The boats are junk and the owners are very shady…read more I reserved a pontoon boat for two days and I was specifically assured that I would not be expected to take the boat out or pay in the event of rain. Day 1 was okay weather-wise, however the boat itself was dirty, all of the seats were ripped and the carpet became soaked through from the underside. I brought it back in because there was something clearly wrong with the way the motor was sputtering but I was told it sounded normal. Day 2 it rained all day and when I called to discuss this with someone, I was told then owners would need to call me back. I called back 3 more times throughout the day and never heard back from the owners, and of course they charged me full price for the rainy day. I eventually got my money back after going through a dispute process with my cc company. It was clear that the employee that helped me was frustrated and knew he worked for shady owners. I know there are not a lot of options on Lake Placid, but do yourself a favor and find a boat somewhere else. If it were possible to give zero stars, I would.

Large parking lot, friendly staff; you'll be on the trails in no time. In previous years, I have rented boots, skis, and poles from them at a reasonable cost. Staff took their time to make sure everything was comfortable and in good order. Equipment was in excellent shape and perfect for my needs! When I was new to cross country, this location was a great place to try things out and get the hang of things. Some small ups and downs through most of the trails. Generally no skate-skiing here. On my most recent visit, the conditions were somewhat icy and several of the more moderate/difficult trails were closed off. Not to worry as there is plenty of other space to traverse. Very picaresque and cozy. You are nestled into pines heavy with snow. Even with a number of other people out in the woods, you get plenty of alone time as well. A decent option at an affordable price.

Overlooking Lake Placid is one of the tallest peaks in New York State, and one of its most prominent ski destinations - Whiteface Mountain. One of the main hubs of activity, no matter the season. It is located in the NY town of Wilmington, about 13 miles outside of Lake Placid. Standing proudly at 4,867 feet, this natural wonder is the 5th tallest mountain in the whole New York state. With a bevy of trails, this mountain is a prime spot for riding, skiing, and hiking. Even better, the views from this mountain are to die for. There are multiple ways to view and reach the top of Whiteface Mountain, including the Veteran's Memorial Highway, Gondola rides, and hiking. The mountain has 90 trails, with more than 22 miles of skiing and riding. The longest run is the Wilmington Trail, which is just over two miles. Fact: It was home to the six alpine ski events in the 1980 Winter Olympics. The summit of Whiteface offers 360-degree views that span as far as Canada and Vermont on clear days. if you are taking Veteran's Memorial Highway - It's $20 /PP fee. This scenic drive winds its way up the mountain giving way to some spectacular photo ops along the way - including a castle. From the castle, it's a 20-minute hike to the peak of Whiteface Mountain, We took the highway, it's a very easy drive plus we wanted to visit the Summit Weather Observatory, and there is a lift to reach to summit, where you have seen the lift to reach the summit? I have never seen a lift installed in the mountain like this. Lift is for 5 persons only at a time, and takes almost 30-40 secs to reach the top. it is equal to a 24-floor building. Also, the gondola is more fun in winter, in summer it will take you to just an overlook spot, I would suggest coming via highway. In fact, from the summit, you can see this gondola point, it's higher than the gondola point. (just make sure while coming down, use low gears- typical suggestion- but it's important) Parking: ample parking spot, one staff will stop you, provides useful info and tell you how/where to park. One food truck was there serving typical fries, sandwiches, and burgers. Restroom & Git shop - is there too...!!

It turned out to be the perfect basecamp for both adventure and recovery. Tucked right on the shores of Lower Saranac Lake, this spot combines rustic Adirondack charm with a sense of comfort and calm that hits just right after 12 hours on the trail. Location, Location... Lakefront You can't beat the setting. The resort sits on 28 peaceful acres along the lake, with stunning views and direct access to the water. We stayed in the Saranac Suite, perched above the on-site Sunset Bistro (more on that later). With three bedrooms, two bathrooms, and five beds, it was a perfect fit for our group of five. The suite includes a full kitchen with a Viking range -- which we mostly used for coffee, post-hike wine, and storing trail snacks. Despite being above the restaurant, the suite was incredibly quiet. We never heard a thing. Mornings and evenings were spent in Adirondack chairs overlooking the lake, unwinding, laughing, and soaking in the view. It's the kind of peaceful, communal space that makes you want to linger. A Rustic Feel -- and That's a Good Thing Let's set expectations: This isn't the Four Seasons or some polished modern lodge -- and that's not the goal. Ampersand Bay delivers a comfortable, clean, and authentic Adirondack experience. Rented a boat from them for the day - second time in two years…read more When we got out in the boat, we discovered it had no auxiliary power- radio didn't work, horn didn't work, could not chage phone, etc. We texted the owner to let them know. He apologized and state he would give us back a $100. Never got the money back. Followed up a couple of times. Was told that the electrical system worked fine and that it was operator error but he would send me a check for $100. Never did Would never rent from them again.
