In 15 years of seeking acupuncture treatment for various ailments, Dierdre Claiborne is one of the very best acupuncturists I've seen. Dierdre was very good at placing the needles with a minimum of discomfort, something that comes with many years of experience, and listened to me when I asked for adjustments and/or to have a needle removed. After just one session, I was able to start sleeping through the night again and get some relief from some miserable symptoms I've been experiencing. The rooms and the environment are very comfortable and they sell many high-quality supplements. Tranquil. This is the one word I would use for Acupuncture Herbal Center. The waiting area has a beautiful fountain and calming music. The staff speak in hushed, almost reverent tones. The rooms are soothing and the art work on the wall is unique and picturesque. I went in for fertility treatments this time, but in the past I have come for pain relief. The electric stimuli in tandem with the needles relived my back pain after two treatments. I have been treated by both practitioners - Deirdra and Dr. Wang. Dr. Wang is a fertility specialist out of China and Deirdra is a L.Ac. Both are equally skilled and knowledgable. I have been going to Sam Wang since 1987 when he opened his first practice in San Francisco. I followed him and Deidre when they. moved the practice to Marina County. He helped me to defeat chronic bronchitis and taught me how to manage winters. After about 2-4 years I completely got rid of it in my life. Sam Wang is my go-to practitioner of Chinese Medicine. When I got a parasite in my body that made me very foggy, caused double vision, and bad fatigue-- Kaiser Permanente did all the tests and I was lucky (Negative for MS & and long list. of serious diseases. Conclusion was that I had a parasite (viral) in my system. (I remembered that two weeks prior to vision loss, I ate beef Wellington/RAW BEEF for first time.) I was told it would take 6 months to 6 years to rid the parasite from my system. (no remedy). I went to Sam Wang and with this good information from tests, he gave me strong dosage very strong herbs and started me on acupuncture (I was to watch no tv and no computer, eat NO meat for a year). They helped me with my issues, and, in my case, I was lucky enough to get almost immediate results. (Everyone is different, but having a good practitioner is no coincidence!) Deirdra and her work at the Acupunture Herbal Center is the ultimate miracle if you suffer from severe menstrual cramps! After two year of horrible cramps that landed me in the hosptial on several occasions I was at a dead end as far as treatment options. This is when a friend recommended the AHC. He has successfully treated literally every single ailment or condition I have ever seen him for; from a terrible flu, to inducing my labor, to neck pain. Beyond his obvious talent, Dr. Wang has extraordinary bedside manner. He is kind and gentle, thoughtful and thorough. My husband and teenage daughter (the one whose labor he induced!) also see Dr. Wang (and Diedra) regularly as well as many other friends whom I've referred. I am (was) a new patient to this clinic for infertility treatment. I found Dr. Samuel Wang's Acupuncture Herbal Center off the website when I was searching for an acupuncturist to assist me with my infertility treatment. I read many books on using acupuncture and herbs to resolve infertility issues. I also read everything on Dr. Samuel Wang's Acupuncture website. Their website stated: Question: What should I know about the proposed treatments? Answer: "Your practitioner will explain the nature of your problem and what treatment he/she is recommending. Your practitioner will tell you what benefits and risks and the proposed treatment plan. If you agree to go ahead with the treatments, your practitioner will t ell you what progress to expect, what to do if you don't experience progress and what to do if you feel worse. You should discuss all of your questions in person with your practitioner." Well, frankly I was really disappointed with the service Dr. Wang had provided. He did not communicate with me at all. He doesn't seem to be fluent in English. He did not give me a consultation or treatment plan, he went right ahead with the acupuncture treatment without explaining to me what it is for. I asked him several times, what he finds by examining my pulse and my tongue reading. He didn't respond. I wanted to know what my pulse reading shows and if my tongue shows any deficiency. He did not provide a response to any of my questions. Frankly, this is very poor service of a practitioner. I am an informed consumer and I would like to know what steps I am taking and the next steps in curing my infertility issues. I have had acupuncture treatment elsewhere where the practitioner explains what the treatment and herbs were for. But Dr. Wang was very non-communicative and he ended up charging me for both the consultation (which I did not received) along with the acupuncture treatment. $100.00 a pop for a 7 minute treatment session without consultation. Their website stated: $75.00 per acupuncture treatment. Needless to say, they lost me as a customer. I will be looking elsewhere for a compassionate and patient TCM practitioner whom I can trust and work with to resolve my infertility issues. read more

Dr Wang is a magician! Deidra is equally amazing and both helped me conceive my beautiful son who is now two and half! I am now getting treatments from Dr. Wang for a major surgical set-back after bunion surgery. I developed extreme pain in the ball of my foot four months post surgery and ended up back in my post-surgical boot. I could not place my left foot on the floor for even a moment without grasping for air and being in tears from the pain. Ortho surgeon injected me with extremely painful cortisone shot which did absolutely nothing. Another surgeon recommended contrast therapy (switching from extreme hot/cold water) and it did not help in any capacity. I iced my foot twice a day, took every pain killer available and was still in excruciating pain both physically and mentally from the distress this ordeal had on my body. My neurologist ordered an emergency MRI which showed I had intermetatarsal bursitis, which explained my chronic pain for a month and half!! I finally called Dr. Wang explained what happened and he saw me that same day. After only four sessions, I am back in regular supportive shoes, off all medications and able to comfortably place my foot on the floor without any pain! The key to working with Dr. Wang is to follow his advise and return when he tells you to do so even if you are starting to feel better. I personally did not react well to the herbs he advised I took when I was trying to get pregnant, however it worked great for my friend. I highly recommend asking for the herbal patch if you have an injury such as myself. It helped tremendously and worked all day. The office environment is also very soothing with herbal smells and music playing in the background. It's definitely a 20 minute escape from reality! Lastly, treatments are not cheap at $83 per session, however worth every penny. I have been to a communal acupuncture center before and did nothing for me. Dr. Wang has a Ph.D with years of experience and knowledge, therefore you get what you pay for with him. Another suggestion is asking for a super bill, which can be submitted to most insurance companies and they will often reimburse you a portion of fees paid. read more

To start, both the doctor & the receptionist were late for my appointment, something I easily could have looked past, if not for how horrid the rest of the appointment was! The doctor would not let me finish any discussion of my ailment, so he proceeded blindly and without treating what was really bothering me. While in the treatment room (which should be meditative) I was subjected to the loud personal conversations of the doctor and of the receptionist (including swearing!). On completion of my treatment, there was very little discussion with the doctor, just a bottle of herbs and "talk to the receptionist about a follow-up". When I politely inquired of the receptionist about why the fees were double the average, I was told I could "make another appointment, or not". It's possible the Dr's bedside manner wasn't his normal, but there is no excuse for the receptionist swearing or being outright rude! read more

I had a very favorable experience with Dr. Samuel Wang. I have been having a problem with my foot for many months now, with swelling and pain at night. I could not exercise without pain or walk for long periods. I tried massage, pain pills, ice, and even talked to a medical doctor...it just would not get better. So I decided to give Acupuncture a shot and called the Acupuncture Herbal Center who I found in the phone book. I knew I was in the right place right away because the staff was so nice and attentive.
