From the moment I phoned the staff were very friendly, eager to help and give our pooch the best quality care possible. They arranged to have his records transferred to read through his notes before his first appointment and when we walked in we were welcomed and the environment was calming, caring and not rushed. In the first consult Dr P checked him over asking him if she can check here and there and our pooch was completely relaxed and even fell asleep in the waiting room afterwards while we were arranging the follow up! As opposed to some vet clinics I've been to, every vet we've seen here with our 2 dogs has had a wonderful "bedside manner". By this I mean they don't try to get you in and out, but take the time to get to know you and your 4 legged friend. They offer professional advice and specific diet options. The puppy pre school class is well run with the lady running it having a nice disposition and a good understanding of puppy behaviour. I've seen some of these classes run by people who have no place working in a vet clinic. Thankfully that's not the case here. They also have a good range of food stocked, so if you're running low and need some specific food NOW then you'll probably find it here.

These guys give me the option to take out a Total Wellness Plan for each of my dogs which includes for 12 months their shots, worming, flee treatments, first consultant free, and a variety of other benefits at the set price of $295. They generally post out your treatments in the mail shortly before the due dates. Something I that has given me peace of mind and saved me a lot of money. The staff here and very professional and attentive. I've been very happy with how they've handled my pups, their spoken knowledge, and their good use of calming ways of talking to my dogs. They also generally provide treats for the dogs in times of restlessness, which is extremely helpful! Some criticisms I have for Adelaide Animal Hospitals are a couple times I've come for appointments they've been understaffed where I've had to wait up to half an hour past my appointment time, but never mind. I also find some of their prices a tad bit expensive. I think I pay $30 for nail clipping per dog.

I guess this is their way of saving costs for us, but hey...I'm not vet trained! That's why I think their Total Wellness Plan is worth considering for $393pa for dogs 10-20kg. It's a twice yearly checkup, includes worming, flea and heartworm treatment monthly and use of their dog washing facility. Hoping it will relieve the stress of looking after our favourite canine.

But like a good doctor, you end up finding a favourite and sticking with them. Unley Vet is such a place. As my childhood friends (and pseudo brothers and sisters to said only child) began to get a lot older and more decrepid, we would rely on the caring and loving nature of the local female vets at this clinic. They would always provide a range of care options and were so knowledgeable about everything that was going on with our (what felt like) 100 year old cats and dogs that we knew we could trust leaving them over night or staying there in their care. Fast forward 12 years on and there was no question where I would take my little baby (kitten) for his first vaccinations and care. The service is still just as friendly, they get excited by your pet's name, let alone their personality, and have even sent us additional "your first kitten" information since we went there. Prices are reasonable and advice is non-bias and brief but they always have time for you to answer more questions or are happy to send out more information. If only Dr Harry or the Bondi Vet worked here...

However I guess if you're at the vet with your adorable pet you are most likely in need of some professional assistance! We have been frequenting Unley Vet for many years with an assortment of dogs and cats in their latter years and all the vets there have been absolutely invaluable and supportive in their care and advice. They truly love animals and treat yours as if they are the most gorgeous and beautiful in the world (which of course they are)! Our current cat was a foundling abandoned on their doorstep at 2 weeks old who they hand reared and named until we could take him home so Unley Veterinary Surgery holds a special place in our hearts however I can unbiasedly endorse their professional approach and care. And if you're looking for a general check-up for your special pooch or feline and they are in tip top shape there is no charge!! A bonus just to know they are A-ok!

A dog will do anything to defend its owner, as will a cat under certain circumstances. You would not take your child to any old doctor or a different doctor every time it was ill would you? Once you had found a health provider that was really good with your charge, you'd return eh?
