Francisco does not listen to his customers! I told him I was growing out my hair and wanted a short bob. He said it wasn't right for me and started chopping away. DON'T GO HERE I wish I read the yelp reviews before I booked. Francisco gave me a horrible cut and color. They styled it when I left in a way that hid my normal middle part which made it difficult to see the color - which is why I didn't initially say anything. But over the next few days I started finding more and more things wrong and by the time I saw everything I had no confidence he'd be able to fix this. So I went in and asked for a refund for the $450 and he said most they could do is $100. I then stated that its going to be $300 to fix it (Carbon Salon). He said the most he could do is $200. I said thats insane and he then TOLD HIS COWORKER TO CALL THE COPS for harassing his customers (I wasn't talking to his customers at all) and said "now you get nothing" and threatened to call the cops on me again. Keep in mind that when he finished my hair he said "this isn't my best job, just hoping you don't write a bad review". Here we are. I left and they ended up calling back and offering the $200 for the $370 total in services. I had to push to get my tip back for a $275 refund out of the $450. I went to get a full foil, cut and blow dry. I started with a carmel brown hair color and was expecting a full head of blended highlights and understood I would be in the chair for 3-4 hours. This took 5 hours and is not blended whatsoever. She was rushed towards the end which was the top and sides of my head and continuously took phone calls when I have a head full of foils. Obviously was not prepared for my hair to lift as quickly as it did and didn't check until it was too late. The back and underside of my head looks great but the top and sides are not done well. The highlight doesn't go to the root and she refused to tone my hair. I asked for a trim and got 2 inches off. The stylist told me to come back in 4 MONTHS for her to get me to the blonde I requested. She knew it wasn't what I wanted. I didn't realize how bad it was until I got home. The photos tell you enough to not book here if you want a lot of blended highlights. Honestly not even sure about a hair cut. It's so choppy in the front and I lost so much length that I loved. Again I was in the chair for 5 HOURS, no one offered water, a bathroom, or a stretch break. I was given all my money back after a phone call and returning to the salon to make sure it was refunded 30 minutes after I left. read more

I will never return here- i have been to Adelas twice now and been incredibly dissatisfied both times. First i went to get a simple face framing highlights (I'm blonde) and next i scheduled a corrective service because the first time turned out bad. The first time Francisco agreed he could correct it during the next appointment when my hair came out orange, so I tried to give him the benefit of the doubt. But then when I came back for our corrective appointment he was 45 minutes late and didn't even do the service I asked for (highlights). I tried to discuss and asked clarifying questions as I could tell he was messing up. I tried to be kind because he seemed frazzled throughout the entire appointment and I could tell there was possibly a miscommunication... but he kept dismissing my questions and he started working on 2 new clients before he was done with my hair and then when I asked for more highlights he told me I should've planned MY time better. I wish I would've taken before and after photos because I paid $250 for my hair to look much worse than before. Terrible service. read more

An artist with attention to detail starting at the root to the end and including those little pieces of hair that are hard to get - Francisco is able to get them and shape them which is what makes a difference in the overall volume , bounce and shine. I went in for a fist time (in my life) color treatment and asked Christina to color/highlight my very thick and black hair. She was amazing - she got the right color tone and offered me a few options for a haircut taking into account what I was looking for and even offered to have me get another cut within a week if I wasn't happy with what I had. So unprofessional. The worst haircut of my life. Despite my asking for one type of haircut, the stylist gave me a different one and did it inaccurately. The customer service is really poor... constant interruptions by the stylist for a phone calls. After I said that I was not satisfied with the results, the stylist simply told me that he wasn't going to do anything about it and just ran away, leaving me in the chair with hair all around me... I asked for a haircut/trim only and she insisted she washes and styles my hair because it's included. I am black and know how to style my hair well and didn't want to deal with someone not knowing how to style my hair. She did a good job after my haircut and insisted again that she washes it and I said no it's okay and made up an excuse about not wanting to pay too much for someone to style my hair because usually it's more for the thickness I have. Yes she persisted and I am naive so I gave her the benefit of the doubt. I explained how I drench my hair in heat protectant and I don't think she got the memo because she did put it in my hair but not as sectioned and as thoroughly as I like it. I also told her to go closer to my scalp because she was not getting close enough and she still didn't. I walked out the salon with my hair pouffier than when I arrived. A total WASTE of time and money. I should've listened to my instinct and walked out when I had the chance. I don't care if I had to go home and straighten my hair while paying the same price that I just did. I now have to go home and still do my hair anyways because, again, my hair is so puffy at the roots! A waste of 2 hours in the chair. Cherry on top is that she did not ask for a tip but I am stupid and naive and believes everyone deserves a 20% tip. I really do hate myself for this decision. read more

Horrible experience. Spent two hours coloring my hair and the color did not take. Owner said he'd have to redo it and then he left and left me with another stylist. Another 90 minutes. Second color wasn't right either then she proceeded to cut WAY too much of my hair. Very unhappy. Owner also would not wear a mask. Charged me $240 for the bad job. This has never happened to me before so I am sure it was his color. read more

It's very frustrating to pay $300 for a cut and color and not get what you asked for. I came in with a picture of the exact hair coloring I wanted. The stylist said she understood and then she started. As soon as I noticed her doing the highlights into my roots I stopped her because that was not what I asked for. After I explained again what I wanted she said "well with spring and summer coming you'll want more blonde all over, trust me it'll be great and we can always tone it down at the end." I've always aired on the side of keeping my mouth shut so I figured I would trust her. Well the final product and what I showed her couldn't be more different even though she kept emphasizing how beautiful it came out. I would have gone back to have it corrected but based on other reviews and the stylists insistence that her vision for my hair was better that what I asked for, I booked an appointment elsewhere and spent even more to have it fixed. My wife came to this place while we were in Boston to get her hair done for a wedding. She made an appointment because it was close to our hotel and seemed like a nice enough place. When she came for her appointment she brought a picture of the style she wants. The guy doing her hair said it wouldn't be a problem. While working on my wife's hair, the stylist burned some of it because it got stuck in the blow dryer... he had to cut it off because it was so damaged. To add insult to injury, the style came out completely different from the picture. When my wife brought this up, the guy became insane... instead of apologizing he started ranting that it was my wife's intention to not pay all along and he knew it from the start. He was yelling at the top of his lungs like a stuck pig in front of other customers. My wife ended up walking out almost in tears with one hour to repair the damage. My haircuts here are rarely even. Once I had to go back twice to have them actually do what I asked them the first time. My sister went for a dye job recently and not only did they not do what she asked for but they left dye on her scalp that burned a welt on her skull. When she called to explain this to Francisco he refused to refund her money and went so far as to whine about all the time they had spent with her. I had to call them back and demand the $300 back. Also when she realized she made the mistake, she felt really bad and apologized but continued to do a bad job. I'm a bit upset writing this review, but I was treated so poorly that I thought it was needed. I called Adela's salon in the hopes I could speak to the owner, Francisco, about booking an appointment for a patient of mine. It was going to be a therapeutic outing to get her first haircut after a severe burn injury - a big step after a traumatic event. I wanted to speak to the stylist about her condition and review appropriate questions, etc. to make sure he was comfortable (some people are not) and that it would be a good match to make her feel confident and beautiful. When I called and asked if I could speak to him, and said that I was from the nearby hospital, I was told point blank, "He's not interested in speaking to you". So I followed up with that I just wanted to make an appointment for my patient. The woman I spoke to said "You can do that with me" and I responded, "Oh, it's for a burn patient. I would really like to speak to him to make sure he's comfortable and-" She cut me off, "He's comfortable- do you want to make an appointment?". I was a little taken back by her attitude and rude tone, so I stumbled over my words and said, "No, I-I think I'll call back" to which she responded, "Ooh I see" and hung up on me before I could explain further. I was really disappointed in the interaction and how I was spoken to. I wasn't asking for anything, but his time to speak to me and prepare for the visit. I could've given my information for a more convenient time for him to call me back, but I wasn't given the chance. I was hoping the close proximity and a great experience would mean we could refer more patients there in the future, and plan outings for our teenagers reintegrating back into the community. I went here as a new client for color and cut when I moved to the beacon hill area. I needed coverage of my grey hairs with a single process color. Francisco did my hair. After the cut and color was done, I left the hair salon and went home. Over the next day, I noticed that my gray hairs were still present and had not taken the color very well. This had never happened before at any other salon. I wasn't upset, but I called Francisco asking if they could correct this. His reaction and attitude is what upset me most. He scoffed at me and just seemed as if he had too much pride to fix my hair. Finally, he had me come in the next day. He seemed so irritated that I was not happy with my hair and even though I was trying to be very nice about the whole thing, he kept rolling his eyes and really just didn't seem to care. The results were OK. I will never go back here again. I don't know how he's made his business work there for this long. read more

I first went here about a year and a half ago. It was close to my apartment and for a prime location on Charles Street, it had decent prices. Paying $45 for a cut and blow-dry in the city is pretty good, all things considered. The first cut I had here was okay. Something a little different, but nothing too drastic, and I was fine with it. The studio was very busy and I had a couple different people work on cutting my hair, which made me wary because there's no need for two or three people to cut one person's hair. I went back a couple times after that and it was always very hectic inside. When I made an appointment with one person, I'd often get someone completely different doing my hair. So, minus points for that. When you schedule with a certain hairdresser, don't randomly switch it up. Each time I get my hair cut, I usually give a day or two before I rate it because sometimes I need to get used to the look. I had taken a break from Adela's about six months ago to try a different salon in Downtown Crossing. It was mostly because I wanted to experiment with color and they had good color reviews. I had intended to keep Adela's as a backup hair studio for those times when I wanted a quick trim. Except, this last time made me question that decision. I went in for a trim and asked for about an inch off. Something to sit right above my shoulder and that had some volume. I said I didn't want anything too short because it's not my style. The hairdresser took off FOUR AND A HALF INCHES. I could understand if she had accidentally taken off one and a half, maybe even two. But going from one to four and a half? Please, that's a big difference. Luckily, after I went home and styled it myself, the cut looked fine. But the experience did make me question whether I want to continue going there on a constant basis. I might keep them as a back-up. read more

There are definite perks to this place- if you are looking for a less expensive hair cut that comes out well, then you might want to give it a try. But be warned the customer service is horrible and you need to block out a solid 4 hours for a foil and hair cut. Francesco is incredibly slow. He may leave to grab a coffee while doing your hair; your dog might jump up on your lap and make herself comfortable; it takes 2.5 hours to give you a full foil (when you only asked for a partial), the he will start to blow dry without cutting because he is running out of time; his whiny voice and comments makes the excuses all the more pitiful. During my cut today, I scheduled an appt early in the morning. Francesco was 15 minutes late, I told him I had to leave by 9:30 (a full two hours for a partial foil!) at 9:00 he began shampooing and then began to argue with me when I asked if he was going to cut it saying that hair cannot be rushed so he doesn't have time. When I insisted he give me a cut (since I came in for a haircut!) he quickly trimmed two inches off without touching the rest of my hair! Then the power went out because they blew a fuse by running too many electronics at once. They rigged a blowdryer for me while everyone sat and watched, then he charged me for a full foil and haircut though I had only asked for a partial and he didn't give a quality haricut. So not only was I late for work, I was overcharged, and I had a hack job cut. I will never return. The low price is not worth is not worth the unprofessionalism, the unreliability and the overall frustration. read more

Great place! My husband and I moved to Beacon Hill 6 months ago and wanted to find a new hair salon to go to. He went first and said I should definitely try it out too. Easy location on Charles Street, clean, nice decor and very pleasant staff. I did the highlights and haircut package with Rosanna. She is so nice and my hair looks and feels great! I've gotten a lot of compliments and it was the natural look I was looking for. However, she didn't tell me that she was doing an extra treatment that cost $80. I mean my hair feels great but I wish she would have asked first. I'm a grad student working as a waitress so an extra $80 is huge to me. I can't complain about my hair but that extra add on without communication is why I can't get it the full 5 stars. read more

I never thought I would find a hair salon in the city that I loved as much as my place in the burbs, bu this is it! Even though it's located on ritzy Charles Street, it's unpretentious, they don't try to sell you a bunch of products, and it's really inexpensive. The salon is small and cozy, but my stylist really knew what she was doing! My hair is thick and can be quite unmanageable and I don't get it cut as much as I should, but Rosanna didn't "hair shame" (ugh) me at all and got the job done! I left feeling ten pounds lighter, healthier, and very stylish! She listening to my vague instructions and offered her own advice.
