The trailhead is to the right of the lake, just past the Adirondak Loj. There are two paths up, one is easier but longer and the other is shorter but much steeper. The long trail is recommended for families and inexperienced hikers. I have been camping at Heart Lake for nearly 10 years and have done this hike many times. It may not be a high peak, but it offers a view of many of them from the top. It is gorgeous on both a sunny and cloudy day. I highly recommend this hike to anyone who wants to see the high peaks but isn't quite ready for a peak hike. This mountain also has an interesting history inspired by a tragic love story and is worth reading about. I recently completed the 2012 Vermont City Marathon. I chose this marathon because it was basically…read morethe biggest marathon in Vermont. Race morning was on 05/27/2012, during Memorial Day weekend. The travel to get to Burlington, VT was not an easy road for me, physically and financially. But once I got got into Burlington and step foot with the other marathoners on race morning, everything seemed to be better and the world seemed to be a smaller place. The Vermont City Marathon 2012 was my 40th lifetime marathon and 3rd of the year. Yikes! I've done alot! First time in Vermont and probably not the last, as I saw some awesome houses along the course and it makes me want to move out to Burlington someday when I am old and grey. In any event, the marathon is the premiere event in Vermont. There are other races held in Vermont, but VCM is the big one - like how New York City marathon and Chicago marathons dominate in their respective states. It is interesting to see that this race venue does not have a half marathon, since the half marathon is like a big draw for so many people - mostly due to its shorter distance. But for me, it has to be the full marathon, since its worth the $$ on airline tickets and hotel rooms to do it. The marathon expo was large enough, but small enough. There was an extensive expo separate from the packet pick up, which is similar to the Walt Disney World Marathon. I got to meet up with Laura Sklaudinski, the first youngest 50 State Marathoner from NY. That was bad ass! She inspires me to chase my dreams and to chase states. The marathon starts at 8:03am, with the wheeled athletes going first at 8am. The course itself looped around downtown Burlington, then on the Hwy 127 for a long out and back. Then onto a bike path with great views of Lake Champlain. From miles 13-19, we weaved in and around the residential areas of the North End, passing by Burlington High School. The rest of the course was on paved bike path from miles 20 to the finish. There was of families who were on bikes that day and wished me good luck as I streamed through. Though that was pretty awesome. Although the final push to the finish line was a long one, I felt that the bike path was just insanely long. Then again, 26.2 miles isn't a joke. It was a great venue to participate in and hope to come back to Vermont again to do it all over again. I heard that the men's winner clocked in at 2:30:xx, while the women's winner came in at 2:43:xx. That's crazy fast and wish I could do that some day. I probably would need to quit my day job and train hardcore full time. But I would probably miss the traveling. Give and take, I guess. Run more! A+

This review is from a spectator's point of view. I would love to hear how participants enjoyed it…read morebut, alas, I only watched. First of all, this is one of the premier events in Burlington. Burlington's population hovers somewhere just shy of 40,000 people. This year over 8,000 runners took the streets of the Queen City and it is truly an amazing spectacle. The Marathon begins at 8:05 a.m. with participants in wheelchairs followed by the throng of runners. I think the corner of Willard St. and Pearl St. is the best place to catch the start of the run. It's impressive to see the never-ending wave of runners come up Pearl St. with the Adirondacks in the distance. Everyone is still in high spirits as their less than 1/2 mile into the event. Finally, there's Future Man. Future Man is a perennial favorite and must see. His outfit (I use the term loosely) is a black danskin leotard, a yellow construction helmet with red flashing light and, of course, combat boots. Future Man entertains runners and observers by playing the accordion. This is quite amusing and very fun even though he only seems to know about 2 and a half songs. After watching the runners go by, head down to Church Street. While this is a walk of probably .3 miles for you, the runners will be coming up Church St. about 3 miles into their run. Church St. is the best place to watch people any time of year and the marathon is no exception. The streets are packed and lots of cheering. Lines will be long at almost all restaurants so bring something to eat or be prepared to wait. After that there are several good options. The beltline is completely closed to cars and some like to ride their bike on that part of the route. The end of the marathon at Waterfront Park is also worth catching. From a particpant's point of view it's great entertainment. I'd love to hear from the runners on how it is be a particpant.

The cleaning lady shoved a phone in my face saying she doesn't speak English Andrew said the restaurant was open for breakfast, that was a lie they d don't open until 4 ,the first night we stayed there we stopped at the restaurant and said how they are going to fire Andrew because they wS soo many complaints. Then we went to eat there around 5:30 the last night they said they couldn't seat us because they were booked which was another lie the waitress said there was no help there it was 75 % empty what the he'll Please spend more money and stay somewhere else please just stay away!!!!!!!

Upon arrival, the heat was not on in our room (March - 30+/- degrees outside), it was 59 degrees…read moreinside. We turned up the thermostat and when we were back that evening, it was warm. We discovered by unplugging an alarm clock that was going off around 2:00 a.m. that the light in that plug had electrical tape all around the end of it with wires poking out. We unplugged that too. We woke to 62 degrees in the room although the thermostat was set on 69 degrees. The outlet on that wall wouldn't work in the morning, although it worked the night before. We had to move the coffee pot to the opposite wall to use it. We packed up and left around 9:00 and our room was already unlocked (it was a code to get into the room). I left a note on the desk but haven't heard back from the motel.

This was a great and challenging hike up Mt. Marcy, completed on a clear and warm October weekend…read moreday (low 40, high 76). We arrived at 6:00 AM, which was unfortunately just a few minutes too late to secure a spot at the trailhead parking lot. This meant adding an extra mile or so to our roundtrip due to having to park down the road. By the time we finished in the early afternoon, the line of parked cars seemed to stretch for a couple of miles. We began the hike in the dark with headlamps at 6:30 AM and kept a steady pace with minimal and very brief breaks. Our roundtrip hiking time was 6 hours, not including time spent enjoying the summit. Depending on fitness level and break frequency, hikers should generally plan for a total time of 7-9 hours. Conditions at the summit were perfect: clear with a light wind, and the views were absolutely amazing.

Overlooking Lake Placid is one of the tallest peaks in New York State, and one of its most prominent ski destinations - Whiteface Mountain. One of the main hubs of activity, no matter the season. It is located in the NY town of Wilmington, about 13 miles outside of Lake Placid. Standing proudly at 4,867 feet, this natural wonder is the 5th tallest mountain in the whole New York state. With a bevy of trails, this mountain is a prime spot for riding, skiing, and hiking. Even better, the views from this mountain are to die for. There are multiple ways to view and reach the top of Whiteface Mountain, including the Veteran's Memorial Highway, Gondola rides, and hiking. The mountain has 90 trails, with more than 22 miles of skiing and riding. The longest run is the Wilmington Trail, which is just over two miles. Fact: It was home to the six alpine ski events in the 1980 Winter Olympics. The summit of Whiteface offers 360-degree views that span as far as Canada and Vermont on clear days. if you are taking Veteran's Memorial Highway - It's $20 /PP fee. This scenic drive winds its way up the mountain giving way to some spectacular photo ops along the way - including a castle. From the castle, it's a 20-minute hike to the peak of Whiteface Mountain, We took the highway, it's a very easy drive plus we wanted to visit the Summit Weather Observatory, and there is a lift to reach to summit, where you have seen the lift to reach the summit? I have never seen a lift installed in the mountain like this. Lift is for 5 persons only at a time, and takes almost 30-40 secs to reach the top. it is equal to a 24-floor building. Also, the gondola is more fun in winter, in summer it will take you to just an overlook spot, I would suggest coming via highway. In fact, from the summit, you can see this gondola point, it's higher than the gondola point. (just make sure while coming down, use low gears- typical suggestion- but it's important) Parking: ample parking spot, one staff will stop you, provides useful info and tell you how/where to park. One food truck was there serving typical fries, sandwiches, and burgers. Restroom & Git shop - is there too...!!
