Adams has been on the Westside for several decades, one of a handul of independent music stores in the city. Formerly on Pico near the Westside Pavillion, but they have now moved down Pico to the other side of the 405, one block West of Barrington. I took a sax there for repair, as leaky as a half-day old tuna fish sandwich, and they got it done for me at a shockingly low price. And it was repaired well, it looks plays beautifully. In addition to being affordable, they (Garrett) were friendly and helpful and their repair guy did the job promptly. I couldn't ask for better service. I also know from previous experience that they provide good rental instruments, also at reasonable rates. They have a selection music books and supplies, too, at competitive prices. With the number of music shops dwindling, I urge folks on the West side to support Adams' survival by giving them your business instead of buying supplies on line. It's a good store and a resource worth preserving for our community. read more

I needed to rent a tuba for one song in our show, and no one else in a 300-mile radius would rent one to me for less than $500/month x 6 month minimum. BTW, buying a decent tuba is $3000-$4000 unless you order one from India (yes, that India) for $1300 with a 45-day delivery time. We needed one in 3 weeks. So, after a dozen more calls, I found Adam's Music on Yelp. Adam's Music rents quality used tubas for $100/month (albeit pretty dented up but that was totally okay with me!) with no time minimum, and I am so happy to have found them. If you need to rent an instrument - any instrument because they have basically every instrument for rent - rent it here. These guys and gals are the coolest music shop around, hands down! Got my valve jammed inside my trumpet- definitely didn't want to risk a home remedy making it worse. Needed a store that could help me on a Sunday morning. Got to the store right when they opened, Sean was very helpful and accommodating and instantly gave me a jazz appropriate loaner to use for $20. They sent it off to the repair guy, and I was out of there in 15 minutes! Incredibly great place. I am a UCLA student who has been studying flute for 13 years- I brought in my custom sterling silver flute that was in need of some tuning up and cleaning. I wish I had a before picture to show how tarnished the head joint was. After being serviced it looked completely new and sounds better than it has in years. Everyone I interacted with ( I believe Garrett over the phone and the UCLA student who works at the front desk) were very friendly (typical musicians ;) ). Pricing was also very fair - feels like a great deal to have my flute restored to a like-new condition. I plan on bringing my flute here every few months now for tuning up. Awesome, awesome place for anyone who owns an instrument of any kind. I have been going to Adam's since my middle school orchestra days. The staff is super friendly and helpful. Russell, in particular, was a huge help. They have never failed to accommodate us in what we were looking for. We have had countless strings replaced and tuned for little to no cost. Additionally, they have a wide variety of music books to choose from and offer lessons. My younger sister is starting band this year and she was essentially clueless as to which instrument to pick. We asked Russell for his opinion and he immediately started to take out instruments for us to observe and get a visual feel of. Not to mention that the instruments he spent time taking out were among the heavier instruments (eg. bassoon and euphonium). If you are reading this, thanks again!!! Since starting band in 8th grade, Adam's has been amazing for everything I need them for. When I was starting, I rented a clarinet from them for a year, which I was then able to buy at a discounted rate. I was also able to get amazing lessons at a fairly affordable rate to help me catch up with my peers who have been playing since the 6th grade. Most importantly though, I know that I can trust the owner of the shop to give me a fair deal on everything, especially repairs, and let me know if something isn't worth repairing. He's a nice guy, and you can tell he's very concerned about the community. Since going to college I haven't been to Adam's, but I have them to thank for my lifelong dedication to music :) read more

An absolutely gem! I spontaneously decided I wanted to play violin at age 31 and stopped into Adam's music. They were so kind and got me set up with a violin and a contact for lessons. 2.5 years later I just purchased a beautiful (and much more expensive) violin, case, and bow. I am still taking lessons with Ann Dunn (who is amazing) and only go to Adam's for all of my music needs. They are incredibly knowledgeable, no pressure, and friendly. They also have all the school books you need if you attend SMC; even when other places are sold out, they've never let me down. I got the most beautiful, amazing, carbon fiber violin bow here for a Very competitive price and after seeing god awful shoulder rests at other places I came to Adam's and got the best shoulder rest for a way better price. They have a lot of instruments and even told me that I could come practice on their high quality violins (that I can't currently afford) anytime I want. That is so cool. I wanted to get the strings on my bass raised up a bit to fix a buzzing problem. At first we went to a large music chain to get it adjusted, but I found out the technician didn't work on the weekends, so I would have to leave it there for almost a week and for a rip-off price of $50 to get a small thing adjusted. I then went to Adam's Music and they were extremely helpful. Russell (the man helping me) quickly fixed my problem and explained to me how and why the problem happened. I was in and out in less than 10 minutes! The price was also very fair. I highly recommend this place to anyone!!! read more
