Masa is incredibly kind and polite. He isn't the kind of hairstylist who chats nonstop, but he's thoughtful, professional, and clearly takes pride in his work. Meanwhile, his wife was chatting with another client nearby, and the two of them were laughing together the whole time. It made the salon feel warm, relaxed, and genuinely welcoming. The first time I went, he asked if I had a photo of the haircut I wanted. I didn't. I know there are Japanese hairstyle websites out there, but as someone who isn't Japanese, I had no idea where to find the kind of reference photo he was talking about. Even so, he gave me a great haircut. The second visit was what really won me over. This time I described what I wanted instead of showing a photo, and Masa made it happen. Throughout the haircut, he checked in with me about the length of my bangs, how much layering I wanted, what he thought would suit my hair, and how much length we could comfortably remove from the back. I have chin-length, extremely straight hair, which is super low-maintenance but completely unforgiving of mistakes. If one side is even a little longer than the other, everyone can tell. Masa nailed it. I got so many compliments afterward. One friend even joked, "At least it's even this time!" which says a lot after my previous haircut elsewhere somehow ended up with one side noticeably longer than the other, and not in an intentional way. Yes, Senju Salon costs more than some places, but I've learned that paying less isn't a bargain if you spend the next two months looking in the mirror wishing your hair looked different. When I can, I'd rather pay a little more for a haircut that makes me happy every single day. I'll be recommending Senju Salon to anyone who asks. Finding a hairstylist you trust is surprisingly hard. Right before I was leaving for a work trip, one of the stylists made a mistake with my hair. I was traveling the very next day, so I called Pat hoping she might show even the slightest concern and find a way to squeeze me in for a quick emergency touch-up. Instead of trying to help fix a mistake made by HER salon, Pat somehow managed to turn the situation around on me and accuse ME--the paying customer--of being disrespectful. There was no meaningful attempt to find a solution, no concern that I was leaving for a work trip the following day, and seemingly zero appreciation for the fact that I had supported her business for YEARS. The conversation ultimately ended with Pat hanging up on me. That tells you everything you need to know about how this business treats customers when something actually goes wrong. It's easy to take someone's money when everything is going smoothly. The true measure of a business is how it responds when it makes a mistake. In my experience, Pat's response was to become defensive, blame the customer, offer no meaningful solution, and hang up the phone. After years of giving this salon my business, I discovered exactly how little my loyalty was worth to them. If this is how a long-time customer is treated over a problem the salon itself created, imagine how you'll be treated when you have an issue. There are plenty of salons that actually value their customers and understand what customer service means. Spend your money at one of them. I certainly wish I had. Marguerite did an awesome job listening to what I wanted, looking at a photo of a previous cut, and carefully trimming my hair to the desired length. I ended getting about 5 inches cut off and instead of cutting it all off at once, she cut it once and then asked me if it was the right length or if I wanted it shorter. I was early and the stylist was late. She told me I didn't need a full foil, so we did a partial foil instead. Unfortunately it didn't come out well. First, the whole foiled section is much lighter than the back/bottom portion of my hair (so really I did need a full foil and should've pushed back on that?). I have never had such a stark contrast between the foiled and unfoiled portions... it looks pretty bad when my hair is up, and as a mom, that is basically all the time. Second, some of the highlights themselves are uneven, being super bright (almost white) closest to my roots in a few spots. Never had this happen before, either. I tried to schedule a correction, but they said I would have to pay to get the bottom foiled as that wouldn't count as a correction. Fair enough per the technical definition... but my hair just doesn't look good overall and that would be the only clear fix from my perspective, since you can't darken bleached hair. Oh well. That was a huge expense. I definitely will not return. Haircut was fine! Though they did also blow it out some after I specifically said I didn't want it (for my schedule and for sensory reasons).

Patty spent a lot of time listening to products that I have used in the past and we talked about the color and cut before she got started. As a first time client, I felt very welcomed and was extremely pleased with the outcome. I had a huge white streak, grey roots, and a reddish-brown faded mop and I left with all of my hair the same color. I really liked that this salon didn't push products or make me feel pressured to buy anything that I didn't need.
