Our room (#1) was spacious, but had a very distinct musty smell that did not dissipate despite our keeping windows open with the overhead fan running and then trying the AC with windows closed. Our friends who stayed in a lake view room did not have the mustiness problem. p.s. I'd also suggest updating the towels and pillows. But, the sheets were really soft!

The owner does a very good job of keeping it up. When I went to check in, nobody was at the office, but there was a phone number listed. I called, and unfortunately, the man that ran, the place was taking care of some personal business. All of the rooms are on a combination door lock so he gave me the combination, and told me we would just take care of the paperwork in the morning. I went over to check in in the morning, and my first night was so good, I decided to stay for another three nights. My first night was booked through hotels.com, but the owner told me that I could book with him directly for the remaining three nights, and he would give me a discount. It saved me some dollars. I appreciate it. He was friendly, and helpful. Again, nothing fancy on the room. The room and the bathroom were spotless The TV got a good picture with cable, there was a coffee pot, a fridge, and a microwave, and the bed was very comfortable. The shower had plenty of room, and I'm a big guy. The only thing is, there is no shower mat, so you have to be careful. There were plenty of towels.. The Wi-Fi worked great, with enough speed to easily stream video one evening the Wi-Fi did go down, I contacted the gentleman, and he said he would take care of it. He actually came over to my room, to let me know had been fixed, when he could've just called or texted me. That was excellent service. The price was very reasonable, compared to some of the other places in town. Again, you're not getting anything fancy, you are getting a very simple comfortable place. Watkins Glen is right in the middle of the finger Lakes region. There are plenty things to do, lots of good shopping, and great restaurants. It's rare that I'm dazzled by a hotel or feel that it's worth the money (they're all stupid…read moreexpensive these days), but Harbor Hotel was a wonderful experience I'd recommend to anyone. Don't get me wrong, it's expensive. But for once I felt like I'd gotten my money's worth! Everything everywhere was meticulously clean and well-kept. Our room was spacious and bright, with a private balcony and chairs, a couch and coffee table, and a full table that allowed us to take comfortable advantage of the room service breakfast. Potpourri sachets in the closet, free water bottles in the lobby, free coffee stations on each floor, and chocolates every night on the pillows--details, people! We also enjoyed the indoor pool and hot tub, and of course the gorgeous patio and firepits overlooking the lake which was 80% of the reason we booked here. All of the staff we encountered, from the front desk to the housekeepers, were very friendly. I did think it was a little strange that the fitness center was in a whole different building and you have to walk across the parking lot to get to it, but hey--you get your steps in. The hotel is also very centrally located. On the water, of course, but next door to Seneca Harbor Station from which you can book lake cruises. It's also less than a mile from the entrance to Watkins Glen State Park and hiking trails and only a 5-10 minute walk from most restaurants. We did most things on foot. When you do get back in the car, there are multiple wineries within a 15-minute drive. The only problem the whole visit was the hotel internet, which was terrible every day. You could make do in the daytime, but at night, when everyone was back in their rooms after the day out exploring, it was slow to the point of unusable, and I ended up turning on my data hotspot to even be able to check my email. I would not suggest bringing time-sensitive work with you, and you should not expect to be able to stream videos on your devices. Just disconnect, you'll be less frustrated. There is an onsite restaurant and bar, and while it's nothing mind-blowing, it is a nice option to have (and is one of the few "higher end" type places in Watkins Glen). Menu includes a few of the standard local wines, which was nice!

Writers! I spent the…read morelast several day at La Tourelle Inn in Ithaca doing a self imposed writers retreat. I've done this before, but THIS place is everything I've never found before. The pic below is just one of at least 12 places where you can sit in total silence and write. There were gazebos, benches, nooks inside, a tent covered breakfast area outside and that's before you get to the fireside camps where other people were "glamping" but hotel people can go sit by one of 12 fire pits! I also went out there during the day and took a nap on a leather couch in an outside tent covered living room in TOTAL SILENCE. Well not total silence. There were birds, frogs, and crickets. There were people if you wanted people (and I met two dogs!) but what struck me was the absolutely silence and solitude I could find. I desperately needed it, and I've NEVER found it like this before. If you go and don't want a balcony, room 104 is the quietest. There's a double door (room and hallway) so any children screaming in delight or adults laughing in the common area is blocked twice. Oh! And there's a trail head to buttermilk falls on property and it's right across from a Buddhist temple which just adds to the ambience. Plus the most delicious food and cider and lake views are found in Ithaca. If you need this, GO.

There was a half bath in the room and a full bathroom across the hall. I absolutely loved the breakfast they provided on the weekends. Lou & Vickie cooked it themselves! The first time we had German eggs - mmmm cheesy eggs - I finished my entire plate because it was so yummyyy! The second night we had peach french toast, which was also very good! There were also homemade biscuits, scones, parfait yogurt with fresh fruits. All the food was nicely presented and delicious! They also serve coffee at 6:30AM for those early birds! This is also a great location if you're visiting Watkins Glen State Park. We were able to walk to the park and save $ on parking. Overall, I had such a pleasant time here at Lake Valley Legends! Saturday breakfast: Fresh fruit (strawberries, raspberries, blueberries) with vanilla yogurt and granola to start Coffee, orange juice, water, tea, milk German eggs was the main course - i would compare it to a cheesy frittata Then we were on our way to Letchworth State Park, we came back late afternoon and showered and rested. It felt like we had the place to ourselves. Not once did we feel uncomfortable. Sunday breakfast: Ambrosia - homemade and delicious! Coffee, orange juice, cranberry juice, water, tea, milk Peach french toast - so decadant and sweet. It was more like a baked bread pudding. This was the best! Notes: This place is within walking distance to Watkins Glen State Park if you are up for the walk. It's about a 15 minute walk or 0.8 miles. Once you get to the top of Watkins Glen you can even walk home (all down hill on the walk home since the park is all uphill walking!) You can get there early and not pay for parking too (before 8 am) A great weekend at a wonderful B&B!

They are wonderful, warm people who make staying in their B&B so relaxing and comfortable. The grounds are spectacular and so is Mary's cooking. Every day we had a delicious breakfast and a "bottomless" cookie jar with home baked treats. We like sitting with the other guests in the morning, getting to know other people from near and far. We've gotten great tips about interesting places to visit from the other guests as well as Mary and Peter. If we are really lucky, we will be able to get back there in the fall!
