I must say I had a very unusual morning at this ADEQ Auto Emissions testing facility. My sister's car was due for its emissions test. As most of you that live in this county, know that if you have an older car you have to take it to have it tested and pass the emissions test in order to get a new license plate tag. As I pulled into the driveway to enter the facility I have to pull a ticket out in order to get the gate to open so that I can get into their facility. Well this particular morning the machine wasn't going to cooperate. So I pulled out one third of the ticket and was unable to get the rest of the ticket out. Then the guy behind me was trying to help and guess what he pulled another third of the ticket. So he politely went over to get one of the guys to help out. So the employee comes over and helps me to get the rest of the ticket out. So the gate opens and I am left with three pieces of a ticket. So from here I drive up to the lane to get the car tested and hand over the ticket which was in three pieces. So after I restart the car and my sister and I walked over to the booth and about three minutes later the guy comes over to tell they can't test the car. So he tells us the car has to be driven more in order for us to test it. You will have to come back. So we left and took my sister back home. My wife told me why don't you drive it up and down the freeway and then take it back in. So guess what, I drove my sister's car up and down the freeway and took the car back. This time no problem with their ticket machine and once again I am in line waiting to have the car tested. So I pull up and after restarting the car I walked over to the booth and some older employee came over to tell me we noticed you came by earlier and I said I did. So he tells me if we can't test it you will have to come back in three days. I told him I understand. So I'm watching the guy that is running the test and noticed that a light came on when he did the first test. So next thing he is running the gas tank test, and right after tell me what the fee is. So I paid and told me to get back in the car and hands me the test form and says, it passed. All this happened on the same day so go figure. Just glad I listened to my wife. Of course the second time I didn't have my sister with me but she was glad I had gone back to get retested. This is my story of my adventure at the ADEQ Auto Emissions. read more

Got there early, not a whole lot of people in line. People passing through 4-5 fold on both sides of my lane. Looked like the employees were buddies with this guy or just thought the truck was cool. Regardless everyone else who got there before me left and MULTIPLE people who arrived after had already gone too. Probably spent 20 mins just waiting on this guy. I dont care if you know someone just pay better attention if someone's been waiting a long time especially when it's dead otherwise. read more

Emissions tests are required here in AZ but it seems like kind of a scam. This spot was easy to find and there was no wait. You have to get out of your car while they do the test, which kind of sucks on a hot day. Other than that no issues. They give you a paper after you pay that shows you passed the test and then you take that to the DMV. read more

As of 5/6/24, emissions testing costs a straight up $17. You need to do this once every 2 years for registration purposes but there must be other reasons to come here as they've got 4-5 lanes and there's always cars here. What I like about them is that they're efficient. There were only 3 lanes open when I was here, but they opened up a 4th because of more cars coming in. The whole process took me 15 minutes at noon time and the service was quite friendly. Great place to go if you need an emissions test. I took the advice of another Yelper and picked one of the lanes that was for cars that are from 1996 or newer, and that was a fantastic tip. Even though that line was longer than several of the other lines, it moved way faster than the shorter lines. And despite me being at least 8+ cars back, I was inspected and out of there in about 30 minutes. The guy who did my inspection (Aaron) was very communicative on what I needed to do so he could check out the car, and was quick and efficient with his inspection. So it's not a surprise, the cost for the test is $17 and payment must be cash or check. Next time I need another emissions test, I will definitely come back here. read more

This is a fine location. No complaints. You have to wait but you have to wait everywhere. Don't make the mistake I did and just pick the shortest line, if you have a car 1996 or newer go in that line, it moves way faster even though the other one is wayyy shorter. I probably wasted an extra 20 minutes waiting for old cars to get their testing done, but I couldn't switch once I'd made the choice. I hope I remember next time I have to go... Put aside at least 30 minutes though, every time I've been there's been a pretty significant line and it takes a while for them to do your test. Also-if you need to renew your tags for your car, you'll need to go here before the online system will allow you to order the new tags..hopefully you don't get pulled over before that!! Most organized and convenient location. Found this location to be much closer to my house. I never noticed it before since it is hidden but easy to find and centrally located. The process was simple for $17.00. I did not wait long and the staff moved very smoothly. They are not friendly at all. Not rude just not personable. They are all about business and super serious. You won't catch one person cracking a smile but you will get a smooth transaction. No hello, no welcome, just ordered around by drill Sergeants. I cringed when I was told my car was due for emissions testing before AZDOT would allow me to register it. My first thought was, "GREAT - How many hours is THAT going to take?!" I did a Yelp search and was pleased to see there was an inspection station not too far from me. I arrived around 10:30am and followed the arrows to the back of the building where I was directed into a short line of cars. It reminded me of a car wash! I reached my service technician about 15 minutes later and was asked to exit my vehicle so he could do the test. They supply a chair to sit in while you wait. The test took about 10 minutes tops. I was out of there by 11am with paperwork in hand! What a quick and easy process! read more

Everyone is complaining about emission testing, and not reviewing the place. I checked online. They said the wait time was 6 minutes. I waited 5. I got in and out quickly. The gentleman running the tests were kind and explained any questions I had. I don't like testing every two years either, but those are the rules. The signs aren't confusing. I kept going here only because it was the closest. I have been to a couple of others and discovered it was also the slowest. The last time after sitting for 15 minutes and nobody moved I left and went to another one near the Chinese Cultural center and got in and out. Also, one time the gas cap failed and everything else passed. So I went down the street and got a new gas cap and came right back to get tested again at the same station with the same technician. The gas cap passed but this time the car did not! By the way the original gas cap did make a seal. You could hear the air rushing in when it was opened. They told me a bad cap could make the car pass emissions. Bull!!! I spoke with several mechanics and found out this is impossible. I will not ever go back to this location ever again! read more

An hour of my life that I will never get back. I just wish I had more confidence that this effort was materially helping air quality. ADEQ's own sign, to paraphrase, says blame the Feds, not us. On the bright side. the fellow who helped me this visit was very nice, the sole reason for two stars rather than one. All those cars waiting in line, wasting gas, emitting fumes, killing the productivity of their drivers; well, it's difficult to understand. With all the policy wonks our there, it seems like someone could come up with a better solution. At least they take Visa, MasterCard and American Express. read more

After telling me what the problem was I proceeded to have the problem fixed... Came back to get my second emissions test ( that would be free after the first one was paid). Inspector number 2552... Did not get a name, tried to imply that I was tampering w my vehicle to do whatever to get it to pass? First of all are you a cop? I'm a paying customer! Whether I fail or not he had no right to accuse ME of tampering with my OWN vehicle? I'm over here just trying to fix my car and get it registered. My past experiences with emissions testing have been less-than-stellar so I was prepared for a long wait, cranky personnel, and crappy experience overall. I couldn't have been more wrong ! I got there with only 2 cars in the stalls being tested. Went on a Saturday before noon. I don't even think I've ever been thru a McDonald's drive thru that fast. They even had atleast 3 stalls open with people ready to do there job. And I passed without studying. I was very pleased. My most enjoyable visit to emissions. Auto Emissions has OBD express lanes now. This means that 1996 and newer vehicles have On Board Diagnostics that allow for faster screening. These lanes move a lot faster than the other lanes. First time ever my newer vehicle was Rejected due to the fact the DLC was loose so that the diagnostics could not be accessed by Emissions. I was pretty disturbed wondering how I was going to get this fixed--back to the dealer maybe? But no, a roadside mechanic on the road outside Emissions offered to fix it for 10 bucks. Took advantage of this offer, went back thru Emissions and passed!!! Cant help thinking the whole situation was a little strange. read more

I HATE THE EMISSION TESTING SYSTEM IN ARIZONA!! I dread having to go there every two years to get my car checked. They say "Thank you for helping clean the Environment" when you pass, but are you really helping? The older cars that need the tests the most are exempt from the testing. Now, today, I had to go my car tested. I somehow developed a flat while waiting 45 minutes in line, waiting for the test. And they were more than happy to point it out to me. Then they told me that they could not test the car with a flat. So I had to go get the flat fixed, wasting another hour there. Then it was back over for another 45 minute wait in the hot sun to get the car tested. When I pulled into the bay, they told me to turn the car off and go sit in that pleasant little booth while they tested the car. The guy looked at my gas cap, put a probe into the tank. Then he charged me the $27.50 charge. At that point, I thought he was going to tell me I failed because I had replaced the gas tank, and had an issue with the input pipe. Well, he simply handed me the form and told me I passed. WTF!?!? They never opened the engine, never started the car, never stuck a probe in the exhaust, nothing. just that little probe in the gas tank. WHY IN THE HELL COULDN'T THEY DO THAT IN THE FIRST PLACE AND SAVE ME HAVING TO WAIT ALL OVER AGAIN!?!?! Clean up the environment, hell. How can they tell if I am not polluting without doing some kind of test on the car itself, or at least look at the engine!? Then I have to go home and register the car online. The whole freaking Emission test system should be thrown out and the company that contracts the work shut down. It is nothing more than a sham. And why does Tucson get to pay half less? Why don't people in Flagstaff or Prescott have to participate in the program? They can come down the hill and pollute our air, and we have to pay for it. It is simply a money-making scheme for the state. It serves no purpose whatsoever, other than to drain our wallets. read more

It's emissions you gotta do it. But I had better service here than at most other institutions. I went in at 535pm on a Friday. There was just one car I front of me. It is now 542 and I'm on my way back home. The gentleman helping was courageous. He said "thank you ma'am it will be $17." Three or so minutes later "there you go ma'am have a wonderful day". This was hands down the best emissions testing experience I have ever had. I was in and out in 7 minutes (no exaggeration). They were extremely efficient and nice, as well. I was expecting another long wait with curt and rude workers like the other experiences I have had in the past at other places, but this was a very pleasant surprise. I've gone here for 3 years because it was close, and every time I have been they let me down. I went there today around 10 am 15 min wait, not to shabby then they ended up double charging my account. The guy helping said your card is declined several times, knowing I had 30 times the amount they charge me in there I was furious, finally they moved me to a new machine and sure enough it went through. Meanwhile the other machine already charged me. 35 min later and having a 5 day hold on 20 bucks sucks...no recommendation here. read more
