The front desk staff was not helpful towards answering questions every time I would call. The front desk was not only unfriendly but they would talk to me in a cold and mean manner. My provider refused to answer my direct questions on the portal and via phone calls when I called every day. Instead, she billed me for "researching". When all I asked for was a referral- I did all the research myself. Not only did I feel like my care was dismissed but I was neglected and billed extra after messaging in the portal which I was not informed about.

Five months later, I am trying to get their billing dept to cooperate. Any doctors' office that forces you to prepay (despite insurance) and then to call them to get a refund should be avoided. UPDATE: Turns out the insurance company paid them 4 months ago, in May, $410. The actual cost of the preventative care visit was $145, still not refunded to me. No explanation why they charged my insurance the extra $265. Avoid, avoid, avoid.

I would give FPA 4 or 5 stars rating because they were good, competent and convenient, but they deserve ZERO stars for this apparently sudden closure, and leaving their clients in the lurch as we try to get new doctors and retrieve our records.

Unfortunately I don't recall the operating room staffs names they were wonderful making me comfortable. In the recovery are I had Page & another nurse & that nurse also top notch! I wanted to share my experience, hoping that this will help other people not get bullied into paying bills upfront. If you have insurance, which I do, you are not obligated to pay anything except for your deductible. I had unexpected surgery, and it got scheduled at the Surgery Center of Anchorage. I received a call from Nancy in the billing department regarding going over my insurance and payment. She told me the overall total was around $11,000. She then mentioned that I needed to pay the remainder of my deductible, $1,102.58. Then, I needed an additional $2,100.42 for what my insurance does not cover. Let me begin with that, and she had her math right. I told her that my responsibility is just my deductible, and then you can invoice me. I do not pay anything without knowing what I paid for and have a track record. I know my insurance. It is a $1500 deductible with a $3,500 max out of pocket and 80/20. However, this is not a typical guideline for a medical practice to pay upfront. On top of that, she refused to give me an invoice. Why would I hand anyone money blindly with no invoice before the surgery? I called my insurance, and they told me exactly what I thought they would and said I am only responsible for my deductible at this time if they ask for a collection. They are not following the guidelines that they are supposed to. I then called my PCP and explained the issue. She said to try and call back and speak to a manager. If they would not accept just my deductible, we can cancel the surgery with them and schedule it at Alaska Regional (Keep in mind that my surgery was one hour away now). I called back and asked to speak to a manager, waited on hold for almost 10 minutes, and then Valencia Elsberry picked up. I introduced myself and explained the situation and my conversation with Nancy. I also explained that I spoke to my insurance about how I am only responsible for my deductible at this time, and it is required to have an invoice. Valencia's said, "Well, that sounds nice, but that is not how it works here." I was so shocked by her choice of words and her delivery. Highly unprofessional and should not be in a manager role. I understand that they are a private practice, but that does not change that you still need to follow guidelines, and where is the care? Also, I wanted to point out this was my first surgery, and it came a little unexpectedly. They did nothing but stress me out the entire time. How are they in business if this is how they treat people? Looking at the other reviews, I am not the only one with the same experience. So.... that alone shows you this is an ongoing problem. Nancy and Valencia need to be held accountable for treating people and manipulating and bullying people into getting them to pay everything up front, even with insurance. With that said, I called back my PCP, and they canceled it at the Surgery Center of Alaska and scheduled me at Alaska Regional the same day. Alaska regional asked for my insurance information, and that was it! It was simple, stress-free, welcoming, and they took great care of me. I am so glad I stood up and switched. The insurance will take care of everything, and then I will receive an invoice for then I will be responsible for paying. That is the guideline, period. Surgery Center of Alaska only cares about money and does not care about people. However, they ended up losing $11,000. Interesting how that worked out. I have reported this company and hope they get a wide awakening, start caring for people and get a new entire team in the billing department. To anyone out there reading this, thinking about going here, I want you to remember you have the choice on where you go. Also, ALWAYS call your insurance and follow what the guidelines are. Although your insurance company will steer you in the right direction, they will tell you what other places they work. Remember, you have options, and you do not have to go here! She listened to each concern I had and The entire staff from the person that asked if I was checking in to the nurse who took my vitals and the The reason I'm giving 4 stars is the lady you see after you have your appointment. I think she was Filipino. I don't remember her name but I gave her my new patient forms. She was rude when talking to me and I was confused because previous doctors I've had to do labs I've had to go another facility. So I didn't realize I had to go to the lab across the hall before turning in my form. She then had to raise her voice slightly and it really didn't sit well with me. I work in customer service and it really makes a difference when you talk to a worker who's respectful and nice to you. Every other point of contact at this place (receptionist who checked me in, doctor, nurse, the lab workers across the hall) were very professional except for her. In fact after I came back to turn in my form and give a copay, she was on the phone and her tone of voice was completely different and very nice to who she was talking to. Because of the excellent care from everyone else I will continue to come back.

This has happened to me on 3 separate occasions now. Moral of the story: if you have a simple question for your nurse or doctor, just make an appointment for that day. That's the only way you'll get an answer. Extremely frustrating!

And if she doesn't know the answer, she'll track it down or find someone who does. Her nurse Chrissy is just amazing, so sweet and kind. She always has time to help with general questions and loves to just chat and ask about your day. They love seeing the babies she delivers, she takes pictures and adds them to her wall. She is by far the best gynecologist I've ever seen, and I can't wait to go through a pregnancy with her. As I have no doubt she'll be just as amazing with everything that pertains to that too.

She was well educated and had answers to all of my many questions. Her personality and bedside manner were absolutely wonderful! I love love love her so much! With both my recent babies she delivered she always asked me to bring them back into the office so she could get a picture of me with them. A genuinely kind person, and such a pleasure to be around. Her nurse Chrissy is fabulous. So sweet and kind. Remembers you and what's going on with you so she can chat with you each visit. She is so friendly and empathizes well with the patients. It always brightened my day when Chrissy was the nurse. :)

Everything from scheduling Billing Referrals Follow up -There is most definitely an 'air' of 'Karen-esque' personalities with the staff. Because it is such a small town, that makes a patient uneasy when these folks have so much access to PHI. An elevated level of posterity and an approach to managing the front medical office, requires maturity and a propensity for altruism. Your patients want to feel at ease when they come to your office. The medical staff, and facility however!!!! Five stars. I don't think I've ever gotten better treatment. I feel more educated, at ease, and like I have a plan leaving the office. Dr Jones and Medical staff are fantastic. Holistic.
