Last was the brisket taco, only because it was slightly more dry. Since it was my birthday, we brought a cake in with us. The manager herself, Teka, came to the table and wished me a happy birthday!!! She went above and beyond!!! She, out of the kindness of her heart, offered me a celebratory birthday shot and let borrow a kitchen knife to help me cut my birthday cake :) Teka, really cares about the restaurant and her employees, she really shines and takes care of everything while she is in charge. It wasn't bad, though -- we did finish it. My boyfriend had the fish tacos and said they were phenomenal. I, on the other hand, ordered the half chicken, which was unfortunately way overcooked and really tough to chew. For sides, the zucchini was excellent, but the "loaded mac n cheese" was horrible -- easily the worst part of the meal. I actually had to send it back. When it rains, there are beer buckets everywhere trying to catch water pouring in from the ceiling. There are puddles all over the floor and parts of the ceiling look like they could cave in at any time. It feels extremely unsafe for customers and staff. Every weekend they bring in bands, but there is never enough seating. People are forced to stand and hover over others who are seated because there simply aren't enough tables. Adding more high-top tables would help tremendously. The tables, chairs, and bar stools that are there are in awful condition--many are broken, wobbly, and the cushions are completely worn out or missing. The overall cleanliness is also a problem. The bar needs a serious deep cleaning. There are cobwebs hanging from signs inside, exposed electrical wires in places, and the clear drinking glasses are not always properly cleaned. I've personally received drinks in glasses that still had lipstick marks on them. The bathrooms are another issue. The stall doors don't close properly and several toilet seats are loose. They are clearly overdue for repairs and updating. The only bright spot is the wait staff--they are friendly and do their best. But it's frustrating that you almost never see the owners around addressing any of these problems. With the amount of business this place gets on weekends, it's disappointing that basic maintenance, safety, and cleanliness seem to be ignored. This place has potential, but right now it feels poorly maintained and unsafe.

What ended up being an even better surprise, though, was the staff. Jay, the manager, and Tiff, our server, absolutely understand what great customer service looks like. From the very first visit, they've made us feel genuinely welcome and consistently go out of their way to make sure we're well taken care of. That kind of hospitality keeps people coming back.
