I've been dealing with issues on my Honda for months now. We originally took it to Honda, and they claimed it was just the spark plugs--so we replaced them. Unfortunately, the issue came back not long after. We then brought the car here based on the good reviews, hoping for a real solution. The mechanic said he inspected the car and couldn't find anything wrong except that I needed an oil change and "Honda-specific" spark plugs. He also cleared the dashboard settings, which we found extremely frustrating because that doesn't solve the issue--it just masks it temporarily. At that point, it was already done, and we couldn't reverse it. We went ahead and bought the spark plugs directly from Honda and had them replaced, even though the original ones weren't aftermarket or low quality. Surprise--same issue came back again. Whether it's "higher-end" spark plugs or not, my car continues to have the exact same problems. Honestly, I don't understand why that recommendation was made in the first place. We even spoke to friends who work at dealerships and Honda, and they confirmed that advice was completely inaccurate. The car might be running *slightly* better, but it's like comparing Pepsi to Coke--it's still the same drink. At the end of the day, nothing was truly resolved. At this point, it feels like this is just one of those issues no mechanic seems able to figure out. Disappointing experience all around. This guy is a total con artist and cheat. I took my car in for a general inspection, he charged me $95, and he did nothing besides a visual inspection and a computer check for error messages!!! Jiffy lube does that for free! I didn't get any report, no measurements done on breaks, I asked for an alignment that wasn't done and then he said "oh that's another $95"!!! As if paying him $95 for literally NOTHING wasn't good enough, he still wants more money for no work! He didn't even check the engine filter until I asked him to. This jerk actually made me wait 2 hrs for his 10 min visual inspection too!! These people do not do honest work, they're 100% sexist even tho this creep has a daughter, and I def recommend staying far away from this place. read more

On one of the hottest days this summer in Phoenix, the A/C of my car broke down was was blowing hot air while driving. I found Don at Japanese Automotive 10 minutes away and even though his shop was about to close soon for the day, Don took my car in. I thought I just needed freon but he insisted to allow him and his team examine my car despite a pile of cars in his shop. Most shop these days may have turned me away especially close to closing time. Bless him and his teams heart for finding the root cause, my A/C was one 1 fan down. He offered to keep my car overnight to examine it further and also check the issue with a pending oil leak that I had. Not only did he fix the 2nd issue, he proactively checked my suspension which I already knew needed an alignment and let me know it was important for him that my car was safe to be on on the road. He kept me informed every step of the way for approvals, and honestly, this random stop at a random auto shop was a blessing. Nothing he mentioned was what I didn't already know that needed to be fixed. Don saved me the hassle of multiple repairs from my normal mechanic who has been booked 2 weeks out. As a female driver who knows my own car very well, I can say when I got in my car today, the way it drove was completely different after Don repaired it. Halfway home, he made a courtesy call to make sure the ride felt good and reassured me of his shops work. Don is fair, professional, and is a man of character. My Subaru was having ac issues for years and a big mechanic franchise said that they found nothing wrong with it. I learned about Japanese Auto and took the car there. Don and his team did a thorough diagnosis and found that one of the two fans wasn't working and needed a wiring harness. It improved but then I still had troubles in hot weather. Then I took it back and it was found that the compressor was overheating. After that my Subaru Impreza was brought back to life and I drive it daily in the 100 plus Phoenix heat. It's not an amazing ac but it works well enough to drive all day now. Whereas others just charged and passed the car along, Don and his team actually diagnosed the issue and fixed the root cause! We've taken other cars there now. For example, he fixed a longstanding issue in my mom's car. It used to need to be revved to start after filling gas but now you can start it no problem ! We also took a Mercedes and he fixed a leak into the exhaust manifold. read more

I had gone to mine regular repair shop on 7th Ave with my car making an unusual noise. They told me I needed new motor mounts, but said I could wait a few months sto complete the work. As I left the car was shaking so badly I was afraid to drive, and their estimate was very high. I found Don at Japanese Automotive through a review from a satified customer. Best find ever. He quickly found atht one of the mounts was now missing and his cost to replace them all was $400 less than the previous place. I now use him exclusively. He never tries to upsell but lets me know when something else needs attention. This is a no-fuss auto place! It's my 2nd time here and I simply called about my Honda issues and both time I got sane day service. The owner, Don, tells me to just bring it by. I paid $50 to fix my connector to my right headlight (my lights were fine). Seems good to me, as he is no fuss, doesn't sell you more than you need. The interior/exterior is no fuss too. I've only gotten an oil change and connector fixed here but I'm happy with it. When I inquired about the connector, he had me come to my car and showed me the damage. It was nice to have that confirmation and know that I wasn't getting scammed but rather good customer service! 6 years ago these guys fixed a rattle previous mechanics couldn't. So when I bought another car knowing suspension work was necessary I came back. The found some issues and sent me to Allstate Transmission to have a tranny leak fixed. It took ten days to get the appointment, and today I rode a Metro bus for 3 1/2 hours, and waiting another 1 1/4 hours for the bus, home and back, only to learn that Japanese Auto sent me with my manual transmission to a firm that doesn't work on manual transmissions. Allstate were very apologetic, pointing out that they have told Japanese Auto multiple times that they don't do manuals. Love this place! Don is literally the most friendly car man I've ever interacted with! His warming and welcoming smile says it all- he doesn't cheat you and you know you're getting the best price here, fabulous work guaranteed. This shop is super honest, doesn't push you into getting stuff that you don't need (unlike many Toyota shops..), and if it even means anything, Don is a catholic man and super involved with the church (I only know this because he goes to the same Vietnamese church that I go to and I ran into him there once). So I trust this place with my little baby car that I drove across the country with!! His shop is pretty open and friendly too. There are some really funny signs hung up around the shop, so if you're waiting, take a look around. It made me chuckle for sure hah. I love that they're super accommodating too. I turned to Japanese automotive to fix my air conditioning in my car that just recently went out. At first I was expecting them to find the problem quick and for the bill to not that that high. Turns out not only they couldn't find the problem with it but when I get it back it would only blow hot air instead of cold. Not only that they charged me 400$ on top of the 95$ fee just for my air conditioning to go out 3 days after I got it back from them. Would NOT recommend this automotive repair shop. read more

Awesome auto shop! Their quality of work is unmatched and the owner Don is honest and straightforward. They are a great local shop in my neighborhood and I will be taking my Mazda there going forward. They also work on domestic (American) cars too. I went in to get brake pads replaced and their opinion on replacing rotors. Don took the time to review the car and suggested to machine smooth the old rotors over replacing. Most shops don't offer this and it saved me time and a lot of money. I also had them replace my serpentine belts (which wasn't scheduled) and they were accommodating. read more

They broke my car while I had it in there to be fixed. Then wanted to charge me more money(nearly 1000$)! Absolutely not going back.

My car was purchased used and had no recent record of maintenance services, other than a recent oil change sticker attached on the windshield. I took it over to Don for checkup and advice on any possible repair. The guy is an amazing experienced and honest mechanic! He did a 360 diagnosis under the hood and below the car from bumper to bumper and found several problems with it. I was told to do fluid replacements and wheel alignment, along with some cosmetic redos, to get it good as new again. With all the work done, I'd say I was charged about half of a dealer price. Prices are extremely reasonable. I highly recommend this auto repair shop to anyone! read more
