Beautifully updated, with a comfy bed and great big windows.

Staff were all very friendly and helpful. The rooms were beautifully updated recently with new comfy beds. The room was very nice. The only thing I would recommend is that they up their cleaning practices. There was lots of dust in our room, including things like the windowsill, the top of the headboard, the phone, lampshade, etc. There was also lots of little hairs left over from previous guests in the bathroom, along the edges and corners of the floor and shower. It wasn't disgusting by any means and I still felt very comfortable in the room. The pool was nice. The complementary breakfast was average; nothing special, but it did the trick. I would definitely go back there and do not feel like any of the very small issues deserves to take a star away.

    Ant on bed, first day.

We decided to take a spring break family trip and chose a traditional hotel stay to avoid egregious cleaning fees for a private rental. My husband settled on the Hyatt. Overall, the value was good. We had a King bed that was reasonably comfortable, plus pull out sofa for our 6 year old that I did not lay on but it looked uncomfortable (which my family confirmed). The employees were very friendly, polite, and accommodating. My son loved the Continental Breakfast. I probably wouldn't stay at a Hyatt again, however. If you're looking for a quiet place to sleep and keep your belongings and don't care about "frills," this may be a great family-friendly budget option. So, why my feelings/low rating? - [ ] It felt low-budget. The furnishings just felt cheap. Our 3 night stay came out to around $400 with taxes, which I consider inexpensive. There's few extras. The bathroom has built in bodywash/shampoo/conditioner. They provided 1 small bar soap, lotion, and 1 makeup wipe. No cottonballs/Q tips, etc. The first room smelled stale. The 2nd was better. - [ ] The website photos are limited. When we arrived, the room felt cramped and the bathroom is split. The shower and toilet are in the rather cramped "bathroom," while the mirror/sink/counter are right outside it. It doesn't allow for any privacy to dress/undress. If someone wakes in the middle of the night to use the toilet, presumably they're going to wake you when they use the sink since it's in the room. - [ ] Because the bathroom is so cramped, you have to move over to close the door, and there's no shelf to put your things. There's a hook on the back of the door that I used for my towel. - [ ] Continental Breakfasts are bad in general. Theirs is on par with what I expected. No better and no worse than anywhere else. I'm lactose intolerant and had dairy-free options, including oat milk for my coffee (though I traveled with my own milk). However, the fresh fruit seemed less than fresh, and I questioned the freshness of the hard boiled eggs. - [ ] My main complaint is that our first room had ants. I found 3 the first day, and 2 more the next morning. Plus, the toilet was leaking. We spoke to the front desk and were moved right away. We had no issues with the 2nd room. However, the new room had no rubber shower mat. Overall, it wasn't bad, but it wasn't great either. We saved money and spent a limited amount of time in the room so it worked for a short trip. It's centrally located to Mystic Aquarium and Village, Seaport, downtown Mystic, etc. and 95. You can in fact hear highway traffic faintly if you wake during the night. The hotel itself was fairly quiet except for the occasional slamming of room doors. I would be hard pressed to call this a 3-star hotel.

Appreciate the availability of my room at 7am w/o paying an extra $30. That said, I specifically requested a room away from the elevator. The room, #318, that I got was right next to the elevator. So there's a disconnect somewhere. Breakfast was a decent offer. Nothing fancy. Very family friendly property, if that's what you prefer. Lastly, WiFi and cellphone reception was horrible in certain parts of the property. If you need to be constantly connected, you might want to look elsewhere. Ps. The hotel billed me $5 for the Fiji water that I didn't touch. I guess that it wasn't their first time doing this to unsuspecting tourists. What a scam!

I stayed here on NYE 2015 for a wedding down the street. The staff was delightful and offered us a free sangria upon arrival. Our room, 206, was pleasantly large (with a nice couch/kitchenette area in additon to the bed. The bathroom is rather tiny but workable. Everything was pleasantly clean too. We had to sign a "no party" waiver. I am not sure if that was a New Year's thing or general protocol but it mattered not since I'm 45 and am over partying in hotel rooms. My only complaint is a tiny one, our mini fridge was groaning throughout the night. I discovered in the morning that it was set all the way up (leaving my water bottles frozen). I would definitely stay at this or other Hyatts again. Decent value for a nice room.

At over $615 per night, we expected a much better experience\. When we arrived, the toilet in our room was broken\. It took approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes to repair, during which time we couldn't use the bathroom or shower before going out to dinner\. The bathtub also wasn't draining properly until we finally figured out a way to get it to drain ourselves\. In addition, the refrigerator wasn't cold on the first day\. We had actually called ahead to ask them to make sure it was turned on because we experienced the same issue during a previous stay\. The next day, we returned to the room to put our baby down for a nap and found contractors installing new carpet directly outside our door\. The constant hammering and nailing made it impossible for our baby to sleep\. We asked if the work could pause for just an hour, but we were told no\. The only solution offered was to move us to a much smaller room where the only bathroom was located inside the children's sleeping area, which wasn't a practical option for our family\. The staff offered us a bottle of wine as compensation, we declined\. We then asked if there was another way to make the situation right, such as adjusting our room rate, but the manager said no\. We've always enjoyed staying at The Whaler's Inn, which makes this experience particularly frustrating\. Maintenance issues can happen, but multiple room problems, disruptive construction during the day without accommodation, and the lack of a meaningful resolution left us feeling that the value did not match the price we paid\. We hope management will take this feedback seriously and improve the guest experience\.we will not be coming back . I do not recommend - the staff were SO RUDE

Wow, were they right…read more From the warm greeting at the door to the beautiful decor, the experience started strong. We were seated at a lovely table for two overlooking Main Street - watching people stroll by from that elevated perch behind glass felt almost cinematic. The real star of the show was the food, which is ultimately what you're there for, and it delivered. The menu offers plenty of options without being overwhelming. I started with the Crispy Pig's Head as an appetizer - a bold choice that turned out to be outstanding. For my entrée, the bucatini with seacoast mushrooms, sherry, parmesan, mushroom cream, and fine herbs was perfectly cooked, and carried a subtle but deeply flavorful sauce. And the housemade sourdough with poblano honey butter? Absolutely outstanding. To be fair, our server took a little time to warm up but found their footing and gave us everything we needed. Parking in Mystic on a busy weekend night can also be a challenge and expensive. Neither is reason enough to skip this one. Ship Wright's Daughter is exactly the kind of restaurant Mystic deserves. Don't wait for a special occasion -- just go.

I really didn't want to write this review, but potential patrons should know what they can expect…read morewhen working with the event staff at Shipwright's Daughter - if they plan to have a private dining experience and event there. My husband and I got married last December. We decided we would hold off on celebrating with our family and invite everyone out from California to join us for a weekend full of activities in Connecticut and a special dinner at Shipwright's Daughter during Memorial Day weekend. We contacted the restaurant's events team to work out high level details starting in late January - to book a private room and hold a date and time. From the get go, the communication we received from the event staff was dismal to say the least. Not only did the events manager misquote the estimate for the room reservation, she came back and asked for a much higher price (up charging by an additional 30% of the original minimum fee) two months after we confirmed and discussed the date. She then explained it was due to the holiday weekend. Our date had never changed from the moment we inquired, so we would have appreciated knowing this upfront. Over the course of several months (and an absurd number of emails and a few calls), we tried to solidify the menu and wine selection and made multiple attempts before hearing back from the team. It was about two weeks before the big event when we were able to confirm a menu. It was about four days before the event that we heard back from the beverage director, but by then, my husband and I had already decided we would bring our own wine bottles, not wanting to leave it to chance with this team. I won't go into further details about the frustration we felt regarding their system for communications (they use an internal system that doesn't make it easy for guests to know who is copied on emails and who sees what). That is something I hope they will work out. When the big day came, I walked into the room and noticed there were a number of chairs missing, so I counted the chairs. They had an incorrect number of chairs for adults and not enough high chairs for the toddlers. We had requested a specific number of these chairs (weeks prior and mentioned it multiple times in writing), and I thought it was safe to assume that this was a basic checklist item for events set up. I was dumbfounded in the moment. I couldn't help but wonder what else they were going to miss or mess up that evening. It was disappointing to have our family members wait while the staff scrambled to pull other chairs into the room. From the time it took to take everyone's order from the set menu, the time between courses being served, and the attentiveness for pouring water and wine - all of it was a miss. The level of hospitality that we expected from a restaurant so recognized for its incredible food and approach to sustainable sourcing was completely overshadowed by the lack of attention and care by its staff - since day one of planning this event. Even a few of our family members commented on this during the dinner. At the end of the day, we felt like an obligation rather than welcomed guests, and that is mainly why I'm leaving this review. We had been patrons of Shipwright's a couple of times prior to this event, which is why we chose this establishment - to represent the best that Connecticut has to offer, when it comes to a dining experience we could vouch for. We no longer feel that we can recommend this restaurant. If you care about hospitality, I would recommend looking elsewhere.
