I was really nervous and confused about the whole process to begin with and I was self employed so no bank would touch me even though I had great credit and a down payment ready. I have no idea how I found BBMC, but they were quick, sharp, and took time to answer every question I had. They found me a great loan and a good rate when banks, rocket mortgage, and all those other loan places you see advertised everywhere couldn't do a thing for me. Overall, getting a mortgage or refinancing sucks. You have to shop around like you're buying a car…read more In my experience, mortgage lenders are basically used car salesmen disguised as bankers. My wife and I were looking to refinance our mortgage to get rid of PMI. Our realtor recommended HomeVantage. Colin Gregg was our loan agent. Initially they gave us a good rate and it was competitive with one other offer we got from another lender. The fees were higher than other offers, they charged us a full 1% point. However Colin claimed that we could forgo two mortgage payments with HomeVantage - by not paying our mortgage until we closed on the loan with them. Since they claimed they could get it closed before we'd owe another payment. This was a draw for us....until I called our current lender and they claimed we would be charged late fees if we did that. So I ended up paying for that month and we only got one month with no mortgage payment. This ended up being a pretty big point of contention with them. They also attempted to charge us a fee for a lock extension and did not contact me to explain why this was happening until I refused to sign any more documents. At which time they relented and ate the fee they were charging us for the lock extension, which was not our problem or fault. Pretty sleazy to leave us in the dark while just randomly sending us a form adding money to the loan for not my problem. Communication was poor throughout the process. Multiple times I asked for claims that Colin made in writing via email, and this was never provided because he claimed to be "slammed". We got a decent interest rate but overall I would not recommend HomeVantage. You can do better. We got our original loan from UFCU and I would recommend them.

However, his assistant has been awful to work with. She is extremely curt in emails, is not clear with her instructions, takes an exorbitant amount of time to answer any questions, and MISPLACED our financial information. Maaaaaaybe this would have been a little easier if we had been through the process before and knew what was going on, but I don't know.
