Visiting from out of town and was still able to come to this location even though I have a membership in another city. Friendly front staff. I thought it was going to be bigger than what it was. Very clean and the locker room was very clean as well. That's always good. Wish there were bigger lockers and more weight rooms? I only saw one weight room. Honestly best place in town for a family or individual to get a gym membership! First off they've got two killer heated pools inside and are centrally located and right off the freeway. They've got Pilates, yoga, Zumba, cycling classes and a full gym including child care. There's a ton more but for the price I just don't think you can beat it. Ok, read most of the reviews. I have belonged for several months. Usually go around 9 or 10 am, or between 1 and 4 pm. I have also continually belonged to 24 Hour Fitness for the last I don't know, maybe 30 years; I pay $12/month. It is mainly 20 year olds who work there and one manager. They all seem nice enough. I really do not interact with them though. The two long pools are usually empty or few swimmers in them. They look clean but, I have never gone in them. Have never taken a class of any kind. Really rarely seen a class being given. I go for the weight and cardio room. Usually less than ten people in the weight/cardio room. Most of the time when I am there, maybe 3 to 6 other people. The equipment is always well functioning. The gym is unbelievably clean. For me, the hours are fine. Although if I could change anything, instead of closing at 11 am on Sats stay open to 4 or 5 pm. Instead of closing on Sundays, open to 11 or 12. This is why I keep my 24 hr fitness membership. Sometimes I want to go on the weekend. So when that happens, I might bring myself to going to the filthy crowded 24 hr gym. The Y is frequently arranging blood drives and very frequently providing no cost food for members of our community. So this is my review of the Y, where I pay $40 a month for what I feel is a real bargain. read more

What can I say? I love this place and I'm not alone. Many of us who live out here love this place. We have a lot of fun here. A lot of family time and a lot of friends from Alan Valley. Not good if you want to swim laps! Facility is always clean, friendly staff, lifeguards are awesome! The pools and locker rooms are very nice. Only problem is they take up to 4 reservations for a lap lane. It's impossible to swim laps with more than 2 people unless they all swim at the same speeds and I suppose if they swam around the lane in order it could be done? Having to be focused on where the other swimmers are in your lane takes the relaxation away, and creates stress! I am very disappointed in this change, it is not what I signed up for, I only want to swim. read more

How wonderful they returned to their former hours that allowed all of the community to enjoy their facility. Oops - nope. I went to rejoin after stopping membership when they curtailed hours to stop providing facilities mid day - when many seniors utilize this facility. I was so excited. Until the gentleman informed me the pool was still restricted - closed mid day.It is too bad this facility is more concerned with making a profit instead of serving its community. read more

Great place as long as you don't break a sweat while working out. I am RELIGOUS about wiping down the machines and equipment after I use them. Yet, that doesn't stop the Director from making a scene embarrassing me in front of the entire gym for leaving a puddle under a cycle. The puddle, that I had wiped with both paper towels and sanitizer. Needless to say, I haven't been back, won't be going back either. Maybe that's how they keep the crowds down. read more

This place deserves zero stars not t one. To start, the staff is definitely not friendly nor pleasant. The ladies, including the manager of the children supervision area, don't do anything at all, they seat around to talk while the kids play by themselves... they act as if they are actually watching your kids when you go into the room. My son told me that one of the ladies screamed at them. The pool is absolutely disgusting!!! Let's start with saying that I am very disappointed. I thought this place was truly wonderful, and I still think highly of the workers--especially those who do the child care. I was having some trouble with making time to come in, and a notice that their reduced-prices for low income families needed to be updated was the reason for my last visit on April 28th of this year to suspend my membership. I was informed by the kind man who took care of my suspension that it would be for 90 days, so I thanked him and left. Fast forward to a few days ago when I noticed a charge for the full-price membership (I mentioned the low-income?) of $62 for my toddler and I. I went in today to try and have it responded--after all, I was on a 90 day suspension, so why had I been charged? Another man helped me, and was very sweet, though it was glaringly apparent that he could or would do nothing for me, despite his best efforts. He brought out my file and showed me the paper with blacked out and re-written dates. At the prior meeting, I had been informed that their process for suspending or cancelling memberships has to do with the date of sign up, and as such it would be based off of the 16th of the month following the due payment, and that a correction would need to be made. I agreed, and we discussed the amount of days for suspension. I was certainly very surprised to see what dates were written in when I saw the paper again today. Today's employee offered to check with his supervisor to see if there was anything that could be done, and came back informing me that if I didn't have a copy of the paper with different dates, there was nothing he could do. I assume he spoke to his supervisor, but for all I am aware, he may have simply gone into the office and come back out, for the "supervisor" was nowhere to be seen. There was no offer of help, no offer of applying the payment I couldn't afford to months later, and a flat refusal for a refund. I have not been to the gym since at least April, and had planned to return once my schedule had become less hectic and my pay checks more favorable, but this was the nail in the coffin. I will not be returning, and highly recommend that if you are considering this place, to think again. I have no trust for this company, as is the case with any company that would charge a person's card without their consent or knowledge. I am so dejected because my son really loved this place. read more

We enrolled our 4 year old son in the stage 1 swim class & we've been very happy with it! The 1st two classes, he wanted nothing to do with it & mostly clung to the glass (which I had a feeling would happen). The lifeguards & instructors were still so great & patient with him. By the 3rd he was a little better, & from then forward; wow what a difference! He's so excited to participate & always eagerly jumps into the instructors arms when it's his turn to practice. We definitely plan to continue him into the stage 2 class! We're so impressed by the facility that we joined as a family. My husband & I utilize the gym & open swim. Equipment is new, the facility overall is clean, & the staff has been great since day 1. Always smiling, always friendly. Definitely a good experience here so far. read more

Part of my regular routine is to spend a half hour or so on one of the exercise bikes, Watching the TV while doing this really helps pass the time, HOWEVER, only one of the six bikes has a working TV signal I have been complaining about this to the staff for MONTHS and it never gets fixed. read more

Post-COVID-19, the hours have been cut back to just 19 A WEEK! They are only open from 4-7 p.m. M-F and 8 to 12 noon on Saturdays, and closed Sundays. All exercise classes have been eliminated. But the membership dues remain the same. They can't (or won't?) tell us when full normal operating hours will resume. Supposedly "when membership picks up." But if hours aren't increased and classes resumed, how will they attract membership? By not being open all day, they've run off the retirees and families who were the backbone of their membership. They reopened on May 10, which was welcome. However, they closed again from June 5-13 to tent for termites. And now we find out that the pool will be closed through June 28! So they reopened and got members to reactivate their memberships, even though they knew full well they'd have to shut down the entire facility for 9 days and the pool area for at least 24 days. They gave us only one week's notice, preventing us from putting our memberships on hiatus (which requires a 30-day notice). So we could only swim for 6 days in June, but were expected to pay an entire month's dues. That left a bad taste in my mouth. I want to swim in the morning rather than wait until late afternoon, and I want to do water aerobics, neither of which will be possible in the foreseeable future. So I joined another fitness facility. I'm paying less than I would at the Y, and it--unlike the Y--also has a whirlpool, sauna, and steam room. If the Y ever fully reopens, it's a good choice for families and retirees. They offer swimming lessons, and their child care seems secure. They offer sliding scale memberships for people of limited means, which is commendable. (Some of the area's homeless belong too; they never give anyone any trouble, and it allows them the dignity of bathing.) But if you're actually interested in maintaining a swimming program, look elsewhere, because they shut the pool down without warning for weeks at a time. And be sure to lock your locker, because members have been known to help themselves to your possessions. read more

I don't now how this place stays in business. The mandatory 30 day advance notice requirement for cancelation is ludicrous because they offer a very limited amount of classes. In my case I need children's swimming classes during after school hours, the YMCA only has 1 class and it is at 1PM in the afternoon. There is no printed schedule for children's swimming, only available online. So even though classes are not available, one needs to pay for an entire month with no classes before cancellation. This of course is topped by the 5 dollar fee per key card replacement. read more

Very nice facility. Remarkably up to date with clean new machines, lots of interesting classes, etc. Indoor and outdoor exercise opportunities, nice aquatic area. I think this is probably a good deal for families or for people whose household income is below $50,000, as there are deals for them. For an individual, the membership is pretty pricy. read more

We've had a family membership for the Y for several years. Two of the girls have played soccer through the Y and had a fun. They have taken swim lessons here for a couple years and have had a blast every time. They took a mma class and judo class and enjoyed themselves. The wife and I finally started making use of thier gym facilities several months ago. We had the membership but never used the Y for ourselves. I have grown to really like thier gym and I try and go as often as I can. It is not a huge facility but they have enough equipment to get a nice full workout. From free weights, to isolation machines, to a variety of treadmills and ellipticals, there are plenty of options to choose from. I typically go late before closing time and there are definitely less people there than earlier in the day. The have a kid's playroom/day care where you can leave the kid's while your workout. This is definitely a nice option for us and our three girls usually have fun there. There are lots of things to keep them busy while we get our workout on. Aside from the gym they offer a variety of classes if that's more your thing. They also have locker rooms and showers. One thing I really like is that the place is super clean. When I'm there late, there are always workers cleaning the rooms, wiping everything down, and mopping the floors. I see them every night I'm there, and I mean every night. The Y is an awesome place for the whole family, and I'm sure we will be members for a long time to come. read more

I thank them every morning on my way out for making coffee, a.k.a. "The Nectar of the Gods"! The kids love coming here and my two year old cries when she doesn't get to come. I enjoy coming here for the exercise equipment, mainly the elliptical, and yoga classes. It's easy to get in and out of since it's so close to the freeway. The facility is clean and the equipment is in good condition. If the showers were always hot, I'd give them 5 stars. But there are mornings it's too cold to use. Also, the locker room can have a moldy smell some days. read more

I love this gym. It's great for families and I really trust the staff in keeping my son safe while I am working out. The rates are fair, especially for those with kids. I've never had an issue with billing, its always the same day of the month. Never once has my account been debited without factoring in my veteran discount. 24 hour fitness costs more and the child care isn't even factored in at their rates. For anybody who has the extra money to go to the gym its a great asset for your family. read more

Went in today to see about re-joining and brought in my original membership papers. My husband and I were one of the original 99 members (plaque on the wall...blah blah blah) ...which never happened. I wanted to see how much it would be. I was told this membership expired and if I came in on Wednesday I would not have to pay for signing up. I was told if my husband and I would sign up together because he was a veteran it would be so much. They did not want to work with me one bit! When I asked to see the manager, the guy was talking to her to probably say there was an obnoxious person out front. When I heard her talking for him to come out and say something to me, I said I would just leave, last time I went in, a few months back, I left a message for the manager to call me back.. the manager never did. I will never go back to the YMCA! Poor customer service. read more

I am a charter member of this Y and loved every minute of my membership. The classes are great! I love water aerobics with Denise and riding the bike in the gym. The reason I am giving it three stars is their membership policy. I had my granddaughter in swim lessons last year at 6 months old. They added her to my membership but did not charge me as she was only taking swimming lessons. This year at 18 months I go in to sign her up for swim lessons and they tell me I have to pay an extra $30 a month for her to be a member and to then pay for the swimming lessons. I don't feel she will really utilize the rest of the gym to make it worth the extra money per month lol. Its a shame and I am considering cancelling my membership. read more

This is a great gym with a good staff. The managers are awesome, the desk people are polite and friendly, and the people in the gym are actually cool... at least the ones over the age of 18. That's kids, though: they ruin lives, and the god thing is that it looks like the child and tween care rooms are stocked well and staffed with great people. There's rarely a wait for machines, and everything is very well maintained. Coming to the Lancaster Y is like taking a little vacation from the AV. Its a beutiful facility but the employees and volunteers are not customer friendly. Dont return calls and are rarely available to take calls. Director is very lax and does not sound receptive. Makes excuses for his people instead of making you feel like whatever issue you had is resolved. One time i showed up to speak with someone who wouldnt return my calls and they were gone. Which is fine but i just watched the phone ring as an employee or volunteer just sat at her desk. Mind you i had called while i was on my way to make sure the person i wanted to see was there. The facility is clean and and nice. The staff is friendly, although they don't always answer the phone. Swim instructions....David is the absolute BEST! If I was just rating HIM, I would have given the max stars. The group lessons leave something to be desired though. An instructor let my 4 yr old drop to the bottom in order to "teach her a lesson". Needless to say, that's when I switched to private lessons with David. By the second lesson she was jumping in the water to him and not crying/being tramatized. read more

I went as a guest to try out the yoga class. I checked out the day care to see if it was suitable for my 11 month old son. They reassured me they would keep a close eye on him and make sure nothing went in his mouth, and all the stuff you should be aware of when you watch a small child. I went back to the day care 40 min later and he was being held by one of the staff members in the day care, They payed so little attention that they had no idea he had been chewing on a crayon for who knows how long. They were very unprofessional about it and gave me a ripped piece of computer paper to write and incident report on. I think they need more certified people working in the day care facility. read more

At first, my hubby and I really enjoyed going to this gym. We loved the support we received from Ruth (one of the onsite trainers) and the program installed on the machines really helped to encourage us to do more cardio and weight lift since it kept track of all of our fitness activity; it also allowed us to generate points and redeem rewards like T-Shirts. In addition, the activity classes weren't always so full, making it possible to move around more freely and get a good enough work out. I love that the location was always kept clean and it was filled with members who were there to work out not like some other gyms were you have men just gawking at you while you shake your butt in Zumba. So the downside....well, we have a child with Autism and he is pretty manageable...however, the not-so-trained personnel in the tween activity room kicked him out without much reason. It was a big deal for us because we do pretty much everything as a family, and I don't step foot back into somewhere where my children are not well taken care of or welcomed. We received apologies from the manager and was told that the staff member was scolded for mishandling the situation but unfortunately, the apology came a bit too late. read more
