Their website touts "treatment plans in 5 days" and "personalized care." I'm now 7 weeks post surgery and never received a treatment plan. Please save yourself the emotional turmoil and don't go here. I connected with City of Hope in late February and should have run at my first sense that something wasn't right. My doctor, Dr. Sharma, seemed to always be waiting on the results of a lab test, so never even made my full diagnosis clear to me. I went along because I was scared, but she was dismissive to questions like, how serious is my cancer and what can I expect. There is no 'patient care coordinator' to help you navigate your treatment. You basically called scheduling for everything. They won't communicate with you through their portal, and you don't know who to call if you have a question or problem. When I asked to see Dr. Sharma when she finally did get labs back in, I was told not to and that they'd see me after surgery. But where it really fell apart was when she came back with clearly inaccurate results of the specimen they removed during surgery. When I asked nicely to have it re-tested, she scoffed at me. When I made a formal request via the portal, her team came back and basically said it was a typo from the lab. I eventually had to demand they re-test it. To that same end, they never ordered the oncotyping post surgery, so I had to wait more than 5 weeks before I could start treatment (whatever that would be). After Dr. Sharma fully eroded my confidence in her, I asked for a new female oncologist on May 9th using COH's formal complaint process -- I honestly didn't know what else to do. And almost exactly 30 days later, I was told they can no longer treat me because they don't have anyone else. I'm attaching the letter. So now I'm approaching 8 weeks post surgery, having had no treatment since April 23rd, and I have to go through the process of finding a doctor who can treat me who is also covered by insurance. I forget - can cancer spread if it's left untreated?

He comes into the room to perform an ultrasound guided biopsy on me as if he worked in the damn drive thru at McDonald's. Before he even touched me I specifically informed him and the ultrasound tech that during my first biopsy I had to be given more lidocaine than usual because not only did I feel pressure which is understandable, I still felt pain. This idiot ( as I'm already nervous and scared because of my first biopsy) proceeds to numb me with the lidocaine, turn around and grab the fu#*!ng scalpel, made the incision in my my skin, grabbed the biopsy needle, squirt some lidocaine in the incision, then proceeds to dig in my damn breast like the idiot that he is. I'm screaming like damn can you at least give the lidocaine time to work and he proceeds to tell me it works instantly as if I'm stupid. He literally injects a tiny bit more lidocaine then again, proceeds like I'm not a damn human being on the table. I'm squirming, screaming and was about to squeeze the techs hand off and you would not believe what this idiot says... he states " I'm going to stop if you can't be still" as he throws his hands in the air. I then told him " your bedside manner f' ing sucks and all you have to f'ing do is let the lidocaine sit for a minute". He then takes his gloves off walking away like the unprofessional a**hole that he is (knowing that my treatment has already been prolonged and that this will further delay my treatment) until my husband stood up and face to face with him and told him " you don't have to be an a**hole to my wife. She's telling your stupid a** that she still feels everything you're doing". I then proceed to tell him that what he was gonna do was finish my biopsy and that he was going to stand there and wait until the lidocaine had time to kick in. After my husband had a few choice words with him and he as well to my husband, the idiot got some act right. I told him that he was not going to delay my treatment any further. He stood there and waited, put his gloves back on and finished the job. I forgot to mention that the first piece of tissue that he pulled off with the biopsy needle felt like someone put their fingers through my breast and ripped off a piece of tissue . By this time the lidocaine had time to settle therefore the lymph node that had to be removed, I didn't feel pain just pressure like it was supposed to be. So not let this inconsiderate jerk near you or anyone you care about. Come to find out he was mad because he had been in meetings all morning and got behind. Idgaf what he had going on. I'm the one laying on the f'ing table with a life changing diagnosis. By the way I used to work at CTCA when it was CTCA. Once it changed to COH it was not the same and not in a good way. You walk in and it's nowhere as warm as it should be. I can't remember the name of the idiot at the front desk but she has a short hair cut but I do remember she was instantly rude when I walked in. I matched her same energy because I refuse to let anyone talk to me in a condescending way. I'm really considering going back to Wellstar where I was treated the way a cancer pt should be treated. I could type many other disappointing encounters with idiots here but it will take forever. Just make sure you research who your doctors are and if something doesn't feel right...... RUN. This ain't the only treatment center in America

Many people have contacted me via Cancer Websites to ask what they should do. In all cases I tell them to schedule a consultation and see if this is the right treatment for you. If you are closed minded and ONLY want standard assembly line care like they offer around the country, this isn't your place to be treated. They will teach you how important the mind is in reference to your health. They will give you treatments like Red Light therapy and PEMF. They will inject you with things like mistletoe and give you a lot of pills to take. If this bothers you that its not the standard "grab a IV bag of full dose chemo" maybe your mind isn't open to beating this disease. Just think if all of those other chemos didn't work like they didn't work for me; why wouldn't you try something different then the normal BIG PHARMA protocol? Its been over a year since I left the clinic. I am still cancer free. Is it because of the treatment? I have no idea; however, I know that if I would not have tried this my NORMAL Dr's would have just given me a pill to take and sent me on my way, as I am stage 4. At this center they don't treat you like a # and they tailor your treatment to your disease. They will answer all your questions. They will review your blood weekly. You will learn how the brain and the body are connected. You will meet a group of caring medical professionals that are there for you. And funny enough the other patients are marvelous and upbeat. I was probably the grouchiest patient they had :) They will suggest a plant based diet. I did that for the time I was there and failed at it after returning home. However I don't eat anything that comes from the sea or water now. That is because I now know about Methionine. I only drink water now. I occasionally will have a sangria; however, I don't eat processed food now. Keep in mind this is your life and you have to do what you can manage and not punish yourself for failing to do everything 100% perfect. Normal Doctors won't even discuss food or how your mind controls your health. My treatment was 3 months. I paid in full with a Credit Card as I have Kaiser Insurance which doesn't allow for out of network care. I did this over Thanksgiving 222 and Xmas and New Years. My schedule was only paused a day or 2 for Thanksgiving. It was 4 weeks there and 4 weeks off and then 4 weeks there. I didn't react well to the treatment I feel because my endocrine system was a disaster due to having 2 other FULL SPECTRUM chemo treatments. I had tons of nausea. I had pre-diabetic issues as chemo never allows me to lose weight it always makes me gain weight. I also don't lose my hair with chemo. I am an odd ball. Other FULL spectrum chemos damaged my joints to where I need joint replacements. I didn't that experience here. I was just full of nausea. It's not their fault I just tend to react differently to different things. The bottom line is if you are at all concerned that this is right for you, listen to Dr. Stegall's podcast on Spotify. Its called "Cancer Secrets Podcast." I binge listened to all of these in 1 week and I was sold on the fact this was the right place for me. In the end you need to decide what is right for you. For me this was the best decision I made for my long term health in regards to Cancer Treatment. PROTIP: Get with the center before you go to plan your housing and get a layout on what places are close by for food and other services. There is a good amount of shopping to the south of the center. Lots of places to eat. Tons of housing (we went with a 1 bdr apartment). Housing suggestions I should have taken from the Center to begin with and of course there is a whole foods close by.

Scheduling my appointment was probably the most stressful scheduling experience ever, and no, im not exaggerating. I received a referral, and no one called me within 48 hours. When i finally called and connected with someone, getting an appointment was like pulling teeth. My visit with one of the doctors actually went fine. As i exited, the old black lady sitting at the check out desk was rude, abrasive, and yelled me saying "don't get excited," (when i was confused by one of her questions). A lot of people need retraining at this facility if you want repeat customers.

I can't stress enough how wonderful of an experience this was…read more I was self-referred here to restart care after having a very inefficient, no-confidence building experience at another large breast surgery practice. My GYN found a suspicious lesion on my breast during my annual exam and sent me to practice #1. It was inefficient, nonpersonal, and I had a total of 3 visits with long wait times, no time spent with the doctor before I was told I needed an invasive biopsy and several more follow up visits. Over 5 weeks my anxiety levels rose tremendously. I actually read about this practice on Yelp! and appreciated the thorough review. I also saw how many great reviews the providers had received on other review sites. Upon arrival, my anxiety dropped tremendously. The waiting room was not crowded. All staff were very personal. I saw my doctor (Dr. Bowman) across the front desk with her arm around a patient reassuring her. My wait time was minimal. The nurse (dressed in normal clothing) spent a large amount of time taking detailed notes from my history, taking time to listen to all of my concerns. The nurse was able to get my ultrasound results from a different hospital faxed over in a few minutes when I had spent hours trying to have them sent. Dr. Bowman performed ultrasound during my first visit and pointed out what was good, what was concerning, and what merited further investigation. She was willing to perform a biopsy that same day to expedite the process. I ended up scheduling it later because she reassured me that my problem seemed benign and there was no need to stress or rush. While the wait was still agonizing, i felt more confident and relieved that she did not seem worried. The biopsy was completely painless and again, she explained what she was doing as she did it in the office 1 week later. Her nurse was reassuring. The biopsy results came back 3 days later and she called me personally with the good news. My primary care physician and gynecologist commended her on how quickly Dr. Bowman sent the clinic notes to them and how thorough her notes were. I was also impressed with the office staff. There was an issue with my insurance and the office manager called me several times to ensure that everything was ironed out. Lastly, happy patients and word of mouth are great signs. At both of my visits, the few patients who were in the office at the same time as me seemed confident. They did not have long wait times to my observation. Two of the patients wished me well on my visit as if they knew how stressed I may have been. Overall, I couldn't have asked for a better experience, particularly having had a poor experience that led me here. As a medical provider myself, I value the small practice & family feel and the association with a hospital with as good of a reputation as Piedmont. They are on facebook (Atlanta Breast Care). It was not until I got home to research breast cysts that I learned about how high estrogen contributes to their growth. Sounds like something I should have been informed about during my visit given the strong correlation AND how correcting that can help prevent cancer. But instead she kept insisting for a mamo even though she clearly saw fluid filled cysts on the ultrasound. Are they going to magically turn into tumors just because its an x-ray? I get that its an additional screening tool and that they are trained to pressure ppl into them, but we had already established the main issue at hand and my tissue was also dense which makes a mamo less reliable to detect additional abnormalities. Perhaps an MRI would be a better fit for me. All that to say, I guess its not really the clinic itself thats problematic as much as the medical system in general and how it chooses to "treat" patients. Oh and the front desk person was loudly discussing my billing details in front of everyone in the lobby which I really did not like. On a lighter note, im grateful that they allowed me to get an ultrasound immediately without a referral. Now I have the information I need to seek more targeted care from a specialist.

He thoroughly explained the entire process, and during the actual treatment we met on a regular basis so he could asses what, if any side effects I was experiencing as a result of the therapy. In all our meetings he was down-to-earth, engaging, and thoroughly professional. He made me feel at ease during my treatment, and that is extremely important for anyone trying to beat cancer. As an insured, working American who pays taxes and health insurance premiums, I found it difficult to understand how basic items and routine services could be billed at prices that seem disconnected from reality. Patients don't comparison-shop during emergencies, and they shouldn't be financially punished for seeking care. The standard response is always, "That's just how healthcare works." But those prices are set by people. Leadership chooses the policies that determine what patients are charged. The medical staff earned my appreciation. The billing practices earned this review. I was in shock and was hoping this surgeon could do the procedure but stated that he couldn't and thus referred me to Dr. Shah. My first meeting with Dr. Shah was interesting. He walks in introduce him self and states Mrs. H. you have cancer. None of the other providers seen previous said it that way, but I assume now he was going to take ownership of what was to come next. Dr. Shah reviewed my tests results and requested a few more exams to be done. Dr. Shah assure me that he would be able to remove the tumor based on the space he saw around it. Needless to say the surgery went well and pathology results showed no cancer around the edges of tissue removed. I am forever grateful and was honor to have Dr. Shah for my surgeon. "Gifted hands and awesome eyesight indeed." His support staff was wonderful as well.
