noticed he layers flat jar lids and they look amazing after they've been painted. My favorite was (Buster) Posey and the two owls but there were so many we both loved. I drive up this street regularly but it is definitely worth it to park and take a closer look. Florence Avenue is like the artist's outdoor studio. It's a manageable and worthwhile leisurely stroll. You will see other metal sculptures around town by this artist and I happened to know that Mom's Apple Pie on Gravenstein Highway has one now too so I included a photo of it. Such fun whimsical creations!

I feel a responsibility to include as much as possible in this 10 -day tour. This is why I suggest that people schedule extra travel days before and after the tour, as there is so much to see and do in Moscow and St. Petersburg. There should have been no surprise about the itinerary; it was published months before the tour and the final itinerary was emailed to everyone prior to departure. I am glad that you and your friend took my recommendation to add extra days so you'd have time to shop. I want to remind you that we did have a welcome reception, to which you and your friend never showed up. We also had a farewell lunch and I have some lovely pictures of you and your friend having a grand time. Later that evening, the entire group got together for a farewell dinner which you did not attend, as you and your friend had made prior arrangements to go to the theater. There was great camaraderie among the other members of the group, which can be seen by the lovely recommendation letters they wrote (http://www.russianarttour.com/recomendations/). I would also like to remind you that running a group smoothly with a full itinerary involves everyone showing up on time. When, prior to the beginning of the tour, you and your friend chose to stay at a different hotel from the rest of the group, I stressed how important it was that you meet the group on time for planned activities. Yet, the two of you were consistently late. In fact, you two were so late to the dinner prior to the Bolshoi Theatre that we almost missed the performance. With regard to the use of an iPad, this part is true. When I hired the head docent of the Russian Museum to give me a private tour she brought a handful of visual aids. I thought it was so smart that I started incorporating them into my lectures. When you're discussing art in five huge museums with over 2,000 artists and thousands of paintings, it is much easier to put these items on a iPad then to carry paper. The visuals aids that I use include compositional and color charts. The ones I created for Ilya Repin's early work can be seen on my blog - http://cathylockeartblog.com/repin-his-early-work/. My blog is followed by over 50,000 people; there certainly must be something of value there. Not every tour works for everybody. Sorry this wasn't the right tour for you.

If you have any interest/knowledge of art and are well-traveled, DO NOT take this tour. Cathy L, tour leader's knowledge of art history is cursory; she uses an iPad to explain the art; shockingly mispronounces old masters' names (Titan for Titian; Tintinoretto for Tintoretto, etc.) She did not promote group camaraderie (there was no welcome dinner/reception so we could meet our fellow travelers; and no farewell dinner/reception) and she was a poor communicator relating daily activities. Moscow and St. Petersburg were cities my friend and I spoke about many times, because of the exceptional art and art museums, and thought we had found the perfect art tour; we were wrong. On a positive note: Moscow/St. Petersburg were wonderful cities with much to see; our local tour guides (Elena and Eugenia) were accommodating and knowledgeable (thank goodness for them) and the art museums in both cities were spectacular. We visited in July 2014; this review is for an 8 day tour.
