My care with Bob Doane and the Acupuncture & Wellness Center staff began over 20 years ago. I whole heartedly give them 10 gold stars for superb health care. I have 100% trust and faith in Bob Doane and his staff to provide the highest quality acupuncture treatments and Chinese herbs. A few years ago I had a severe MRSA infection that was healed from the inside out by acupuncture treatments and Chinese herbs WITHOUT surgery or pharmaceuticals!!! Over 30 years ago I ended up with a severe circulation impairment in my lower leg and other skin and tissue issues following a botched knee surgery. I was told by medical professionals that there was no way to fix it short of amputation! Guess what? I tried acupuncture treatments and proper circulation returned to my leg and today I still enjoy the benefits of two legs. If I were ever diagnosed with cancer or some other serious health condition I would NOT go to an oncologist or specialist first... I would go to Bob and have him perform his pulse diagnosis. I would then go through a series of acupuncture treatments and herbs to see how my condition was doing following those treatments. If, at that time, Bob said I should see an oncologist or other specialist then I would do that. However, I would also continue the acupuncture and herbs as an adjunct to health and healing during that time. Western medicine, as we know it, has been around for a few hundred years. Chinese medicine has been around for several thousand years and is still relevant today. Unfortunately, pharmaceutical companies control the medical schools' curriculum and so doctors are only taught how to give pills. Thus, modern medicines that are based on chemicals are prescribed. Before there were pharmaceutical companies, our early ancestors relied on healers who used plants for healing. I am a proponent of supplements, herbs, and other forms of holistic healing such as chiropractic adjustments. I am firmly opposed to being prescribed pills as a first resort that can have anywhere from 10-35 side effects per prescription to which you will then require additional pharmaceutical pills to handle those side effects, and thus this pharmaceutical hamster wheel process goes on and on and on. As we know it, is our Western medicine the only way to get healthy? I say no! Give acupuncture and Chinese herbs a try. You owe it to yourself and your family. Bob potentially saved my life. I'm super fit and healthy for my age so had no idea I had severe coronary arterial calcification. I didn't want to believe it but Bob insisted I get a CT heart calcium test. That came back over 3x above what is considered high. His pulse diagnosis was accurate about that and many other things. I thought I felt great but after 5 weeks of Chinese herbs I have way more energy and feel like I am getting younger. This business is set up to make you think there is something wrong with you and then charge you $5000 to start taking their tea on their so-called specialty program. I was really disappointed with the experience that I had with the doctor because I first when meeting him I agreed to come to his clinic because he seemed so professional. But after speaking to him for about an hour, I realized that he has a whole sketchy way of trying to get your money. He even will ask you for your credit card in the consultation. I have been taking herbs from Robert Doane since September - for a total of about nine months now and am winding down from taking them. After a few initial in-person visits where my pulse was diagnosed, most 'treatments' have involved phone conversations where I have answered questions and the herbal 'concoction' has been tweaked by Doane accordingly. There have been times where I could actually feel the ingestion of the herbs and my body incorporating them. As I had not had much in the way of expenses for Western medical treatments, I was willing to pay for these rather expensive herbs. However, being a Qigong instructor and student of Eastern medicine, it is where my faith lies and where I felt worth putting my resources. A recent femur fracture resulted in a new batch of herbs to help heal the bones. I believe Bob has a real gift and incredible knowledge in being an herbalist and appreciate what the herbs have done for my body. I received a consultation with Bob although I thought my appointment was for New Accupucture patient. I spent a half hour filling out paper work in the waiting area, only to find out during the appointment he had not reviewed my history at all. He did how ever talk about himself for a good five minutes. His past in the oil business. Traveling the world on his sail boat. During the consultation he "read" my pulse and proceeded to say some really awful things. He asked "if I had ever been pregnant" I said no. He replied with "if you had gotten pregnant you would have lost the baby." Who says that? I could have been trying to get pregnant for all he knew. He didn't ask me anything about my medical history or struggles. Just looked at me and felt my arm. Bob also wanted around $4000.00 up front to begin his herbal plan for health and weight loss. When I was obviously hesitant to be his patient, he asked his assistant to "rework" the proposal for less taking out some of the plan to lower the cost. It felt like he was selling me a used car. When I continued to hesitate, Bob said "just put it on a few credit cards." I was very shook by the whole interaction. Bob made me feel less then human, more of a commodity and an ends to a mean. I did finally get to have Accupucture with his wife and that was pretty good. Although ultimately did not improve my migraines. So I stoped going. Needless to say I have not been back. read more

Bob first helped my wife significantly improve several health issues. I accompanied my wife on one of her visits and Bob read my pulse. He detected some circulation issues and atherosclerosis that was serious enough to recommend treatment (I had previously undergone Lifeline Screening that indicated the same thing). Based on my wife's success, I agreed to treatment and also asked for help with general body aches and pains (I'm over 70), anxiety, longtime Gerd and hypertension. I can say after 6 months of herbal treatments my body aches and stiffness are completely gone, my blood pressure is now well within normal range, my Gerd is vastly improved and my anxiety level way down. What 'Dr Bob' is doing is harmful and manipulative. I could have just taken my refund and walked away but the lasting impact of what he tried to do to me makes me want to warn other vulnerable people. I went into AWC for an acupuncture consultation. I was excited to try acupuncture. A lot of friends had recommended it during my pregnancy for some back pain and relaxation. I'm postpartum now and felt like I finally had the time to go try. When I arrived at the AWC first thing that stood out to me was everyone was in medical scrubs. I thought that was a nice professional touch. Unfortunately, the more I learned about 'Dr. Bob' the more I think it upholds this man's air of legitimacy. I waited to go in, assuming I'd be taken into a room with some sort of table to lay and be asked about my physical pain. However, I was taken into a small office with a plastic window between me and this older maskless man. When I sat down I expected to go over the big packet of paper work I hadn't finished filling out. He set that aside, asked me to roll up my sleeves, and started feeling up and down my arms and yelling out afflictions. He said I had fatigue, anxiety, some issues with several organs that he could fix. Then, he gets to my wrists and says OH. I volunteer that I was just getting over severe tendinitis. He tells me no, not that. That I have coronary heart disease and that for a person my age that's not only rare but undetectable. I tell him that's not possible I've just gone through months of blood work for pregnancy and this didn't come up. And this is when I should have left: he tells me doctors wouldn't be able to find mine because it was only 40-50% blocked. However, I came in postpartum because not only was I dealing with pain, but I was trying to find any help I could for postpartum depression and anxiety. So I consider what happened next to be extremely predatory. While he's explaining the condition to me, he's also rattling off all the things that should make me trust what he's saying (he was a monk, he studied Chinese medicine -while spouting some vaguely racist things about China-, he had a best selling book on Amazon -did I want to see his book?- and so on and so forth). He told me eventually, untreated by HIM ALONE this heart disease would kill me and my anxiety and depression were being caused by my heart. This is dangerous stuff. He kept me in that room so long my head was spinning and I ended up agreeing to a thousands of dollar plan that included some acupuncture (I still hadn't had any an hour later) but mostly the cost of Chinese herbs that would fix my heart. Oh, the other big thing he told me (a 4 month postpartum woman) that I needed to lose a lot of weight. And that i was larger and probably had this heart disease and maybe diabetes because i was black and it ran in my genetics. Then he starts to sell me the cure to all my problems. Telling it now, I feel so embarrassed that I actually bought into this shit. But the man is a skilled con man. You needn't look any further than his bio on his website to see how full of himself he is. Luckily for me, I walked out of there not receiving any services because he spent 2 hours selling me the cure to all my ailments and so I retuned the next day for a refund. It's clear that the people who worked there were quite used to situations like this happening. I can't believe this man has profited off of vulnerable people for so long in this community. He should really be ashamed of what he's doing. He told me to call him, Dr Bob or Uncle Bob he's neither. And potentially his real title should say Con Man Bob. read more

I was told that I had the onset of an autoimmune disorder and that I had a narrowing of my arteries at the Puyallup Fair. I made an appointment. Bob was very convincing and wanted to know why I was in his office if I didn't want to get well. I bought into this unfortunately. He convinced me I had to take his herbs. I realized after getting extremely sick he had given me synthetic steroids/ hormones after I had told him I am allergic to anything synthetic. The herbs are dangerous. My blood pressure dropped like a rocket sending me to the hospital. He told me I had high blood pressure in his office. He doesn't listen. He charged me$700 for one visit that did me more harm than good. Now I have hospital bills in addition to his charges. I wonder how he can dispense medication under the guise that it is only herbs. I don't recommend. He has a big ego and will challenge you if you tell him he's wrong about any of his diagnoses. read more

I find him arrogant & ego driven. I had told him that i was healing my thyroid & was waiting for a blood test to confirm. Months later he asked if i was still taking thyroid meds. When i said no, its healed. He said "you healed it?" When i said yes, he got up and walked me out of his office. I guess he thought I "disobeyed" him. I have severe sleep issues & hadn't been asleep for 41hrs and paid for a hotel too because of distance, and then to be treated so rudely.. He never listened or discussed anything about my sleep issues and others. After spending just under 5,000 dollars, I still have all of my health issues. I would find a better place. Maybe with functional medicine included where they get to the root of health issues. Oh, the disobeying comes in when he told me to quit my supplements. And I did. This is what happened to me with this practice. I definitely do not recommend this place. Mr. Doane was a very smooth, persuasive, talker. He claimed he could cure my diabetes and came up with a six month treatment plan, and a bill for over $5,000 (with at least three payment options). He offered me $1,000 discount if I paid that very day with a card, which I did. It was not until after I paid the over $4,000 cash fee that I began to have concerns. For one, I went to the Washington Department of Health provider credential search and learned that there have been two enforcement actions against him for ethical violations. Secondly, I had concerns about the possible negative impact of the low-carb high protein diet he proposed. It can be hard on the kidneys. Note: my wife and I had previously done this kind of diet. She died last summer from kidney cancer. I'm not saying I can prove there is a cause and effect relationship between the high-protein low-carb diet and her cancer but I do have my questions and concerns. I did not feel Mr. Doane took my concerns seriously when I raised them. Although Mr. Doane and the clinic staff were very quick to ask for payment up front, in advance, they were not nearly as enthusiastic in responding to my e-mail resigning as a patient and requesting a refund. Once I sent a letter outlining my knowledge of the prior DOH enforcement actions and my concerns about the proposed diet, I got a call from Mr. Doan right away. He agreed to have a refund check cut immediately. His business manager confirmed this in an e-mail soon thereafter. Assuming I receive the check as promised, I feel this resolves the matter for me. Now, in terms of general observations about the clinic and Mr. Doane, he strikes me as very smart, very charismatic, with a pleasant bedside manner. I believe him to be knowledgeable about Asian medicine, acupuncture, the pulse diagnostic method, etc. I do not like his business model, i.e. packaging all services together and then providing incentives to pay for the whole thing up front. Never again will I go for anything like that. I am the kind of person who needs to pay as I go. This way one can assess progress on an ongoing basis and discontinue or modify participation as seems appropriate. I did not like having to go through what I had to do to get my money back. Way too burdensome, which felt like foot dragging on their part to me. I would encourage anyone considering treatment at this clinic to go in with your eyes wide open. Weigh the pluses and minuses. Know that DOH initiated enforcement actions in the past for a reason. It is NOT common for healthcare providers to have enforcement actions on their records. So, when they do occur it should sound alarm bells. Don't succumb to the temptation to save money by paying up front. Their treatment regimen might or might not be right for you and you won't necessarily know that immediately. They've already been paid so they don't have the same incentives to provide great care. Also, be sure to check in with your primary care provider before undergoing treatment with them to make sure that any proposed care plan is safe for you. The bottom line for me, DON'T PAY IN ADVANCE! These guys are amazing. I went to them with a back pain and then the director of the clinic who is a master of pulse diagnosis told me that i was at risk for Parkinson's disease. I told my doctor he then send me to a specialist at a clinic in seattle. After examining me throughly and doing all the tests, he asked me "who was it that diagnosed this?" My husband met Bob at a festival and called me saying I needed to come down and check this guy out. My husband is interested in alternative/ eastern medicine, and I've been looking for a more holistic natural medicine. My first interaction was not with Bob but someone who was helping them at the festival. My heritage is from Asia, and I kept my Asian name. The guy who was answering some of our questions asked me what my name was and then proceeded to laugh and make fun of it all while making kung-fu, Bruce Lee sounds while he was karate chopping the air, I just stood there stunned, thinking, "Did I jump back in time to my elementary days... I blew it off since this guy had no real association with the clinic but was a friend of Bob's. That should have been my first clue. I then met Bob, and he did his pulse diagnosis. He "diagnosed" me with high cholesterol, high blood pressure, and some arthritis. The diagnosis of my arthritis/pain is what sold me on him. The rest of the diagnosis he could have diagnosed that by just looking at me. He told us to come down to the clinic, and we can talk about our options. Once we got into the clinic, everything changed. He did his pulse thing again and told me that I had a heart murmur and that it would be undetected by other doctors because at the moment it was minor but because of his pulse diagnosis he could detect it and if I didn't get it fixed that I could die. He went on telling me that I have high cholesterol, high blood pressure, anxiety, and that I need to lose weight. He told me I was a mess and that I needed to start taking their herbs, and he alone could make it all go away. I asked about my arthritis and he said he didn't detect that but that his herbs and acupuncture could take care of that pain. He then went on to diagnose my husband and told him almost the same thing but also said he had anger issues but no heart problem. He then said it would cost us about $4000 each with 6 free acupuncture sessions for each of us and that we were getting a hell of a deal. We asked about insurance and said we would have to pay up front and that we would have to call our insurance to get refunded. Oh and during the whole visit he proceeded to tell us all of his accolades and why he was the only person who could fix us and proceeded to tell us when he lived in China how much they looked up to him and because of this he wasn't racist as he put it "because the chines people love me so much, as a young man living in China I felt like a God" The whole interaction was weird to say the least and I should have walked away then, but my husband thought what do we have to lose insurance will pay us back, so begrudginglyi I agreed. We went a few times tried their herbs, which did nothing but give me diarrhea. I told Bob about that, and he altered the herbs, which did stop the diarrhea. However, I didn't see any more results and decided to stop treatment. My husband went a few more times but then agreed he wasn't really seeing any difference. The biggest thing, though, was that insurance never paid us back, and it was too late to get our money back. If you want someone who is arrogant, has a God complex, takes advantage of people, and is racist then he's your man. I don't disagree with holistic medicine, herbs, or acupuncture. I do believe they work for people. What I don't agree with is this clinics' false hopes and promises and preying on people who are trying to remedy their ailments and take their hard earned money. read more

Our employees were following our company's policy and procedures for managing refund requests. Services that are paid for with a credit/debit card are typically refunded only after the transaction has been processed and the funds have settled in our company bank account. Once the funds are received, we honor our policy as stated in the agreement you signed, and issue refund checks within 30-45 days. It is our experience that this a recommended business practice to prevent fraudulent activity. If the funds are received sooner, we attempt to issue refund checks earlier than the stated waiting period. Although you demanded an immediate refund in cash while you were in our facility, we were unable to accommodate your request. It is not our business practice to issue refunds in cash, nor do we have cash on hand to make an exception to our standard procedure. It was our hope that, by immediately issuing you a check for a full refund, you would feel as though you were treated reasonably and fairly. We regret that you do not agree and are unsatisfied with our handling of this matter. We wish you well," TO WHICH I will reply Yes, Bob did write me a check AFTER threatening me - and telling me never to return to the center - which, please, do not worry, I won't. The transaction from my debit card had gone through. The center had my cash. Did I expect cash in hand? Absolutely not - but I did request a refund and was, like I wrote, intimidated and made to feel fearful. Bob is a great psychologist - telling me that I was upset when I walked in - which I was not - Of course I demanded a full refund - just like they demanded I pay up front before any treatment ... which I did. I did NOT demand cash - so stop trying to rewrite the story, customer service. I am still awaiting an answer from Tom, who is their home show expert and who took $70.00 for a 'pulse reading' at the Seattle Home Show - and for that I received not one thing, except another appointment with Bob who did the same exact thing.
