The house itself is absolutely beautiful…read more Approaching the house is a well appointed garden and steps up to a wrap around porch with a lovely gazebo that would be perfect for relaxing with a drink and listening to the birds in warm weather. From the porch, you also get a peek at the Mystic River and the Mystic Seaport. (I could see the Mayflower which was on a lift at the seaport for repairs-absolutely charming.) When you walk through the front door, you are greeted by artwork, books, and a parlor off to the right. There is a baby grand piano, tuned and ready to be played in the parlor. I just loved all the hand painted details by a local artist. It is a cozy, happy room. Walk straight through the front foyer and you enter the dining room which has coffee, teas, and water available 24/7. There was a plate of cookies on the table that were home made and out of this worldA scrabble game was set and ready to go. A well rounded breakfast menu was posted and you can order whatever you like, all home made including the granola. I am gluten free and Josephine was so accommodating. I even discovered a new GF bread that I thought was better than most I have tried. Josephine has a talent in the kitchen to say the least. Everything was delicious. There is a lot of local information on where to go and what to do. OK- now, the Mermaid Room This is not a large room but it has everything you need (including a little fridge) and the hand painted walls are an absolute study. To think one young lady produced all that art, a talent to be admired. There are 3 more rooms upstairs but I wanted to be on the main floor. I found the location perfect. It is not on the main drag so it isn't noisy but just walk a couple of blocks and you are right in the middle of downtown Mystic with all the glorious restaurants, cute shops, and a drawbridge over the Mystic River. 100% charm. See how many mermaids you can count‍. I will definitely go back. I would like to go on a river cruise next time. I am recommending the Mermaid Inn to all my friends and family.

The amenities are top notch, still with a touch of sweet whimsy. The modern, granite bath/shower, in the Blue Room, was complimented by a beautiful mermaid mural. The mantle was decorated with a charming mermaid fresco. The soft shades of blue made for a serene environment & I slept like a baby on the comfy white, wrought-iron bed. Breakfast was delicious! Challah bread French toast with a medly of berries one day, a delicious lobster quiche on another. The Inn is Victorian, the theme is all things mermaid but, the heart of it all is the proprietor & hostess, Ms. Josephine! She could not have been more welcoming & accommodating. Thank you, Josephine, for a restful & rejuvenating stay at your lovely Mermaid Inn!

Furthermore, the…read morehome page features a picture of a child swimming, so obviously it didn't even cross my mind that it would be an issue. You don't find out until you've gone through the entire booking process, and only then will you find out if you happen to read through your entire confirmation. Also, the policy isn't clear - it just says they can't accommodate children because they don't have additional beds? I travel with my six year old and we usually share a bed, so I thought maybe they would make an exception for us. When I tried to call for clarification, the phone just rings and rings - no one even answers. I finally had to call the Residence Inn and the front desk girl told me there definitely weren't kids allowed in the mansion - but beyond that, they didn't handle the bookings and that I'd have to contact booking.com to try to cancel. Thank goodness I happened to notice before we actually went to the location. I don't have a problem with the policy - I have a problem with it not being stated ANYWHERE until after they have your credit card number. Imagine if we'd shown up and had nowhere to go? Thumbs down. Also, I won't mention what I do for a living, but given this mansions "haunted" reputation, I will say they just missed out on a huge opportunity for exposure.

We arrived and it was by no means what we expected. We got into the house but there was no one there and no one answered the phone when we called. Another guest told us we had to check in at the Marriott. The house is from the 1700's, so that was cool. The room was a little darker than I'd like. It had only 1 lamp to light the whole room. The bathroom on the other hand, had 3 lights, which was helpful. Bed was comfortable and complementary breakfast was also a bonus.
