I have spent most of my life as a martial artist training alongside Derek Morris Sensei. Though the Hidden Dojo/Shindenkan Budo stays true to it's Japanese roots, I find it to be the most well rounded/open minded school I've ever had the pleasure of training with. Training methods span the globe using elements from many styles of martial arts. The Hidden Dojo goes beyond the "teacher say... student do" method of teaching. Careful instruction ensures a path towards continued learning. However, students will also find that they learn from each other. Students are led to discover the details of a technique and at every level discover more about what once seemed basic. Several times a year, students are given opportunities to train amongst the highest ranked instructors as well as the heads of our arts. Such unique experiences often take place right in Lancaster, but also offer an opportunity to train across the country as well as in Canada, Europe and Japan. Though students of the Hidden Dojo/Shindenkan Budo develop physical skills, they also cultivate strong character, mindful living, and creative thinking. The Hidden Dojo is a humble dojo. But high quality martial arts, high quality instructors turning out high quality people... that's what they are about. As an instructor I hope to model my school after the school that has given so much to me. JP Mamaril Sensei - Dojo-cho Saratoga Budo/Shinsenkan Budo Saratoga Springs, NY

But, I've noticed on certain days the talking amongst the parents has gotten worse. It's super annoying and disrespectful and it's disturbing the flow of the class. Very disappointed. I'm going to look elsewhere. Again the low star rating is for the talkative loud parents and management not doing anything about it.

The instructors are not only highly skilled martial artists but also outstanding mentors who truly care about each student's growth--both on and off the mat. From a teacher's perspective, I see firsthand how the lessons learned in class--respect, perseverance, and self-control--carry over into academics and social interactions. My child has become more responsible with homework, listens attentively, and shows greater patience when working through challenges. The environment at Quartz Hill Karate is welcoming, structured, and positive. Whether your child is looking to build self-defense skills, improve focus, or simply gain a sense of community, this is the place to be. I highly recommend it to any parent looking for a program that nurtures both physical and personal development!

I have attended other karate establishments, but I have never found anything matching the quality of instruction that I receive here. Master Quinlan teaches practical, useful karate and self-defense and belts are earned, not given. In the last three years, I have seen my kid's confidence in themselves grow tremendously as well as my own, and as a father I am beginning to feel confidence in my children's ability to protect themselves in dangerous situations, even at their age. One of the things I respect most about Master Quinlan is that he holds his students accountable, holds them to high standards, and yet maintains such a good rapport among them. As a high school teacher, I understand the difficulty of being able to maintain both high standards and good relationships, but he does an exceptional job at both. Another thing that I respect about Master Quinlan from the perspective of a teacher, is that, just as a good school teacher differentiates instruction for students with different needs, so does Master Quinlan. I have never seen him refuse any student that wants to learn, but rather meet students where they are with the goal of simply making them better, one step at a time. I would highly recommend Quartz Hill Karate to anyone, young and old.

He joined last year, and since then he's also started Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu--and the growth we've seen in him has been incredible. He's much more confident now than when he first started, and seeing him walk into class proud, motivated, and excited is something I'll never take for granted. Because of how positive and welcoming the environment is, my partner and I decided to join the dojo as well. From day one, we felt supported and encouraged. Master Prager is genuinely kind, patient, and amazing with kids. He leads with care and respect, and it truly shows in the students. The other instructors and coaches are just as amazing--always friendly, helpful, and encouraging us every step of the way. One of the most meaningful parts of our experience has been the sense of community. I've made real friendships with other parents as well as with the people in my adult class. We truly share a love for martial arts and a desire to help each other improve, grow, and succeed. That kind of support and connection is rare and incredibly special. The Edge Martial Arts is more than just a dojo--it's a community that builds confidence, discipline, and genuine relationships. We feel lucky to be part of it and wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone looking for a positive, uplifting place for themselves or their family. It's a place I truly believe in and want to see continue to grow.
