My wife and I met Randy and both immediately liked him. He sat there on the couch listening while Randy put on an absolute clinic. We learned a lot about turn tables and saw options from 500 to 225000 dollars ...and everything in between. We got to talking about things he had in stock and that's when we came across the VPI HW-40 anniversary. Number 62 of 400. I immediately fell in love. We agreed on a price and I was off with my new rig. I am blown away by how great this thing sounds. A nice benefit of dealing with a pro like Randy is that it was all set up and ready to go. I'm already back in contact discussing phono stage options. Do yourself a favor and check his shop out. You'll be glad you did.

While there, he took the time to explain all of the things that make Vandersteen's special. He even played the state-of-the-art Model 5's from back then. As a budding audio geek I was floored. Fast forward to 2018. Randy's kindness and expertise still stuck in my mind, I returned to his Santa Monica shop. This time, I was ready for the whole-enchilada! 5A Carbons, AR amp and pre amp, Basis table. The works. Randy set them up perfectly and I can't thank him enough. Randy and his team are the real deal. Highly recommended.

The rock section proved an eclectic affair... with pop artists like Taylor Swift and Sabrina Carpenter tucked in among the records and no dedicated Pop section in sight. When we inquired about used vintage players, one staff member simply pointed us toward Best Buy down the street, ending the conversation there. Despite these quirks, I did find a vinyl I'd been hoping for, and my friend also made a purchase. It's a three-star experience.

It was a pain to get here, lots of construction causing Terrible traffic and delays since we don't leave on Westside. When we went to check the movie section a store employee was sweeping around customers in that area. My husband went to look at movies and he called him out, insulting him as "oblivious". The employee was too concerned about some in store concert, moved things around. But not about getting business from customers. Rude customer service! Well, that's why folks shop online. Who needs this crap? You go through difficulties to come and support a local record store and that's what you get. No respect! On top, not enough merchandise, poor selection. Dusty. We left what merchandise we were planning on getting and left. To never return! Stay away!

He diligently checked everything, found it to be in perfectly fine working order that didn't require service, and didn't even charge me for his time. Not just because it is archaic but more importantly, every little thing I need fix (tune) required me to call my dealer who charges an arm and a leg. One day, all my speakers died, so I called my dealer, and they wanted my first born. So I decided to venture out and I found Definition AV. 1st, their service call price is very reasonable. They diagnosed the problem (the Amp died) surgically, but what's great about them is that they asked a lot of questions to truly understand my use cases. They recommended me to switch half of my system to SONOs and leave my living room TV's 5.1 audio system alone since it was still working. My previous dealer would had never recommended that because SONOs is more DIY and they would not be able to charge as much service money. Before they left, they even tuned up my 5.1 system just because they found some misconfigurations on they way. It sounded WAY better. I got the quote, the price is very reasonable and they came out quickly and upgraded my system. Now, my system works way better and I can use my voice control (my main method of controlling everything else in the house) to activate any speakers or speaker groups. I'll be a returning customer!

I found them online and called ahead to see if they had the guitar I wanted in stock. They did, and whoever answered the phone was so genuinely enthusiastic that I was excited to go make my purchase. When I got there the place was busy, with people in the back trying out guitars and a few staff floating around helping everyone. The thing that struck me right away was that all of them looked like they actually enjoyed being there. The guy who helped me, Louis, was a total rock star. I told him I was after a guitar and wanted to start taking lessons, and he immediately walked me back to meet Shawn, one of the teachers who happened to be in that day. Shawn and I hit it off, and I texted him later that day to set up my first lesson, which is this coming week. I am genuinely excited for it. The guitar I wanted was there, brand new and in flawless condition. Here is the part that really got me. I had read that silk and steel strings can be gentler on your fingers when you are starting out, so I asked about them. Instead of brushing me off, Louis walked me through the real pros and cons, and not once did it feel like he was nudging me away from them to save the shop a little money or labor, which is honestly what I half expected. I ended up deciding against them, and then he handed me a set anyway and told me to take them home, and that if I changed my mind I could come back any time and they would put them on for me free. He let me pick out a handful of picks, threw in a tuner, and even knocked a chunk off the price of the guitar without me asking. I had not even thought to ask, since it was in perfect condition. Then there was the warranty. I asked about it, they did not know off the top of their heads, and at one point something like four of the staff were working to track down an answer for me. Mind you, I had already checked out. I was buying that guitar no matter what the warranty said. They chased the answer down anyway, simply because I had asked. They also threw in a hat, which sounds like a tiny thing but genuinely made me grin. Picking up a new instrument feels like the start of something, and a small gesture like that fit the whole spirit of the place. I walked out already wanting to come back, even though I have no reason to until my lesson. This is the kind of customer service people say does not exist anymore. I am here to tell you it does, and it is alive and well at True Tone Music. I never even planned to buy my first guitar there, and now I cannot picture it having gone any other way. Huge thank you to the entire team, and to Louis & Shawn. You made my first guitar purchase a great memory.
