In 2020 I fractured my cheek and orbital bone in a bike accident. After visiting another maxillofacial specialist in SLO, I was told that it would probably be better to let it heal in place due to some risk to the eye, and despite the obvious malformity. At first I took this advice and decided it wasn't worth the risk just for vanity, but after two weeks I decided to get a second opinion on a whim and I'm glad I did. San Luis Oral Surgery got me in to see Dr. Janette within 48 hrs. He said that if I'd seen him first he would've recommended I fix it immediately, and that there was virtually no risk to the eye. This matter-of-factness was confidence inspiring, and he didn't make me feel like it was vain to want to fix the problem; concisely putting it: "if you break your face, you should fix it" haha, which was very validating. Given that it had to be done ASAP, the receptionists went way above and beyond to schedule my surgery quickly and got the insurance sorted just in time. I went from assuming that I'd be reminded of the accident every time I looked in the mirror to, instead, rarely thinking about it, which is the best possible outcome. It takes a lot for me to leave a poor review, but this this necessary. I totally understand that times right now can be difficult, but I believe that it is especially important to not allow personal circumstances to interfere with delivering a high level of service. With that in mind I wouldn't recommend using San Luis Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Dental Implant Center until management staff have been provided with advanced training on effective listening, problem resolution, and what great client service looks like. I realize the above probably needs some context: My wife was scheduled to have her wisdom teeth pulled @8am PST and she was cancelled by the office at 7:30am. Then the rescheduled appointment was cancelled too. We have a newborn at home. A family member was traveling to come help from 40 minutes away during the surgery time. I took 2 days time off work. There was premade post-surgery recommended foods that had to be tossed because of the constant rescheduling. These cancellations actually cost us around ~$500. When I called and spoke with the office manager about my concerns, the level of service was abysmal. I calmly explained the concerns I had for the upcoming 3rd rescheduled appointment and walked through how much the last minute reschedules had cost us financially. I asked for some type of cost adjustment to the service we were paying for (wisdom teeth removal) to account for how the lack of reliability had cost us financially. Throughout the entire conversation, if you can call it that, the office manager hardly allowed me to finish a sentence without interrupting me. She wouldn't assist us at all and said, "Unfortunately, this is a cost of service for you." There was no discussion, no collaboration of what might be able to be done to remedy the concerns at hand. I was appalled. In my 20 years of service experience, I seldom talk with management staff that have such poor people skills, let alone severe lack of business sense. I would have been happy with $250 deducted from our upcoming $1800 bill. Heck, even $100 off, a sincere apology and getting my wife in sooner than a week would have made the difference. Anyways, I hope that this review is taken to heart, improvements are made and that additional training is provided to the staff so that other folks don't experience what my family did. . read more

My dentist told me that it had to be extracted and referred me to Dr. Janette. I called his office and they gave me an appointment for the following morning. His office staff were beyond nice and helping. Dr. Janette himself was very professional w/great bedside manner and sense of humer. He was very experienced and knowledgeable and explained the procedure in detail. I was very nervous before the procedure but he took my tooth out with no pain at all. After a number of years of dealing with serious teeth issues, unfortunate dental experiences, a lot of being minimized, my sanity being questioned (!) expensive treatments and dental appliances, mis-diagnoseses, then discovering cracked upper teeth were in my sinuses, resulting in a bunch of extractions, 3 sinus surgeries, a rare infection and three fungal infections, I came to Dr. Janette, who was highly recommended by my dentist as well as long-time friends in the community. Ashley's customer service skills are excellent - I called with an urgent situation and she put me at ease and truly cared about my suffering. I was booked right away. My review is reflective of how I was treated as a patient. I want to start by saying Dr. Janette and his dental staff were great. I had to have an emergency tooth extraction and the staff were all very accommodating and quick to follow up with my aftercare. However, the office manager is incredibly rude and treated me with extreme disrespect. I paid for my procedure out of pocket, as the dental insurance I have is out of network. Mind you, I paid my balance in full. This was not a situation where I was delinquent. Months later, I called several times to get a claim form so that I may be reimbursed through my insurance, but the office manager was adamant that my procedure was "not an emergency" and refused to assist me in the process by filling out a simple claim form and mailing it to my address. I finally went in person, where she gave me attitude and a dirty look and said she had more "pressing" things to attend to. I stood my ground and she finally filled out the form, which took all of two minutes of her "busy" day. There was absolutely to reason a paying customer such as myself be treated with this level of disrespect. This is not how I would want my business represented and I think Dr. Janette should be made aware of the way a member of his staff treated a patient. read more

Adam Janette remove two teeth 18 & 19. The tooth removal went well. Now I am planning to put implants at these locations. Unfortunately for me the socket left by the pulled teeth were not backfilled with bone chips to allow implants, which would have been easy and inexpensive to do at the time. Now 2 years +, I have to have an extensive process of adding bone grafts in the gap because it has narrowed over the interim. I feel Adam was negligent in not suggesting filling the sockets at the time the teeth were removed. It is relatively inexpensive to do then. Now I have to spend a minimum of 9 months before I can complete implants in the space. He should know that it is inexpensive insurance for future implants, and he failed to offer this option. read more

I've never been fond of going to the Doctor or Dentist office. For once, I found a place that has all around excellent customer service. Everyone I encountered with made me feel comfortable and at ease. They were real genuine people that clearly are happy at there work place. Not once did I feel an eye roll, sarcasm or as if my questions were too much. Leah, Britney and my Surgeon were friendly, professional and I actually looked forward to my appointments. Most places have you in and out and it's cliche, everyone is looking at there watch and sometimes seems likes it s only about the money, but this place was the opposite. They spent time to answer every question I had. They made sure I was comfortable before I left and while I was there. Best service I've ever experienced. So disappointed with their billing. Called several oral surgeons before making an appointment to make sure they were in network. This office assured me "all was good" with my insurance when scheduled my consultation appointment and did not clarify they were out of network. I received a bill for $199 for the consult. I'm very impressed with Dr. Janette and his staff. I just started with the implant procedure. The initial consultation gave me confidence that he knows what he's doing. The actual procedure was painless and he explained what he was doing throughout. Leah, his assistant, is very pleasant and extremely patient at explaining the do's and don'ts of the after-care, and in showing me how to remove and place in the appliance. He is so bad. My Mom just made me go for a consult for wisdom teeth removal.. He charge $500 for less than 10 minutes. My insurance paid $150, my mom paid $150 and he sued me for the rest. I'm only 22 and I have bad credit now because of him. He sent me to a collection agency and they took the money from my income tax return. I only make minimum wage and this guy makes $500 in 10 minutes. He should go to jail for robbery. Never go to him. read more

I was referred to Dr. Janette by my dentist for removal of all 4 wisdom teeth. His office was extremely efficient both during the scheduling process, and upon my arrival. Dr. Janette was very thorough during my consult, answering all my questions in depth. His office staff reviewed the billing details before my surgery, which was greatly appreciated (I wish all offices operated to this level of efficiency). As for the surgery itself....painless and comfortable. My recovery, due to his amazing work, was short and easy. I did my research & got multiple opinions when it came to my need for oral surgery. I had a great experience with San Luis Oral Surgery. I had all 4 wisdom teeth removed last week. Dr Janette and his staff were professional, personable, & made the whole experience great. Obviously any oral surgery isn't going to be FUN, but they made the whole thing easy for me; from issues with my insurance to checking in with me 9 hours after my surgery to make sure I was doing well. The first time I went for x-rays and a preliminary consultation, since I needed to get my wisdom teeth removed. I was referred to this office by Dr. Flores, so I thought it would be good! The staff was excellent, every single person I interacted with was great. At the beginning, I was losing my patience because I had to fill out forms with some information that I had already given them on the phone, but everybody in this town needs some help with that, it happens everywhere ; I realized later that they have PDF forms that can be pre filled, but they didn't tell me that when I made the first appointment (I would recommend making those forms enabled for filling in the fields, so that they don't have to be printed). On that first appointment, they gave me a couple tips to get my insurance pre approved faster and told me exactly how to proceed, this was key for an easy patient experience, also, they told me right away how much the bill was going to be, which not everybody does and I consider very important. I was a bit lazy on coordinating my next appointment, but after a couple emails and phone calls, they gave me one for 2 or 3 weeks later, then I realized it was going to be on Halloween, so I called to reschedule and they moved it for the next Tuesday at a convenient time, and she was very understanding of my desire to eat candy on Halloween. I decided to have only local anesthesia because: 1. I'm not a baby and 2. The one where they put you down costs like $150 more. The day finally arrived and I was excited (I kinda like dentists' offices and supplies). The anesthesia shots were probably the most painful part and I barely felt them, it's more a weird feeling than pain, then they removed 2 of them in like 5 minutes; the third one was in a very bad position so he had to use a drill and split it in two, there were a couple stitches. It all happened very seamlessly, he was telling me what he was doing and I only really felt one of the extractions a little bit. Everything took 1 hour, as promised and they sent me home with instructions and a cute little care kit. That was like 3 weeks ago and I can say that only the 2 days after were a little uncomfortable , but it was no big deal. They advised me to take it easy, so I did, but I was hiking that night. Other things worth mentioning: Shelda, she does billing, was one of the few Americans that has pronounced my name correctly the first time. Dr. Jeanette has a monster handshake, that have me more confidence in his abilities (I know, humans are weird). The girls at the reception helped me coordinate and Britney, the dental assistant called me the next day to see how I was doing. Overall, it was a good experience and I recommend these guys 100%. read more

The office staff and assistants were professional and nice for the most part with the exception of one gal in the office. I feel like their main concern is collecting your money. I was surprised when I came in for surgery and was told they didn't do something correctly and I would have to pay ANOTHER $1500 BEFORE they would perform the surgery. When I expressed my concern to Dr. Jeanette he was very cavalier about the whole situation and blew it off. He obviously doesn't understand that not everyone has $1500 at their disposal (especially without any warning). I was very upset about the whole situation and the fact that they refused to work with me. I have had two surgeries with Dr. Jeanette and almost feel as if he was retaliating. Both times the injections were VERY slow and EXTREMELY painful. Again, Dr. Jeanette had an "oh well, that's how it is" attitude. I have shopped around and found that Dr. Jeanette's prices are higher than most of the oral surgeons in this area. I have switched to another DDS and couldn't be happier. Lastly, Dr. Jeanette needs to tame his ego. He is not as wonderful as he thinks he is. read more

The insurance company was giving her the run around but when she informed us of their progress she was always professional yet straight forward. The whole staff is friendly, and makes you feel at ease. After meeting the doctor, I wonder if they got it from him. He's quite the surgeon. It was my first time having any type of surgery, so naturally I was nervous. I also had an infection at the site where surgery was needed (my wisdom teeth). Of course, this was the wisdom tooth that hurt the most. He was allot better at working on my teeth than allot of other people that have worked on my teeth before --which goes to say allot since this was the biggest job yet! During surgery, he frequently communicated with me to make sure I was comfortable. I was actually smiling during allot of the operation, and even afterwards as well! Wow... haha I wish my dentist, and his assistant was this way. The procedure was quick, and painless. I was thoroughly explained of how to take care of myself for healing after the work was done by his kind hearted, and friendly assistant. They prescribed me painkillers, and antibiotics to finish me up. The price was more than fair for the job. I recommend this office to anyone looking for a good surgery, and experience. read more
