Adam is a true delight to work with. He came recommended to us by an acquaintance who used him for her wedding, and then we found out another acquaintance had also used him...so, we figured we were in good company! We really resonated with his natural, documentary-style approach to photography. We didn't want someone who was going to ask us to pose a lot or stage a ton of shots. Now, we did end up asking for/needing some staged shots: for example, we took a lot of formal family photos on the wedding day itself. But, those were our request and besides that, he was a fly on the wall. Adam is always committed to getting the best shot, which means he might: 1) pluck a dead flower to add some artsy aesthetic; 2) lay fully prone on a sidewalk while shouting "Yes! Smooch! Adorable!" as you pose across the street; or 3) Use his own shirt sleeve to squeeze dripping water out of a bouquet so it doesn't get on your dress. I used to look in awe and wonder at wedding pics and family photos from my friends in California. Some of them have the privilege of hiring the best of the best photographers to fly out and shoot some breathtaking photos to capture their incredible day. My husband and I couldn't be happier that Adam did our wedding photography. He was super respectful with our time and we ended up with great engagement photos and wedding photos. We wanted something creative for our engagement and he came up with the unique idea of visiting a carnival that was in town. The pictures turned out to be some of the best we have ever had and we had a great time to boot. As far the wedding goes, Adam arranged his own travel, was on time to everything, and had a clear plan for how the photography would go. We filled out paperwork in advance with our expectations which was nice because we knew we agreed and it was all handled properly the day of. I think one of Adam's strengths is capturing special moments that you share with your partner and special moments that you otherwise wouldn't see because you're caught up in wedding day business. There were so many cool pictures of our decor and our family that I was so glad I could experience after the wedding. I also like how Adam takes in the scenery and really makes it look artistic. Adam went above and beyond with our wedding and engagement shoot. He is incredibly kind, personable, and patient. We hired Adam for our "engagement" photos. It was a series of black and whites where he followed us around for one day. I was uneasy with someone being that up close and personal for 12 hours, but this is where his professionalism comes in. Within 30 minutes of him arriving, Michael and I were relaxed and carrying on with our normal day. For the wedding, Adam and his second shooter, Sarah, were again incredible. I was a little nervous before the ceremony, but Sarah has an exceptionally calming nature and helped put my jitters at ease. Finally, we have not received all of our photos back, but the ones we have seen are breathtaking. Even if we only got the 3 photos I have seen, it would be worth his price. I really recommend hiring Adam, he knows what he's doing and works hard to get to know you as a couple so he can capture the moments that matter to YOU, and not some trendy style of shot. Perhaps you are like I was several months ago, looking through many photography blogs until you finally stumble across Adam Kealing. If you're thinking, "should I book this guy?" Then I am here to tell you that if Adam's photos speak to you, then you absolutely should. One thing that I read about while wedding planning and also found to be true on my wedding day is that you spend a LOT of time with your photographer. He/she is present for many intimate moments.. getting dressed, crying while you say your vows, your first moments as husband and wife. It is really important that you feel comfortable with said person. Adam made my husband and I feel comfortable immediately upon meeting him. He is genuine and enthusiastic, and provides suggestions and guidance without being bossy. Adam also encouraged me to follow my gut with a few decisions, such as not seeing my husband before the ceremony and skipping the professional makeup. He was a wonderful support and ally throughout the process. My husband enjoys photography as a hobby, and we noticed that our favorite shots are candid shots that capture special moments. We are so happy that Adam captured these special moments on our wedding day and that we didn't spend time posing for a bunch of dippy, contrived shots. I would give Adam more stars if I could. I love Adam. Not only is he one of the best photographers I've ever met, he's become a real friend in the planning process for the wedding and afterwards. In addition to shooting our wedding, he did an engagement shoot with my fiancé at the time--while I was pregnant--and a shoot of myself and son afterwards. His love of life and enthusiasm for capturing the best moments make him exceptional, and the real heart of the experience is captured in everything he does. He makes the photo shoot experience--whether it's more formal like engagement shots, or the wedding day/night perfect. In more formal settings, like engagement photos, he manages to make everyone relax and laugh. I am so honored that he photographed our wedding (and also engagement photo session). The photos for both the engagement session and the wedding are incredible. We're so fortunate to have the problem of having a hard time deciding what shots to get printed. We initially found out about Adam from an ah-mazing post on a wedding blog. I was completely floored by the work. Most wedding / engagement photographers relied on filters / aftereffects or cheesy poses to make their photos cute. Adam, on the other hand, understands how to capture moments. He waits for the right time to take the shot. He compose frames beautifully. He uses natural lighting in a way that inspires you. In other words, he knows his sh*t and you can trust that he will knock that sh*t out of the park. Advice to any couples looking into the engagement session photos: It's TOTALLY worth it! We found Adam through a mutual friend, and this turned out to be the most fortuitous decision in planning our wedding on Italy's Amalfi Coast. First, it cannot be undermined how comforting it is to have someone "from home" present on your wedding day, having confidence in the quality of photos and enjoyable company to compliment the day. Adam and his assistant were incredibly professional and kind, but most of all FUN! Adam's enthusiasm and eye for the most beautiful shots perfectly blended into our most incredible day. We barely noticed him capturing photos during the ceremony and reception. Further, they were incredibly generous with their time, showing up early for our rehearsal dinner, scouting locations to take the best photos around our venue, and staying late through the reception. After combing through dozens of photographer's portfolios and websites, I hired Adam to photograph my wedding. I was (and still am) extremely impressed by his unique eye and style. I think he's incredibly talented and was pleasant to work with initially. Unfortunately, I was not able to work with Adam as the wedding was cancelled 4 months after I hired him. His contract required that we put down 1/2 of his total fee as a non-refundable deposit when we booked him, which was not a small amount of money. At the time of cancellation, we were still a little over a year (380 days) away from the wedding date. Adam told me that if he was able to re-book the date, we would get our deposit back. I checked in with him diligently throughout the year but it seems that he was unable to do so and has therefore refused to return any portion of my $3,000. I believe that it's completely unethical that he has chosen to do so considering the fact that I reserved his services for four months and cancelled over a year from the date. If I had cancelled three months from the date, I wouldn't have thought twice about his keeping it but he had more than a reasonable amount of time to re-book that date. He didn't do anything to earn the money. While I think Adam is a talented photographer, I would never recommend that anyone work with him. read more

So 5 stars is something I am actually not a fan of on Yelp because what could really be "perfect"? Celebratory days, especially ones that get built up as much as wedding days, always have their imperfections and unexpected changes. With this in mind, you can still see that I have given Adam 5 stars. Why, you ask? 1. LGBTQ ally: My wife and I (two lovely ladies) were looking for an inclusive photography vendor that recognized our relationship for what it was (amazing, complicated, etc. like everyone else) and didn't cause us/them any pause with romantic/intimate moments. After all, we were paying the bill. Well...not only did we find two highly skilled photographers (he often works with an equally amazing photographer, if that is what you are looking for) but they were MUCH MORE than a "vendor." 2. Don't mess with perfection: Adam has a magnetic personality and very much became part of the celebration/family. His style is one that we fell in love with immediately, and his process for getting to know us and our vision only helped enhance the planning and day-of experience. We had a "destination wedding" and so we initially connected via Skype before booking (to make sure all of our personalities meshed and we understood his style and process... don't try to fiddle with his process. It works!). They then took the extra step of meeting in person when we happened to be in the same city at the same time. 3. Did we just have an amazing, platonic one night stand?: Get ready to recommend him to everyone who is looking for a photographer. I was able to see him again at a friends' wedding since they fell in love with our documented memories and now have AMAZING ones of their own. In some ways, he will leave your wedding and you will feel like you just had the most amazing one night stand, so for my wife and I, it was great to reconnect at our friends' wedding and feel like time had not passed. 4. Put your worries aside: He is reliable, fun, magically invisible yet magically not, and your guests will love him! We still have not put together our album (married in 2013) because the images evoke so many deep emotions... and there are so many breathtaking shots! We also cannot determine our favorites for framing, so for now we enjoy them electronically... which doesn't do them justice, I know. read more

We stumbled upon Adam's work online when looking for wedding photographers that don't produce the cookie cutter, run of the mill stuff. Our engagement photos turned out to be so beautiful and unique, that we used quite a few photos for the design of our wedding website, save the date, and invitations. He exceeded our exceptions. He captured the beauty and raw essence of our wedding from beginning to end. He was so professional, detail-oriented, and focused as he took photos of everything we asked for and more, including capturing each special moment shared and every single one of our guests and family. He even stayed a little longer than needed to capture photos of us leaving the venue to our limo. We were so pleased with his work that we were glad we didn't spend money on a videographer because he captured everything. In addition, we even opted for the photo booth option, which was quite a hit amongst our guests. Once it was all said and done he showed up at our house with a bottle of Jameson and this amazing bamboo box filled with his favorite shots in 4x6 format along with a bamboo USB drive with all the hi res versions. Our jaws dropped at his thoughtfulness and final presentation of the deliverables. Adam is extremely talented and his photos are a work of art. I've worked with Adam in a couple of different capacities. 1) In planning my own wedding my wife and I wanted the absolute best way to remember our day. For us that was through photography that was going to be able to tell the story that we felt. After scouring the internet for the perspective we wanted we found Adam. We knew instantly that his perspective and artistic eye was for us. Leading up to the wedding he was incredibly easy to work with and timely in responding to us. My wife is so very detail and schedule oriented so she had a very detailed schedule for the day. I messed all of that up to surprise her with a Bollywood Dance group to come in during the reception. Adam rolled with both schedules in his head to be able to go along with the surprise. He took the time to get to know us both and our personalities. He treated us with such care and love before, during and after our day. Taking photos with him for our "first look" was a nice relief during the hustle and bustle of the day, it felt like we were able to have some time by ourselves. During the ceremony I never noticed him, he was unobtrusive and didn't get in the way. However our photos from the ceremony were as if he was right there and he was capturing every moment of what we saw and how we felt. Our photos from Adam are some of our most precious possessions and when we look at them we think of our incredible day. 2) I am a pastor and have also worked with Adam at a wedding. I was the officiant and he was the photographer. I've worked in other weddings where the photographer hijacks the schedule and the show. The ceremony is not just another photo opportunity but I know couples want to remember it, so it is always a balance between the photographer and the officiant. I watched Adam be present for the couple and was incredibly attentive to them. He caught shots of how the essesnce of the ceremony felt and feelings that I wanted to communicate with the couple. He caught moments that were tender and easy to miss if people weren't watching but I was able to see because of my front view seat (the way the bride looked at her husband when he squeezed her hand, husband taking a breath right before seeing his bride walk down the aisle, glance between mother of groom and groom) he captured it all. He's always my first suggestion when giving couples suggestions for vendors for their wedding because I know they will be in good hands and will love their pictures. read more

Adam is INCREDIBLE!!!! His work tops anything else I have ever come across. He has the natural ability to seek out and capture moments that most photographers wouldn't even think to. He is a master with lighting and has incredible perspective with whatever or whoever is in his frame. I LOVED that he was willing and able to travel out of state. From the first time we met with Adam and all the way through to the end of the wedding, he was nothing but professional and friendly. Everyone has a "planned" budget and sometimes there are items on the wedding list that you feel you need to spend a little more on and sacrifice others - this is the item to splurge a little! In the beginning, his portfolio truly separated him from the rest of the pack. Then you hope that he isn't just showing you a select highlight reel and that it will truly represent the product that you will get in the end. I recently got married in Austin, Tx and had Adam Kealing as my photographer. He is absolutely amazing, and I could not have asked for a better person to capture all the special moments of my wedding. Seriously the pictures are incredible and he is so accommodating and easy to work with. My husband does not do pictures...or at least posed ones well. I let Adam know this ahead of time and he was really able to make my husband feel comfortable and we got so many great posed shots...I never thought in a million years I would have them! Booking Adam Kealing as our wedding photographer is hands down the best decision we made for our wedding. After seeing his work from my friend's wedding reception we knew he was the right choice, but to be sure we still combed hundreds of other sites. Needless to say noone else compared! We hired Adam to do the photography for our wedding but then we eloped. (Do it, it's everything you ever wanted!!!!) So after informing him that we were already married and didn't have a wedding for him to photograph, he gave us a few options and we chose to have photos taken in Paris (our original wedding location) in our wedding attire.
