A true Oktoberfest in Texas This is as close to the real think as you are going to get in the USA, the beer tent is perfect, and air conditioned making a great place to hang out and get out of the heat. The beer, is cold and Spaten on tap never will be a bad choice. Choose from dark or light, both are great. You need to buy tickets to enjoy your food and beverage, and the food is pretty good, but not great. What makes everything great is that you will end up getting drunk, and having fun with friends and family and that is what Oktoberfest is all about! For kids they have rides and fun stuff, and this makes the Addison Oktoberfest a great family outing. read more

I will preface this by saying I'm really not the biggest beer fan in America. I do like the lighter variety and ciders. It's a fun festival definitely to check out with friends but I wouldn't say it's that family friendly. I was hoping they'd have more for vino lovers like myself but they never do. More of a variety, maybe more vendors would make this one more memorable. Parking in Addison is always a headache as well. If you're like me and not really into drinking a million different beers I'd say skip it or just go to your local brewery. But otherwise have at it! I love Oktoberfest. I love the beer and I love seeing drunk people around me only after I've emptied out my stein. I broke my glass stein a few years back so I went this year to replace it with the commemorative ceramic mug. The outside vendors were already out of the mug which was a bummer. Luckily I went inside the food hall and they still had a big pile of them. So if a vendor tells you they're out, go to the food hall to secure your stein. The food hall's food wasn't that great honestly. The bratwurst was dry, the potato was undercooked, and the sauerkraut was awful- and I enjoy a strong kraut. It was a good thing I had already eaten at the SIEGI's sausage factory booth. Their grilled reuben was amazing. The sandwich was wrapped in foil and it remained toasty all the way to the last bite. The schnitzel sandwich was great too. They were each $6. I always come home with a bag of kettle corn and this year I bought 2. It was burnt. :( I was a bit bummed. Overall, I had a blast. I'm sure it was because I was full of beer and sandwiches but I don't mind because Oktoberfest only comes once a year. cliffs: get sandwiches from Siegi park in the garage nearby because it's FREE! bring cash. the ticket lines are a lot shorter if you do bring your own stein. beer is cheaper that way read more

First and last day of the festival is free for all. If your diligent you can fine a free parking space. I wasn't but I a $10.00 attended on me. I wasn't fast enough to out the and get by pass him too. So I let him do his job( ticket please.! Well I'm right by the main entrance and meet with my book club friend On Another Level. I must say that outside vendors had more to offer. We went to the tent and I got s sausage in stick. It was mildly warm with heat. I wonder how they're keeping this stuff hot. I must have strudel. The offering in the tent was like a sad Pop Tart that knew it would finish hereafter in the trash. So glad we came out side. There was tower fries, big cups for lemonade, beer or sausage and of course authentic strudel. It was wonderful seeing the diversity come and enjoy the festivities. read more

Went late evening/night on Saturday. Entrance fee is $10 per person (except on Thursday it's free), and prepare to circle around a few times for parking. Pretty much every venue inside is paid with tickets. There were two main tents that I saw selling tickets. I recommend going to the one farther inside near the food (obviously) to avoid the longer lines. Overall, it's a great place to visit if you have a free evening with some friends. If you're not going to drink or you don't like beer, then it's probably not the place for you. I recommend getting the mug for 15 tickets and then getting refills for 7 tickets each. It's a way better deal than buying little plastic cups that look about 16oz. If you've never been before, I'd compare it to a very small-sized state fair. There's a section for kids with games that eat your money and little rides that take you in circles. The adult/food/beer section is separated by a blocked off street and infinite port-a-potties. There were tons of things to eat, but we didn't get much because we just finished dinner before getting there. From what I remember, I saw crepes, red velvet funnel cakes, huge turkey legs, German sausages, and saurkraut themed items. I recommend the dark beer (biased because I always go for dark); I can't remember the name of it, but it was the one in the middle when you see the different icons. I also tried the wheat one, but I wasn't a huge fan. Schloss was packed and I didn't see a single table that was opened. Almost felt like a warehouse with hay and concrete. Great place to hear loud, live music when it's hot outside. However, it wasn't hot outside by the time we went since the sun had set by that time anyway. Would recommend going if you have never been before. It's the one time a year that people pretend to be Germans. The drunk people didn't get too ostentatious, so it's an enjoyable experience for everyone. read more

So is that time of the year to have some beer and some sausage. Well at first me and my friends was planning on go to Oktoberfest on Sunday and watch some NFL afterward. But guess what I found out that if you go there on Thursday, you get to go in for free. Since we are all traditional Asian, we have decided to go there on Thursday instead of Sunday. So lets go on to the beer and food. The beer with a mug cost 15 dollar. Well not super expensive or super cheap but you get to bring a souvenir home, so I guess is worth it. The funnel cake is 6 dollars,turkey leg was 8 dollars similar to the one in the state fair. In addition, they have an indoor area with couches, TV, games like skeetballs, connect 4 ETC and is all for free. So is not bad when you are with a date there. I think overall it was a fun and good experience, I should return next year. read more

Throngs of assholes drunk on beer, but at least a beer drunk is not a mean drunk, just a stupid drunk. Nighttime hours are sloppy college aged kids drunk, daytime hours are family drunks. Lines are long, the yellow bathroom building lines moved quickly and the event staff worked hard to keep it lean and orderly. Never went to the port-a-potty area, gross. Had a $7 beer in a plastic cup, a $6 Reuben from Seigis with about a tablespoon of meat but good bread, and 2 fritters one of which I gave to a parking attendant for $18. Thursday nights music was so annoying, white people who can't sing yodeling, it was hell. Music improved as the weekend progressed. I wouldn't pay much more than $5 to frequent again and I would never pay to park. Addison Circle park is pretty cool without all the drunk assholes. read more

Addison has the reputation for the best Oktoberfest celebration in the US. I have to agree. Last year I attended the actual Oktoberfest in Munich. The US is not really comparable to that celebration in Germany, mostly because the crowds are not as into it in the US, but Addison does a great job. The one area where the US betters the German Oktoberfest in my opinion is in the food. We attended the Chamberlains area in the main tent, which overlooks the main floor. Richard Chamberlain does a fantastic job. The 3 course meal was outstanding! The appetizer/salad course included a German potato pancake with pieces of thick and incredibly delicious bacon prepared in a way I can't describe. My wife doesn't even like bacon and she loved the dish. Chamberlains Oktoberfest meal (paired with 3 different German beers or wine) is a fantastic deal and if you have not tried that, you are missing it. read more

I'm from a small town and at least at our Oktoberfests there provided a variety of beer brands to choose from; here, you could only buy Paulaner. VERY disappointing! I live across the street and have been looking forward to oktoberfest for some time. However, starting on Friday night they shut down all beer sales 2 hours prior to close instead of 1 hour (except for one area which made lines insane). Beer selection: weak at best with 3-4 choices. The large tent smelled like horrible stank. If you're a single guy hoping to enjoy the scenary of girls dressed up... don't hold your breath. Food... ehh. You may be told your ticket is good for the whole weekend. However, this is not true. I just tried to use my ticket so I could finish up the rest of my beer and food tickets leftover from last night. Denied at the front unless you want to spend another $20 to get in. Sold my food tickets at a discount just to unload them. Overall... I have NO IDEA why you would make the effort to come out here. A great Oktoberfest and the closest thing to Munich that I have experienced in the U.S.A. For sure it is not Oktoberfest Munich and it is a long way from it, but for an American Oktoberfest, it is a great time. There are games and rides for the kids and different kinds of event, foods and booths.. The best part though is the beer. This year it was Paulaner on tap, with both lager and Oktoberfest brews. It is interesting to see the American approach to Oktoberfest as opposed to the German approach. Here the participants are pretty sober throughout the day and night; whereas, in Munich, by 11:00 A.M. half the participants are already plastered and by 11:00 P.M. everyone has either left drunk, or remains at the party in state of total drunkenness. read more

The staff at Siegi's was friendly enough to give us a Stein filled with beer when we were short 2 tickets. Another thing that stood out was the Red Velvet Funnel Cake drizzled with cream cheese. My new favorite type of funnel cake. Beats the classic one out of the water. Two years ago I had the pleasure of enjoying this festival. This year I was saddened by the horrific service I received from the caterers in the main tent. The service was a disgrace and don't even want to think about the horrific food. Do they call this Oktoberfest because of Halloween? This sausage, saurkraut, and potato salad plate diffinately was a nightmare. The only thing that was edible was the store bought frozen rolls. The sausage tasted old and freezer burnt, the saurkraut out of the can was mushy because it had been cooking all day, and the potato salad was runny and had an overwhelming amount of dill. We had to wait 15 minutes to get a fork before my friend went past the counters to find one himself. We came at the last hour, but still had to pay full admission on the last day. As a lover of German events, I do not approve and will not be going back. Poor job Town of Addison! read more

Copy of text sent to Event Director and Addison City Manager: I am a disabled Vietnam Veteran and attended this event for the first time, today. I read the entire contents of the website, in advance and nowhere was it stated that I could not bring my own water. At the bag check, I was told that entry would be refused if I failed to pour the water out of my thermos. On top of that, I found the prices usurious and beyond the scope of anything bordering on reasonable. $10 for 5 minutes in the bubble pool? $8 for beer refill? $3 for a small bottle of water that cost $.10 at Sam's? I had my 9 year-old son with me and he and I were saddened and frustrated. He thought his $20 was going to last at least an hour. I don't want to hear about blah-blah vendor's set the prices; blah-blah we never get complaints, etc. I can tell you for sure my family will never return and we will use social media to let others know they need $100 per person MINIMUM just for a half day. read more

We bought the Chamberlain Brau Haus package, which was a first. I had no idea what to expect but was happy when I discovered you are seated with a bunch of strangers and served food and beer. This opens the experience up to meet new people whilst indulging in great beer and fantastic food. Staff was very accommodating and attentive. I will definitely do this in the future! read more

This is my second year attending. My main issue is that I felt like everywhere I turned someone was trying to get me to buy something and try to win something by registering for something. I just wasn't interested. I dislike that you have to buy tickets in advance...I feel like you are ultimately going to end up with tickets left over unless you plan really well. The music was often non-German but there was German music and dance and beer. Went Thursday night when it was free...unless they have more events the other nights I think I'd been disappointed if I had paid $5 or $10 in admission. read more

I had such high hopes for my first time to Oktoberfest. This was highly unorganized and seemed to be overrun by hoodlums. The organizers had about ¼ of the number of ticket booths necessary, as the lines were absolutely horrible. The food was mediocre at best and there was no selection. I have only been to Oktoberfest since 2011. Always had to work or be out of town for one reason or another. But in 2011 I went with my girlfriend and we were both hooked. This year was just as much fun as it was the last 3 years. With another collector mug on my shelf in my office at home, I have next year to look forward to. This year, we did it right. Got a hotel right across the street which got us easy access so we could drink to our heart's content without fear of driving drunk. Filled my belly up with schnitzel, bratwurst, sour kraut, and Paulenar. I do like Spaten Oktoberfest brew better, but as Paulenar is one of the big 6 sold in Munich for their festival, I am more than happy with it. Lots of pretty women in Oktoberfest dresses. Being attached, I can only look, but that is fine with me. All in all, great time to be had by all, and if you don't like beer then there is plenty of good food to be had instead. read more

Not worth it or worth only going once. Basically a cheap, over crowded, HOT, and over priced state/county fair type with a few German words posted for an Octoberfest EFFECT. Defiantly NOT a family event, and definitely not going more than once( or not at all ) in ones lifetime. You don't get that German cultural feel. The entertainment in the big tent, which is extremely loud, and the place stunk. The other area, bowl stage, the entertainment was also substandard. This was a Saturday so the entertainment should have been the best but it was like watching b- grade high school show. The saddest part of all is the city of Addison basically turns off, very low low pressure, to water fountains that worked the weekend before at the pavilions around that area. So the only way to hydrate yourself in the 98 deg hot sun is to spend a ton of money on $3/bottle water. I was there for 3-4 hours and bought four bottles of water just for myself. There are plenty of ways for the city of Addison to make money but to turn off the water to fountains is just being greedy. Save yourself time, a headache and money. Just go to the Texas State Fair( much more fun) and then buy your self a German beer= 100 times better than Octoberfest in Addison. There is nothing German about this and an insult to Octoberfest! read more
