If you were at a rock concert and on the main floor, you better hope that people don't stand the whole shell because you won't be able to see squat. I was sitting towards the back of the venue recently for the Goo Goo Dolls and people stood the whole show. They weren't even dancing. They were just standing there. Standing. Staring at their phones, and standing. Sit the hell down unless you're going to dance. My back hurt from standing so I left before the show was over. Miserable experience. It might be a great place to see a show if people would sit down and quit playing with their freaking phones. Three star venue. Zero star Iowa audience. Two star review.

Love this place. Excellent acoustics. Add to that dinner and parking across the street and you have a wonderful experience.

Great venue with super cheap and close parking and a great staff!…read more This was my first experience at this venue and I was not disappointed. The line moved quickly getting people inside shortly after doors opened. They are kind and helpful to those of us with disabilities rewiring ADA options. We choose to sit in the back at this venue had sloped seating. We were able to have a great view of the entire show and sit comfortably. The event we went to was Social Distortion with opening act Plague Vendor. Both bands put on a great show. I have seen Social D venue, but this setlist was way different than the lady time, which was cool. The lines moved quick to get beverages and snacks. The only reason I didn't give this venue 5 stars was because the only food they had was small bags of chips. Their website indicated a much bigger venue with dinner-like options. We purposely didn't eat beforehand thinking we'd be getting food at the show. By far the only downside. The staff let's people go iut front to smoke and come back in without having to buy another ticket, provided you had your hand stamped. The hallways weren't super wide, so leaving was a little busy, but not the artist I've experienced. Bathrooms were available nearby the exits of the concert hall. A great mid-sized venue to see someone without being so far away. Though, I think next time I will go with balcony seats. Seems like the view would be great. Thanks to the staff and everyone for being so nice. Definitely recommend this spot.

This is a beautiful venue to see any band. I do have one MAJOR complaint…read more Why are DSL users banned from bringing cameras to the shows?? It's OK to take in cell phones and some of them take just as good of shots as my camera. I feel I'm being discriminated against. I think someone really needs to rethink this policy of "no professional" cameras allowed. Meaning any camera with a detachable lens. I'm crying FOUL!

The ranger in the building helped explain what was going on below in the lock. There are many different displays that describe the lock system from St. Paul to St. Louis. Very educational. Good views of the river. The one downside of visiting this place is that you need to get a visitor pass since this is on the Rock Island Armory military base. You need a valid US ID and have to fill out a form, etc. Once the form is completed it took almost five minutes per person to go through the process and get an ID issued. If there are more than a couple of people in line you could easily be waiting 30 minutes. This pass does let you go to the Military Museum and access other recreational facilities on the base. You've been warned!

Your experience will depend on whether something is going through the lock. We arrived as a tug and some barges were finishing their transition to go down river. You get to see the lock filling and also get to see the bridge swing around to let the barges through. There was a ranger (?) there and he was very enthusiastic and knowledgeable. There is real very little else to see if nothing is happening at the lock. As you drive around the arsenal (and I do recommend that you drive around some) and see something approaching the lock, get over there!

There were only a few cars…read morein the plaza-level parking lot off of West 2nd the day we spontaneously decided to visit (this lot btw is the best place to park). As soon as we walked in, we were greeted by a friendly and knowledgeable museum associate--she informed us of the layout of the museum, gave us a brief description of the exhibits, and helpfully recommended that we start at the fourth floor and work our way down. It was probably the most organized and efficient welcoming presentation I've ever heard! It was also a bonus that afternoon we showed up on a "free visits" day. I think normally they charge about $14 per person. So, we took what looked to be an upscale freight elevator to the fourth floor and started with the elegant Raven and the Box of Daylight special exhibit by Preston Singletary...this is a very cool multi-sensory work that presents the Native American folktale of how the raven brought daylight (and stars and the moon) to the earth. The interplay of sound and light with the beautiful glass sculptures were really calming and wonderful. The exhibit will be there until August 2026. On our way down to the third floor we saw some mysterious double doors by the elevator that looked like an exit but had a small label nearby, "Wintetgatden exhibit." Good thing we went through the doors because there was an adorable bronze sculpture right on the other side, as well as an expansive view of the Mississippi from a wall of glass windows...a light-filled staircase winds down towards the third floor, and I believe this is the floor with a viewing area set up with easels for drawing! This was a unique and fun part of the museum visit, and there are chairs nearby for relaxing if you don't want to draw... The second floor houses the museum's main collections, including a large collection of Haitian art; we were also able to view a traveling exhibit from D.C. We enjoyed seeing a nice mix of portraiture, landscapes, still life and abstract paintings, sculptures, video art, furniture, and fiber arts... The first floor has the cafe (not open when we were there) and the gift shop... which was very fun to browse. I picked up a book, several stickers and packets of novelty tea for only $1each. This is definitely a fun, lovely, and enriching place to visit if in the Quad Cities area!

I asked and they said base floor is parking to boost it above flood stage. There is a lot of off display storage with other admin and mechanical space. It's still a very nice museum and recommend it. The hidden gem is take the back stairway down from the upper floors. There is a nice sitting and art space overlooking the Mississippi. I do wish the museum store had more to offer and there was more comfortable seating off the bar, which also overlooks the Mississippi to enjoy a beverage or snack while enjoying the view.
