As I could no longer get an appointment with Dr. Lawson, I've returned to Athens Family Vision and recently had an appointment with Dr. Patel. She is also an excellent optometrist, and responded very well to a couple of my concerns. She is thorough, knowledgeable, and very kind in her manner. I will continue with her and have encouraged the rest of my family in the Athens area to give her their business.

I knew that…read moremy prescription had expired quite some time ago, so I figured I would need one of those as well. Being the procrastinator that I am (I'm a college student. What can I say?) I took the risk of calling the morning I was leaving town to return to school. I was sure they would tell me that I was going to have to come back to Athens another time, but they didn't! I was so amazed. I went to Thomas Eye Center right away and I wasn't even through filling out the paperwork before they were leading me into the room to start the exam. The people there were so nice to me and didn't make me feel bad about calling at the last second. And they really knew what they were doing! I've been to a lot of optometrists in my day, and no one has ever been has comforting and easy to work with as these guys. Especially the doctor, Dr. Noriko. She was younger, maybe mid twenties, but was obviously very knowledgable and trustworthy. I honestly probably would have let her touch my eyeball if she needed to, I had that much faith in her. And she was calming. Being in any kind of doctor's office makes me a little uneasy, but her voice was really soothing and pleasant to listen to, and she put me right at ease. The doctors there were very efficient. I must have been in and out of there in 45 minutes. Or, at least, I would have been if my father hadn't needed to speak to the lady handling the insurance and money issues. He can be a little wearing when it comes to money, but she was very patient and kind with him, which I admire. Needless to say, I don't think I'll be going anywhere else for my optical necessities. I want to tell everyone I know in the Athens area to go to Thomas Eye Center on Baxter St., and don't forget to ask for Dr. Noriko!!

At my exam on May 8, I asked whether my prescription had changed and was told it had not. Based on that, I purchased a one-year supply of contact lenses without being given trial lenses. Within days, I experienced persistent migraines and blurred vision in my left eye. After returning on June 15, I was told my left-eye prescription was incorrect and it was adjusted. This confirmed the original lenses I was sold were not correct. I also had to repeatedly follow up to get updates and resolution, and communication throughout the process was inconsistent. When I asked about a refund or replacement for the incorrect lenses, the response was unclear and the issue remains unresolved. Overall, I did not feel the care, accuracy, or follow-through met the standard expected from a vision provider, especially when prescribing and selling a full year of contact lenses.

They gave me this whole spiel about how the charge was for the refraction exam. That is baloney. I had already paid $35 copay. They are doing this because so many do not purchase glasses at the office and instead go to less expensive places. They also charged us the copay which was dishonest because we didn't use the opthmolagist but saw the optometrist which should have no copay per our insurance. This group is extremely dishonest and has figured out a way to rip off seniors and are doing it with no conscious..., creating twisted explanations to get by with it.

I walked in and he only showed me a $ 250 pair of Maui Jim and then a $ 50 pair of some cheapo to make the other one look good. He uses all the sales lingo "What are your eyes worth to you?". I should have got an Aviator style as it does not look so bad but they cost less than the most expensive ones and so I now look even older than I am (LOL). My suggestion is go in and get 2-3 in the price range and then go home and look at their reviews and make sure you are not overpaying. You will be paying full retail at this store. I wear prescription lenses. Sometimes I prefer keeping on them rather than swapping for a pair of clear spectacles, especially if I'm only inside for a few minutes. The other is that I just forget I have them on. With this disclaimer, I'm wild about Tiposi glasses. I discovered them at a local bike shop. They make a number of different styles for a variety of sports. Not only are they well made, there's a number of different styles available. Some come with multi-exchangeable lens. Rx versions available. My cousin is a medical first responder and wears the clear wrap-around styles for her protection. I got her a pair of Tiposi's and she loves them. I got myself a pair of P-frame glasses. Nice, light, and easy to self-adjust. Good price too. While it may seem odd to wear sunglasses indoors, I typically have a good reason for sporting shades inside. So if you see me wearing sunglasses indoors, they are likely from Tiposi.

He took his time to go over everything, especially since I was having so much trouble with my current contacts. Upon checking my prescription, it was discovered I had a significant change in one eye that was the culprit of my fuzzy/blurred vision. He offered me several options depending on what my budget would allow for. My other half had his eyes fully examined as well....only to discover he still had perfect 20/15 vision and only I was the one that couldn't see. Kim was extremely professional as she dilated my eyes and performed a few tests. She lightened the mood relaying to me how my hubby did not care for things near or dropped in his eyes....I laughed thinking about him trying to get away from the drops.
